“YOUR VOICE CHANGED MY LIFE”: FAN REPORTS HUG WITH LOUIS TOMLINSON AT CURITIBA SHOW
Tumblr media
Among the most memorable moments of Louis Tomlinson's show in Curitiba this Sunday (12), the hug from a fan was more than special. Emanuellen “Manu” Silva de Abreu, 17, held a sign that said, in English: “I’m blind, but your voice changed my life.” Excited, the singer hugged the fan, who is visually impaired, sharing a unique moment.
“His voice changed my life in so many ways,” says Manu. “When he hugged me, I felt something surreal. His voice brings me so much peace, so much calm, and yesterday, when he sang in my ear, the feeling I felt was incredible. But what prevailed most was love.”
Tumblr media

Born in São João do Caiuá, in the interior of Paraná, Manu has listened to Louis Tomlinson since she was four years old, influenced by her sister Gabriele, who accompanied her to the show. This was the first idol show she witnessed. “I already knew that going to Louis' show would be incredible, but it never crossed my mind that he would hug me,” she confesses.
The performance in Curitiba, at the Ligga Arena, ended the Brazilian leg of the ex-One Direction tour, which is now heading to Uruguay.

“This is exactly why I love Brazil. One minute you're laying on the beach in the pouring heat, and the next you're standing in the rain with all of you wonderful people. It feels like I’m supposed to be in the rain with you a little bit!” - Pedreira Paulo Leminski, Curitiba - December 10

Hi! I saw that you were in 3 shows of Louis in Brasil. Do you mind sharing your favorite moments of each show? If you do mind ignore my ask, I just love reading fan experiences of Louis' shows.
I hope you have a nice day!
hiii i'm sorry it took so long, i was enjoying the rest of my vacation then i got sick due to the different weathers in every city 😬, but anyways here we gooo
i know you asked for my favorite moments but i talk too much and rambled about everything kjsdnadsk
RIO I got to the venue at 7pm, after a lot of traffic and anxiety 🫠, and there was still a big line to get in making giant rooks go on stage 15 minutes later than expected. I had listened a bit to them when the opening acts were announced but i loooved seeing them live, their concert was so much fun, i had a lot on my mind that day but as soon as they started playing my worries were gone like, music is everything really.
The venue's capacity is for 18k people, but i guess there were about 12k there? I'm not sure but, the chairs around me were half empty (a lot of people moved to closer seats), the floor was full but the stands not so much yk. It makes sense when you think it was on a wednesday and a lot of people couldn't make it.
As I went alone to this one and there weren't many people around me it was like me and louis and just letting out all of my emotions. Idk if it happens to anyone else, but I get a lot more emotional when I'm alone at shows. I don't even have much to say here cause I was really there in the moment giving my all, screaming my lungs out to hoth and feeling all this time deep in my soul (the drama lmao).
SÃO PAULO I was really tired after barely a day of rest at home, then packing another bag to curitiba, it was hectic, but thank god i had stands tickets again and my friends got there ealier and saved a seat for me.
Not to paraphrase harry but, that show was loud, loud and LOUD. Seriously, I've never seen so many people scream and jump for an opening act?? I was actually kinda shocked at how full the stadium was, its full capacity is 60k but as they were using only half the space i guess there were about 25k-30k people, it was really packed. Like, that video from outside the stadium that you can hear the screams is kinda crazy if you think it wasn't at full capacity.
This concert left me so proud of him, of how far he has come, like he said with no radio support or anything, seeing him in my favorite venue in my city with so many people screaming for him was something really special. This one was really about US, the fans and louis, i can't say it enough but the crowd was like part of the show too. Also, the big stage, the catwalk, the fireworks, those things made it all so much bigger, like a celebration for where he is now. I'll never forget his face impressed by the crowd like every five seconds, he deserves it all, i love this man to death.
His only wrongs that day tho were wearing that ugly outfit and not singing saturdays on a saturday!!!!
CURITIBA I had slept for like 4 hours, took a flight in the morning and spent the whole day kinda sick and anxious, I really do not know were i took forces to this concert but i did and i gave 200% of myself. I had floor tickets this time so i let myself go and jump around like crazy.
We stayed in the left side of the stage were it was a lot more chill and we could walk around. Most of the time I stayed a bit close to the stage but not so much cause i like having my own space to breath, sometimes I'd get closer to record something. By the encore I found an empty space in the far left of the barricade to see him better during silver tongues.
For me it was the most fun concert, you could see louis was happy, there was a group in front of me dancing and having so much fun together, like he said no one will stand still in a brazilian crowd that's for sure! Also, there was this girl who was talking to us before the concert who found me during the encore and we literally just screamed wdbhg at each other lmao i don't even know her name, but i can't stop thinking about it, it was really funny.
Oh and that outfit!!!! The way i screamed when i saw him in all black, i kept looking at my friends like why the fuck does this man look so good!!! WE WON!!!!
When the barricade moment happened I was only looking at him so I didn't understand what was going on, then by the end my friends said he was with a kid, but only when i got to the apartment we were staying i saw the full context and video, that broke me. He so sweet and precious, it makes everything i did for him so much more worth it than it already was, this plus the donations for Rio Grande do Sul filled my heart with so much love for him.
Also, after the concert we were trying to buy merch, but most sizes were sold out, the line was huge and security was hushing people out of the stadium 🙃 then 10 minutes later we found out louis was playing football at the pitch lmao
Some other points - I absolutely LOVE the stage design, the lights and screens going up and down work so great, it's amazing to witness it live - THE BAND, i don't even need to say anything right? his band is fucking incredible, i live for every single guitar solo from michael - The 2 seconds that takes people to realize that he is singing night changes and wdbhg are the funniest shit istg kskdnkll - People will ask me why I would go to the same concert 3 times, and just istg it IS different, they are all different experiences and i'd do it all over again (which i actually did, cause i saw louis twice and harry 3 times in 2022)
---
Last but not least, i will to speak in portuguese to thank my friends skjndkjsan

