N/pantla at Night Air: Shock Waves
2021
Tumblr media
N/pantla, Paula Montecinos and Pedro Matias, Night Air: Shock Waves, OT301, Amsterdam, NL
Sonic weapons like the Long-Range Acoustic Device (LRAD), ‘roof knocking’, or ‘music torture’ are frequently used as part of the arsenal of state violence. Elena Cohen’s work as an attorney and professor specialised in repressive police practices offers case studies of how these can be deployed in protest, detention, and warfare, causing a range of harm from disorientation and psychological distress to permanent internal damage. As María Edurne Zuazu writes in Loud but Non-lethal: Acoustic Stagings and State-Sponsored Violence, such instruments rely on high-intensity and focused sound to suppress individuals by impairing their auditory systems. Yann Leguay’s performative lecture speaks to the dematerialisation of sound and the evolving effects of interfaces, featuring an electrical arc produced by a plasma speaker so powerful that it emanates magnetic disturbance. The two films by Aura Satz approach sonic obedience and disobedience through the trope of the siren and investigate ballistics as a field of study in relation to the role of women in early computing. If the energy of sound can be harnessed to cause harm and stifle dissent, it also constitutes a creative field for confrontation and resistance.

Paula Montecinos and Pedro Matias’ installation N/pantla presents a corporeal debordering of fractured sound – addressing how intimately tied gendered and racialised capitalism are to our communal sense of self-preservation, while performances and DJ sets by local artists whiterose and Noise Diva invite us to embody dissonance and noisemaking on the dancefloor.

[Premiere] Chromatic CGI Artwork Interrogates Empathy in the Digital Age
Images courtesy of FELT Zine
Every Saturday, The Creators Project premieres a new issue from net art platform and artist collective, FELT Zine.
In this week’s 16th issue of FELT Zine, Nicole Ruggiero, a Brooklyn based net artist known for her psychedelic 3D compositions, unloaded a new series of still lives that consider the way in which technology has impacted the way we communicate and share information. Ruggiero’s vibrant neon backgrounds are riddled with mobile phones, keyboards, and androgynous 3D mannequins that become increasingly intertwined with the electronics surrounding them.
The internet’s wealth of knowledge has never been more retrievable and accessible. Ruggiero sees the internet as a vehicle to better understand the experiences of others, and thusly, the human condition as a whole. “By taking in others’ perspectives through communication, as well as our own perspectives as they change, we can more easily adjust ourselves to align with how we want to exist and behave. [...] By being able to communicate visual and verbal ideas so easily, we are better suited to gain fresh outlooks on life and, in the end, form more empathy for people around the world,” Ruggiero tells The Creators Project.
No issue of FELT looks the same. With each release, FELT’s editors work with a new artist to create a unique online space to display their work. This week’s exclusive interactive feature is a "click to enlarge" function that lets the viewer toggle the dimensions of each composition. Also unique to this issue is Ruggerio’s custom backdrop made up of neon signs that read, "A New View." Check out some more works from the issue below:
New York City based music producer and DJ Sharon Alexandra, better known as Lethal Trip, made an exclusive mix for this week’s premiere on The Creators Project. Check out the mix below:

since i consider you a wise blog in the nu metal side of tumblr, i figured i'd ask you for help.
are there any nu metal ships you like or recommend? i've been reading so much davisdurst fics on a03 cuz there's a lot of it there, but I wanted to branch out but not sure where to start. i like korn, limp bizkit, slipknot, linkin park, crazy town, but i'm also down to check out ships of other nu metal bands and crossovers too. if shipping is not ur thing, i get it. disregard this message. just figured i'd ask since i'm not sure what other good ships are out there to check out.
Oh I adore this ask, thank you for taking the time to write it. I’ve been meaning to get back into nu metal shipping, it’s just so fucking fun.
Davisdurst is pretty much my otp but I also like any ship with Fred (names that come to mind are Head from Korn and Wes from LB) and especially any ship with JD or JDevil specifically (anyone in Korn but especially Fieldy and Munky and Chino from Deftones). Also within Limp Bizkit Sam x Wes is another very good ship with plenty of awesome fics courtesy of the fucking amazing @downtherabbitholewithlucy. They’re not super popular ships but I love the ship I call LB’s RhythmSection (John Otto x Sam Rivers) and DJ Squared (DJ Lethal and Sid from Slipknot, turntablists just understand each other like that). Had an amazing JD x Wes fic written for me once and it’s one of the best nu metal fics I’ve ever read, that ship has real potential. Oh and one time I got an ask on the confessions blog about shipping David Silveria and Shifty from Crazy Town and I’ve honestly thought about writing something for that because it sounds hilarious and could be hot as hell. I know there are some fics with guys from Linkin Park, Incubus, and Rage Against the Machine but I haven’t checked them out yet. Oh and lord in heaven, don’t get me started on the Slipknot ships. A polylover’s/multishipper’s/rarepairer’s heaven. Any of those are good but I like Clown x Sid, Jim x Corey, Paul x Anyone, Chris x Craig, and Joey x Anyone.
I totally would be down to get some shipping going with the guys from The Union Underground and Crazy Town and shit like that because they’re totally slept on shipping-wise and those are some good looking guys with writable personalities. Haven’t gotten around to it myself because…😅
Anyways, hope this helps anon! Happy shipping!
