Is Cuba a Communist Country?
Current Political System in Cuba. Cuba is governed by the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), which has maintained a one-party state since the Cuban Revolution in 1959. One-Party Rule: Cuba operates under a single-party system where the PCC holds power, in line with Marxist-Leninist principles. This fits the classic definition of a communist state. State Ownership: major industries and businesses are state-owned, which aligns with the communist principle of public ownership of the means of production. Planned Economy: the Cuban economy is largely planned by the government, with limited private enterprise allowed, especially in recent years.
Reform and Marketization. In recent years, Cuba has introduced reforms that allow for limited private enterprises, freelancing, and some market-oriented policies. While these reforms are limited and state-controlled, they indicate a move towards a mixed economy rather than a pure communist system.
Emergence of Social Inequality. Although Cuba theoretically aims for a classless society, elements of social inequality have emerged, particularly with the rise of a wealthy tourism sector that benefits certain individuals or groups over others.
Conclusion While Cuba operates under a government controlled by the Communist Party and continues to hold many characteristics associated with communist ideology, various factors, including economic reforms, social inequality, and authoritarian governance, complicate its classification as a pure communist state. Thus, it would be correct to define Cuba as a socialist country.

youtube
Maier Suchowljansky was born in Grodno, Russian Empire (now Belarus), to a Polish-Jewish family who experienced antisemitism and pogroms from Imperial authorities. In 1911, Lansky emigrated to the United States through the port of Odessa with his mother and brother Jacob, and joined his father, who had immigrated in 1909, and settled on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. Lansky met Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel when they were children. They became lifelong friends, as well as partners in the bootlegging trade, and together managed the Bugs and Meyer Mob, with its reputation as one of the most violent Prohibition gangs.

This one…. is still, and will always be one of my favorites.

This is Carl, the Cuban, Ruiz.
Carl was hilarious, loud, extremely generous, kind, and one of the most talented, bad assiest chefs at the top of his game, on this planet. He said he was an underdog. He was seemingly extremely unaware of his brilliance. Carl won cooking contest after cooking contest against the best chefs, anywhere. He was a man who decided to be himself, and to share his love. And his vehicle of his love was through his food.
He tickled the hearts of most everyone he came across. He yelled a lot. He was Cuban. He yelled when he was happy. He yelled when he was mad, he yelled when he was sweaty and under pressure, and when he was talking. He yelled when he was frustrated with Guy Fieri, his good pal, when Guy would challenge his cooking prowess with impossible restrictions and hurdles to jump through on “Guy’s Grocery Games” on the food network. Regardless of the shenanigans and the pranks and the silly stuff that was pulled on him, he always delivered extremely amusing and deliciously awesome entertainment. He is a joy to watch. Carl won most, and lost few. But he was always out there, trying. And no matter how much he played the grocery games, people, and sportsmanship, and the love, always came first. He was a kind competitor, a teacher, a mentor, and a fair, supportive, constructive judge. Class act.
Carl was beloved, and gave that love back to the world in a huge way. He has a beautiful family, and he made everyone who witnesses him, seem like family too. And Carl was a such a friendly character, with all the right ingredients to be a 3 Michelin star person. He was well seasoned, just the right amount in fact, and he cooked with love. And nothing tastes better….

Carl’s friends….are suspect though…. 🙈🤷♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Self-portrait of the artist as a ‘Mambí’ by Alejandro Segui Cuozo. The term ‘Mambí’ is used to describe guerrilla Cuban independence soldiers who fought against Spain in the Ten Years' War (1868–78) and Cuban War of Independence (1895–98), and it’s applied by extension to describe any freedom fighter throughout Cuban history.

The Los Martires de Cuba (The Martyrs of Cuba) monument in Key West Cemetery. The following is the story behind the monument, text in the third photo, as written by the San Carlos Institute, fourth photo: Los Martires de Cuba (“Cuban Martyrs”) Plot at the Key West Cemetery honors the thousands of the Cubans who fought for Cuba’s independence from Spain. It was established by Key West’s Cuban Community in 1892 at a time when Key West was Florida’s largest city. The city’s population was composed largely of Cuban exiles who worked in the thriving cigar industry. Raw tobacco leaves were imported from Cuba and hand-rolled into cigars in Key West’s large cigar factories. The practice avoided high custom duties and enabled the finished cigars to be sold in the United States as a domestic product at competitive prices. The Cuban Martyrs’ plot is separated from the surrounding grounds by a wrought iron fence and gates bearing the seal of the Republic of Cuba. The flags of Cuba and the United States fly daily on each side of the gates. The obelisk at the center of the plot honors the four Cuban armies who fought the Spaniards in the Ten Years War that began in 1868. Each side of the obelisk bears the name of one of the four insurgent Cuban armies. The inscriptions on other monuments in the plot pay tribute to those who suffered imprisonment or death in the struggle for Cuba’s freedom. The only person known to be buried in the Cuban Martyrs Plot is Antonio Diaz Carrasco, a resident of Key West who arrived from Cuba as a nine-year old exile, studied at the San Carlos Institute and later served as one of its teachers. When Cuba won its independence in 1902, Carrasco was appointed as the first Cuban consul in Key West and served in this capacity from 1903 until his death in 1915. The Cuban Martyrs’ Plot is maintained by the board of the historic San Carlos Institute, the Cuban educational and patriotic center founded in 1871 and located at 516 Duval Street in Key West. The history of the Cuba Martyrs Plot and the San Carlos are closely intertwined. #keywestcemetery #cemetery #keywest #sancarlosinstitute #cuba #cubanhistory #keywesthistory #florida (at Key West Cemetery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CgMjnLDLUMS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Che Guevara 1960 (Photo by Albert Korda, courtesy Couturier Gallery, L.A.) From LIFE’s “100 Photographs That Changed the World”. Cuban revolutionary Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara had just been killed in Bolivia in 1967 when, as if on cue, this epitomic portrait of a left wing firebrand was released to the world in many forms, especially posters. Its romantic bravado captured the hearts and minds of young people everywhere. Korda’a photo “Guerrillero Heroica” had been taken in 1960 at a service for slain Cuban revolutionaries, and Korda later gave the picture to an Italian publisher who, after Guevara’s death, made it into a poster. If Grable’s is the archetypal pinup, then Guevara’s, which sold millions, is the quintessential poster. Korda never got a penny. #history #photograph #colorphotography #cuba #camerahistory #cubanhistory #americanhistory #cheguevara https://www.instagram.com/p/CVVykPnLPmy/?utm_medium=tumblr

Cuba - Memories of Travel / Recuerdos de Viaje
Hardcover in Lid and Bottom Box
This is a book about Memories of Travel. Cuba has always been a place of mystery and enchantment. As far back as 1838 the Lithographic Printing Company of the Royal Patriotic Society of Havana had hired Pierre Toussaint Frédéric Mialhe to take notes of the city and its surroundings. These visits were documented in three classic books: La isla de Cuba pintoresca, La Isla de Cuba and Picturesque Trip through the Island of Cuba.
