This safer-at-home order has me diggin' deep into my archives, finding and post-processing gems my eyes couldn't quite process at the time the photo was captured. This was taken just two summers ago at a local laundry mat. I met a fellow photographer at this location who admired my work. We talked about partnering but honestly, I didn't think much of it. I've come across dozens of creatives and discussed collaboration in some form, but with no follow-up. About 6-7 months later, he and I were sharing a photography studio. I planned on sharing this photo several months ago. This entire shoot was supposed to be taken using a film camera but I was film illiterate that day and failed miserably. Not much of a noticeable difference, the blacks/shadows are emphasized more in the first photo compared to the second. I usually hate pictures when models are smiling and staring directly into the camera. They come off as being so blatantly choreographed and uncreative. There's always an exception to the rule but I will forever despise squatting and hair pulling/tugging in photos. You'll never get me to feel otherwise. I think the quarantine helped keep us stagnant or revealed the magnitude of how 'stuck' a lot of us are prior to it. I think a lot of us needed the time to do nothing as a way to self-assess and re-apply ourselves. I think a lot of us became depressed and unmotivated from losing our jobs to the possibility of losing a loved one. A lot of us dealt with the reality of losing a loved one. I think a lot of us were confused which lead to a series of misplaced thoughts and emotions. I think a lot of us questioned the hype and continued with our lives as if nothing happened. I think a lot of us tapped into survival mode and became even more creative, obsessive and relentless. I also think a lot of us are just plain ol' lazy. A lot of us keep intellectualizing why we shouldn't begin our self-appointed or divine ordered mission.
