Three years ago this week I was in New Mexico riding and photographing the @cumbrestoltec. My hotel room was across the street from the station. Waking up to the sounds of a bustling steam powered rail yard is pretty strange in the context of the sounds of industry that I'm used to, but I'm sure it was much the same as it was 80+ years ago. I got up a few hours before the train was scheduled to depart and wandered the yard as the crews got the trains ready. . . "Engine 487" - Colorado - This train was photographed in Southern Colorado during a somewhat stormy summer afternoon. I was traveling in my RV heading from New Mexico to Colorado to participate in an art festival when I noticed this trainyard. I am glad I stopped because as I was walking up to the tracks, this train just happened to be arriving. This is a 3-photo HDR image processed a number of years ago using Nik Software.