“Even when the night changes, it won’t change you and me.” With this verse of “Night Changes” by One Direction, Louis Tomlinson shows that nothing has changed among Brazilian fans, who sang the singer’s songs and two hits of his group of origin in loud and good sound at Ligga Arena in Curitiba, on Sunday night, May 12.
The performance closed the “Faith in the Future” tour in Brazil, which began in Rio de Janeiro, on the 8th, and passed through São Paulo, on the 11th. The opening show was by the German band Giant Rooks, and soon after, at 8:05 p.m., a total blackout began the performance of Louis. Already in the first verses of “The Greatest” it was clear the love of fans for the British, who sang all the songs of the show together, focused mainly on the artist’s solo songs.
After achieving resounding success with One Direction, Louis embarked on a solo career after the group hiatus in 2016. The first album came in 2020, Walls, followed by “Faith in the Future” in 2022. That’s the job he’s always wanted to do, without worrying about commercial success – and that’s clear during the show. His personality on stage is more tranquil, restrained, with few interactions – or, we could say, interactions in his way. Instead of long conversations between songs, he walks the setlist song after song – the first line with the audience came only after three songs. But clearly, always very grateful. “I couldn’t do these amazing shows were it not for the support of amazing people like you, so thank you so much,” the artist said.
He also took the opportunity to thank everyone for the support of all to Rio Grande do Sul – the singer’s shows in Brazil were a point of collection of donations. Only then did he follow with “Face the Music,” which the audience accompanied in chorus. In the midst of the songs, Louis seemed to pay close attention to the fans, pointing, wave. But to speak, in fact, he left to speak much more about the music.
It wasn’t long before the group One Direction's first hit came on the scene – “Night Changes,” in a different version, Louis-style. But soon he returned to the solo album with “Chicago,” followed by a cover of Post Malone, “West Chemical.” It intersperses more melodic and quiet songs with intense hits like “Ball Written All Over Your Face,” which gives an energizing tone throughout the show.
For the “bis”, he came with three songs – “Saturdays”, “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” – the second and last song of One Direction that is part of the setlist – followed by “Silver Tongues”, which closes with a golden key the presentation. He even took the opportunity to get off the stage and go close to the audience – and interacted with a fan who took a sign indicating that she was “blind, but her voice changed my life”. He hugged her and stayed close so that the fan could feel the artist.
Louis Tomlinson, 32, shows himself mature and authentic – ready to pack many other years in his solo career alongside longtime fans. See you next next, Louis!

