mini reviews #003: 'nugudom' - craxy

I don’t care what anyone says, this is camp to me.

I’m going to quickly get the obligatory actual song discussion out of the way before we talk about how iconic this is, so let’s go.

‘Nugudom’ is a very standard run-of-the-mill girl crush song that doesn’t especially break any boundaries for CRAXY or the industry at large, but is also well executed, produced,  and performed. I’m very unfamiliar with CRAXY’s discography, so I listened to their debut to get a sense of any growth, and it was very obvious that they have come far in their three years active in the industry. It has a kind of anti-drop in the chorus, which kind of works??? I guess??? The song to me doesn’t really have an especially memorable hook which is kind of key for a girl crush song as formulaic as this. It’s definitely a big improvement from their debut though, and the production has some fun moments.

Conceptually this song is fucking hilarious. Blackpink, the biggest girl group around right now, making a song about their haters makes sense, but CRAXY doing it is just funny to me, and so incredibly iconic. Also, was anyone else under the impression that calling a group  ‘nugu’ wasn’t even an insult??? Idek.

I will say though, having watched their comeback stage, there is very little that another group with a girl crush concept like Everglow can do that they can’t do - ChaeY especially had amazing stage presence - she totally caught my eye. CRAXY have the talent, they seem to have a very dedicated fan base, no matter how small it may be, and this comeback is shaping out to be their most successful and talked about release yet, and I could not be happier for them. Best wishes for the future girls, this was a very average song, but nonetheless iconic. 6/10 song, 10/10 concept.
