Emerging Trends in IT Standards: Cybersecurity and AI in 2025
In 2025, the IT landscape continues to evolve rapidly, with global standards organizations focusing on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI) to address emerging technological and ethical challenges.
One major development is the update to the ISO/IEC 27001 standard for information security management systems. The 2022 revision enhances controls to better reflect today’s digital threat landscape. Organizations certified under the 2013 version must transition to the 2022 version by October 31, 2025 [1].
In cybersecurity, the release of ISO/IEC 20153:2025 introduces a standardized framework for sharing vulnerability information using the Common Security Advisory Framework (CSAF) 2.0 [2]. Additionally, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has launched post-quantum cryptography standards to safeguard data against future quantum computing threats [3].
AI regulation is also taking center stage. The introduction of ISO/IEC 42001:2023 marks the first global AI management system standard, guiding organizations in the responsible and transparent use of AI [4]. Furthermore, international collaboration on AI standards is ramping up with the announcement of the 2025 International AI Standards Summit, hosted by ISO, IEC, and ITU [5].
These efforts demonstrate a strong global commitment to ensuring secure, ethical, and interoperable IT systems in an increasingly complex digital world.

"The largest investment in climate action in history" says the USDA
Meryl Nass Dec 04, 2024
Despite the additional Inflation Reduction Act funding, NRCS still did not fund nearly 64% of the applications received for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Conservation Stewardship (CSP) and Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) applications.
In fiscal year 2024, NRCS made over $3 billion available from the Inflation Reduction Act for climate-smart agriculture and forestry (CSAF) mitigation activities, in addition to the $2 billion available from the Farm Bill for all conservation activities. The agency obligated 97.6% of all available fiscal year 2024 Inflation Reduction Act conservation program financial assistance funds, or more than $1.6 billion, to farmers, ranchers and forest landowners across America. Learn more by using the Inflation Reduction Act Data Visualization Tool. Further details on program enrollment in fiscal year 2024 are also available in a fact sheet and in NRCS Financial Assistance Program Data.
For fiscal year 2025, the third year of implementation, NRCS is making up to $7.7 billion available for conservation and climate-smart practices through Farm Bill and Inflation Reduction Act funding.
A total of $19.5 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act is available over several years for climate-smart agriculture and forestry mitigation activities, including through NRCS conservation programs: EQIP, ACEP, RCPP and CSP. These programs also help advance the President’s Justice40 Initiative, which aims to ensure 40% of the overall benefits of certain climate, clean energy and other federal investments reach underserved communities.
This is probably an initial step toward the Rewilding Program discussed in the 1995 UN Report I posted about yesterday.

This post popped up on my Instagram feed today and I thought it was an lovely example of how important media representation is for marginalized groups who were traditionally excluded from mainstream film and television. It’s more than just a movie.

These photos are so cute how could I not repost them?? and they illustrate how the internet has changed so dramatically from what it’s original intentions were – it went from a research medium/government and military tool to Web 2.0′s commercialism, user-generated media, and animal pictures like these. What media was designed to be isn’t always how it ends up.

This relates to our conversations the last few weeks about representation in the media and how so often on TV shows and in movies they’ll cast one or maybe two ‘token minorities’ in an otherwise white cast so they won’t get called out for lack of representation. Stephanie Beatriz thought the show wouldn’t cast two Latina actresses but they not only did that but cast two black men in positions of power as well.

Stephanie Beatriz thought she wouldn’t be cast in Brooklyn Nine-Nine I was so happy to see a Latina [Melissa Fumero] on the show, but also so devastated because I knew… I knew there was not going to be any network that was going to cast both of us as ensemble leads on a show. So I cried a lot. And I was devastated. I showed a couple of friends at the time and I was like, *imitates crying* “I’m really happy for her but I really wanted that show.” Then it was like two days later that I got the call [that I was cast], and I was gobsmacked. I was like, “the world is fucking changing.” And it’s such a testament to the show that they cast both of us. And not only us, but also Terry Crews and Andre Braugher [two black men] in positions of power.

This panel stood out to us because it portrays a powerful female superhero who is not overly sexualized or objectified. She has a sense of determination and strength in her expression which demonstrates the absence of fear. We also enjoyed this panel because the artwork is captivating through angles, lines, and color palette.