Feel free to criticize anything you think can be changed or fit to make the state a better representation
Paraná!!! This is very cool :D
Honestly, I don't think there's anything here that needs changing of any kind! Also I think it's very fun given the way you made their family tree, it makes it so that the southern states are siblings, I like that lol!
I can give you some fun facts about Paraná though, which perhaps if you want, you can incorporate somewhere! ^^ Or just think they're interesting, idk!
Between the three Southernmost states, Paraná is the only one with an indegenous (in this case, old Guarani) name - as it is the name of one of the most important rivers. Means roughly "river that seems like/is similar to the ocean". Also on the topic of rivers, the Paraná river is where our biggest Hidroelectric plant is (its actually binational, and it supplies for both Brazil and Paraguay), Itaipu. If I'm not mistaken, it was the biggest in the world until China's Three Gorges! Its capital city, Curitiba, claims to be the cleanest city in Brazil. It is not. Two of Paraná's big symbols are the Araucária tree and the Gralha Azul (Azure Jay).
I kind of headcanon for that reason for Paraná to like botany and have a pet bird. You can yank that headcanon if you want - I also always made Paraná really like football solely on the merit that there's a football club called Coritiba that was founded in Curitiba lmao.

Yeah, that's exactly what happened. He stepped on an energy cable and leaned on the food truck and he was shocked.
Unfortunately the companies responsible for bringing artists to Brazil are being extremely reckless in an overall. Less than four months ago we had a casualty on a Taylor Swift concert, where a fan passed away from heat and exhaustion because the organization fucked things up.
It was abnormally hot in that period and they thought it'd be a great idea to close all air exits so people "couldn't watch" from outside the stadium, even though the event was a complete sold out.
They also sold more tickets than the venue could handle, so it was over capacitated.
The structure they used to protect the soccer field was made of fucking metal, on a day that was exceptionally hot (we reached 100°F that day), with the sun burning that shit the whole day.
The real feel at the stadium was 147°F at NINE PM! A few people fell down on that shit at some point and had 3rd degree burns because of it.
And on top of that, the water they were selling went out before the show even started, and in Brazil you're not allowed to bring water bottles to concerts, nor they offer hydration points.
All because ✨ capitalism ✨
To wrap things up, there was an extra gig the next day, and Taylor said she wouldn't perform on those situations, specifically given what happened the day before, and the company was reluctant until the very last minute, to the point where door were opened and people stayed inside until they announced 10min before the concert time that the show was postponed.
Gosh, I'm so infuriated by this, it makes me sick.
So, yeah, not easy times for concerts and festivals in Brazil...
You pay a fucking fortune to go see your favorite artists and you have the possibility of dying!?
(for example, I paid 200 USD (without taxes) to see the boys in São Paulo and 84 in Curitiba)
Sorry for the long ask, it's just... Too much
Wow! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. This is all so sad. Stuff like that does happen here, but not as much as it used to. I'm hoping that these tragedies aren't totally in vain and promoters learn some sort of lesson about fan safety. Fuck capitalism to the highest degree.

