A deserted village which was destroyed by the natural disasters and the Plague. Craco is a haunted hill surviving amidst the chaos. Despite the residents abandoning the medieval town, the major part of the town still stands in the sands of time. Craco is situated on the tip of Italy where the village is set out on a 1300 foot high cliff viewing the river valley which is down.

Gian Maria Volontè in
Christ Stopped At Eboli ( Cristo si è fermato a Eboli)   (1979) Director: Francesco Rosi
So I’ve recently studied Italian Films at Uni. One of the films I studied took me to a place called Craco in the Basilicata region of Italy.  It’s fascinated me ever since. This film was filmed in Craco in 1979, Craco was deemed unsafe after an earthquake in 1980 and all the residents had to leave.  Since the 1960s landslides and earthquakes had caused houses and even the main town square to fall away and crumble. So by the time Rosi and his crew arrived although people were still living there Craco was already suffering the impact of the nature’s wrath.  And you can see when you see the scenes filmed in Craco some of the buildings were ruins and others were falling apart.
So this scene I believe was filmed in Craco (it is hard to confirm) but I think you can see the ruins in this photo . https://goo.gl/maps/ZbRkcVEDjvbqWRa96
There are other films that had been filmed in Craco and I will try to get my hands on those films. One from the late 1950s is of real interest to me.