some stuff about the curitiba show :)
when the roadies were setting up the stage, one of them soundchecked alex's mic, and a few minutes later another roadie came with wipes and sanitized the mic and the stand, which i thought was very nice and important
no mirrorballs in sight :( not even when they were setting up the stage
something that i forgot to mention in the primavera são paulo post: the song they've chosen to enter the stage to these past shows is tom jones's it's not unusual which is jfnjfvnjfvnjvn so funny for some reason
hearing sculptures live and as the first song on the set is still one of the best experiences i've had in my life (twice!!!). the instrumentals are impeccable, you can feel the bass, the drums and the synth in your whole body (not just the chest, which is my favorite part) and alex's voice is intoxicating. the gasp is still unbelievable and made me light-headed lol
when alex walked out i got pretty disappointed that he was wearing the same outfit that he did in primavera, but as the show went on i started to think that he didn't, bc i started to see that now in curitiba his blazer was black whereas in primavera it was blue. now i'm not so sure nvjfnjngj i think it really was the same blazer, the black one. lighting is crazy
alex was having some kind of trouble with his in-ear monitors, he kept taking them out and putting them back in. at first i thought it was bc he wanted to hear the crowd sing along, but then i realized that he kept gesturing to the crew on the wings of the stage to adjust the sound (by pointing at his mic than up, at matt than down, etc)
it was a bit chilly in curitiba by the time the show started (like 12ºC i think) and, bc of the dry ice on stage, you could see alex's breath coming out of his mouth when he sang. i thought that was just so cool. def an imagine that is forever engraved in my mind
hearing the entire crowd shout HA in that part in body paint was awesome
during 505 alex kept going HUH very emphatically every few lines for some fucking reason lol it didn't annoy my bc this was my third time seeing this song live and for me that sure made it very memorable but i'm sure that for the poor people experiencing it for the first time it must've been really jarring fnvjfvnjgbn
will forever and ever be trying to come to terms with the fact that they've could've played opp instead of 4/5 and fireside instead of the car but they didn't :( (i love 4/5 and the car but i had seen them in primavera already) wish i could've experienced that's where you're wrong live too :(
he walked on stage for the encore after the rest of the band in the nick of time again, just in time to help "guide" matt through the stabs before the main part of the song and to start singing on his cue
during mirrorball, when he sang the "for the moment when you look them in the eyes" line, he chose someone in the crowd to lock eyes with and stared at them for a good 20 seconds, and the crowd lost their colective minds lol. in the moment i thought that person must've Died but then the next day i found out that the person was the girl who met them in the hotel in rio de janeiro. i saw that she posted on instagram that he was trying to read the sign she'd brought. i messaged her and now we're friendly with each other lol
during r u mine alex kept glancing up at the sky and i'm pretty sure he was looking at the lightning, it started to rain the Second the show ended
he only said "obrigado" a few times but something in portuguese that he did say that surprised me a Lot (a lot) was "OIEEE" bc. for non-portuguese speakers: "oie" is Such a casual hi it's crazy. it's basically a "hiii <3" vfnkdmkjfg how does he know that who even taught him that how did that even come up vfkmdckfjgn he did it like two or three times, and i lost it in each one lol
he didn't walk around the stage so much as i was used to him doing when i saw them live in lolla 2019 and now in primavera, but he seemed very relaxed and happy and smiled a lot, thanked the crowd a bunch and threw a lot of kisses at us and stuff
after the show ended i stuck around and started screaming at the crew on stage to give me the setlist but when like over 5 of them had shrugged and smiled apologetically at me as if to say they couldn't, i decided it was time to give up lol (no one from the crowd ended up getting it, which made me feel better)

Motornormativity (4/4)
Conclusion: “…and why should I care?”
Tumblr media
Ok, so why is this even a thing?
Anyone active in urban planning or transportation planning / civil engineering will be very familiar with the lively discussions taking place about changing the paradigm re: transportation… that we can’t keep building more roads to solve congestion issues and that our cities need to be more compact, to make them more sustainable by using less energy.
(There are multiple benefits to a less auto-oriented culture, but energy use reductions and sustainability are a big one.)
Cities cannot reasonably expect their residents make the necessary changes unless the alternatives are seen as viable options. This is going to remain a challenge until the infrastructure for these modes is available (like sidewalks and bike lanes) and there will always be trade-offs; transit today is routinely at least going to take 2x or more time to make a trip compared to a car.
There also need to be inviting places to walk, bike, ride transit, and socialize.
Tumblr media
Like other cities similar to it, Brisbane has some of the necessary elements to be less auto-oriented… but is still very much auto-oriented.
Tumblr media
Note that not all cities are stuck in this situation. Over the last fifty years, Copenhagen has made a shift towards active transportation, and Curitiba is an example of a city that changed to make heavy use of bus rapid transit. But in Copenhagen’s case, this has meant taxes and fees to dissuade people from driving. And Curitiba is maxing out its BRT capacity.
As long as people still believe that they have no choice but to drive, people will not change their habits. Providing more transport choices and raising awareness about those modes will be key. “Bluey” has actually made some efforts to do this, perhaps without even intending to do so!
It may be a sweeping statement but people all tend to take for granted what we've grown up with. What happens in “Bluey” episodes will seem familiar to anyone who’s about the same age as “Bluey” and Bingo’s parents. Incorporating ideas into these stories that make alternatives to driving “ok” and “not unusual” helps encourage children and their families to consider such options seriously, particularly given that many people seem open to emulating the Heeler’s parenting styles / “taking advice from a dog” 😉
Feel free to send me your thoughts on this. -Dave

San Dimas - CA 🇺🇸 Sofia Chudzik Bauer | IG: @sofiacbauer
🇧🇷 PT_BR

I never imagined that the end of summer in California would leave me feeling melancholic. It was a challenge, not only because of everything that happened in my personal life, but also because I've never experienced temperatures of nearly 40 degrees Celsius almost every day for three months, with much lower humidity than I'm used to in Curitiba. I've been practically on my own, doing everything solo, and believing that there's a purpose in going through all of this. It's been a challenge, not just mentally and personally, but also physically.
Although other priorities prevented me from experiencing some of the typical summer activities here, it has been a good summer. Even though somewhat solitary, I ventured into trails, had some fun skidding on the sand while biking, visited beaches, discovered charming local shops, started a shopping group, soaked up more sun in three months than in my entire life, focused on social media and mentoring, acquired wonderful clients, and embarked on a 40-day journey of fasting and prayer. I realized that, step by step, without forcing anything, I managed to grow in all areas of my life.
This summer came as an active cleanse in my life, not a resting period to recharge from the energy depletion of the first months of the year, but rather a recovery in motion. It was the time to act with more energy, without losing sight of fun and reflection, balancing action and contemplation. I understood that things happen as they should, in their own time, and it's up to me to maintain consistency and confidence that all of this will take me somewhere, especially where I want to go.
It wasn't easy, but the secret was not making things harder for myself. I started to trust and believe in myself more, realizing that I am capable, and it's just a matter of discipline, willpower, wisdom, and a lot of patience because growing isn't a simple task, but remaining stagnant is even worse.
Even though I didn't go on as many trips and engage in as many activities as planned, I'm loving my summer, and I know the next one will be even better.

LOUIS TOMLINSON SHOWS THAT NOTHING HAS CHANGED AMONG FANS AND CLOSES BRAZILIAN TOUR IN CURITIBA
Tumblr media
“Even when the night changes, it won’t change you and me.” With this verse from “Night Changes”, by One Direction, Louis Tomlinson shows that nothing has changed among Brazilian fans, who sang the singer's songs and two hits from his original group loud and clear at the Ligga Arena, in Curitiba, on the evening of Sunday, May 12th.
The presentation closed the “Faith in the Future” tour in Brazil, which began in Rio de Janeiro, on the 8th, and passed through São Paulo, on the 11th. The opening show was performed by the German band Giant Rooks, and soon Furthermore, at 8:05 pm, a total blackout started Louis' performance. Already in the first verses of “The Greatest” the fans’ love for the Brit was clear, as they sang along to all the songs in the show, focusing mainly on the artist’s solo songs.
Tumblr media
After achieving resounding success with the group One Direction, Louis embarked on a solo career after the group's hiatus in 2016. The first album came in 2020, “Walls”, followed by “Faith in the Future”, in 2022. That's the job which he always wanted to do, without worrying about commercial success – and this becomes clear during the show. His personality on stage is calmer, more restrained, with few interactions – or, we could say, interactions in his own way. Instead of long conversations between songs, he walks through the setlist song after song – the first talk to the audience came only after three songs. But clearly, he was always very grateful. “I wouldn't be able to do these incredible shows if it weren't for the support of incredible people like you, so thank you very much,” said the artist.
He also took the opportunity to thank everyone for their support in Rio Grande do Sul – the singer's shows in Brazil were a collection point for donations. Only then did he follow up with “Face the Music”, which the audience followed in chorus. In the middle of the songs, Louis seemed to pay close attention to the fans, pointing, waving. But he left much more for the music to do the talking.
It didn't take long for One Direction's first hit to hit the scene – “Night Changes”, in a different version, in the style of Louis. But he soon returned to the solo album with “Chicago,” followed by a cover of Post Malone’s “Chemical.” He intersperses more melodic and calm songs with intense hits like “Written All Over Your Face”, which sets an energizing tone throughout the show.
For the “encore”, he came with three songs – “Saturdays”, “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” – the second and last One Direction song that is part of the setlist – followed by “Silver Tongues”, which closes with a key of gold the presentation. He even took the opportunity to get off the stage and get close to the audience – and interacted with a fan who carried a sign indicating that she was “blind, but her voice changed my life”. He hugged her and stood close so the fan could feel the artist.
Louis Tomlinson, 32 years old, appears mature and authentic – ready to spend many more years in his solo career alongside his longtime fans. Until next time, Louis!

One day i vowed to become a researcher, internationally qualified researcher on my field. A researcher who isn’t only publishing scientific papers but also giving a more real impact to the society.
One day i was in Mekong learning what weeds are important, the next day in Luzon to evaluate our compound. The other day in Curitiba to observe more business chances, and another day in Delhi to learn from other companies how they do the research and business.
One day i struggled to communicate in Japanese because i was the only foreigner. The next day i presented my whole work in Japanese. The other day i had to speak fluently both English and Japanese in Mississippi while had to absorbed information presented on both languages as fast as i could.
I had come a long way sometimes i don’t realize i have made it. I realized that those feelings of worry or nervousness are coming from my unconscious mind that says “you’ve done it, so what’s next?”
But i know one day i will be somewhere again and i will say to my self that i have done it marvelously well.

Scientists breathed a sigh of relief on Sunday as Brazil narrowly elected Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as president, ousting the current leader, who they say disregarded science, weakened environmental policies and disparaged minority groups.
Overcoming the reputational damage of a 19-month stint in prison on corruption charges that were tossed out in 2021, Lula received nearly 51% of the vote in a runoff election against the right-wing incumbent, Jair Bolsonaro. Lula, a leftist labour leader and former president, will take office in January. What a new president in Brazil could mean for science
“Today is a very hopeful day here in Brazil,” says Elisa Orth, a chemist at the Federal University of Paraná in Curitiba. Orth has watched students walk away from science over the past several years, while Bolsonaro slashed research funding and attacked scientists, academics and others. With Lula, Orth says, “we voted for somebody who believes in science, who believes in education”.
Many scientists and academics had lined up in favour of Lula, who garnered international fame during his first two terms in office, from 2003 to 2010, for promoting sustainable development, lifting millions out of poverty and sharply reducing deforestation in the Amazon. His Workers’ Party invested heavily in science, innovation and education.
By contrast, during his presidency, Bolsonaro cut science budgets, curbed the enforcement of environmental laws and promoted misinformation about COVID-19 and vaccines during the pandemic, which killed more than 685,000 people in Brazil. A former army captain, Bolsonaro repeatedly questioned the legitimacy of Brazil’s electoral system in the run-up to the election, leading many to fear that he might attempt a coup. He had not yet conceded the election and had made no public comments on the outcome by the time Nature published this story.
“I’m feeling relieved,” says Luis Sánchez, an environmental engineer at the University of São Paulo. Lula’s election provides hope that Brazil can move forward with new policies to protect the environment, reduce poverty and promote a more sustainable and equitable route for economic development, Sánchez says, “but it won’t be easy”.
