I see you are a perfumer! What’s a good advice to give someone with a terrible sense of smell and by that I mean I smell a perfume and all I can say is that it smells like the label. I don’t understand what it means to detect differences in cheap perfume, good perfume, also the titles— if they’re even realistic. Basically Ive never picked up a perfume I genuinely liked above all the others because it just all becomes one big blend of good smell (I hardly find bad ones)
AH I could write you a full paper on this or make a ppt, but I will try to keep things short. The truth of the matter is that perfumers actually have to train their nose to smell the different individual scents making up a fragrance so it's normal/expected that it's hard to figure out specifics without doing a looooot of intentional sniffing of your own. For my class, I spent so much time memorizing scents LOL and I'm nowhere near what I'd need to be to be considered for a proper degree in it lol.
In general, I encourage folks to figure out what scent family and or vibes that you like. (Here's a link that goes into depth) or just use this over generalized list:
Florals - Rose, Lillies, Ylang Ylang
Fruity - Pear, Orange, Apples
Fresh - Linen, Cotton, "Water"
Gourmands - Chocolate, Vanilla, Coconut, Cake
Woody - Cedar, Pine, Sandalwood
Spicy - Cinnamon, Patchouli (which is also considered woody tbh)
But once you figure out the vibes you like, I would pick a brand at a store (Replica @ Sephora is my fav pick for beginners) and look up the perfumes on Fragrantica. Then see which perfumes fit the vibes you like from above. If you can make the trip in or get your hands on a discovery kit, spritz some onto paper, let it settle and then sniff. Sniff again in 30 min. Write down your thoughts! Only spray your final picks on you- see how they smell after an hour. The base notes will be revealed by then.
A lot of picking out perfume is just trial and error. But once you start narrowing down what you like, you can generally suss out the scents you like. And it's easier to tell the differences between them. Basically the more you do it, the better you get.
Example: At the beginning of my perfume journey I wanted to find something new to year. I love my Mother's Chanel, but wanted something less "perfumey" so I went on fragrantica and looked at the notes ---Rose and Jasmine stood out so I checked out what Replica had and tried out several scents before settling on Lazy Sunday Morning. They smell completely different but it has similar notes that I love (ROSE). I had to shop around a bit to find it and probably wouldn't have picked it up on my own.
Fwiw: If you can tell me things you like (both perfume or bathroom products i.e. shampoos etc) I can give you starting points! I keep a collection of perfume at home so when my friends come over, I can give them suggestions based on vibes or scent families.
ex. I want to smell like a basic bitch candy rose -> Rose Goldea (no hate to this scent; i wear it often)
ex. I want a warm gourmand scent that's unique -> Ummagumma
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

my energy-revisiting my first post
i feel like a mess, i dont know myself anymore
when i wrote about "my energy" everything flowed so naturally, now i'm just stuck
but i'll force myself to write about all the things that make me, me, just so i can find myself in between all this mess my mind has been through lately. here i go, i present to you, again, my energy (revisited and modified)
a little cup of coffee with oat milk from the coffee shop i now work at, orange juice on free days and matcha latte at home before class. early mornings reading books and feeling the cold wind, listening to the birds chirping as my reading soundtrack and seeing the sun arise through the window. late night readings before sleeping, when everything is quiet and i feel like the only person alive. struggling to see the words cause there's almost no light or cause i'm too sleepy. mixing silver and gold jewelry. baggy low waist dark trousers with any type of basic top that fits me right (maybe a little longer on my sleeves) and comfortable flat shoes as my go to outfit. i dont care anymore. i dont wear platforms to appear taller and slimmer, i seek comfort. keeping my hair long and messy. no make up make up look (now for real), wearing lipstick instead of eyeliner. wearing you by glossier or another 13 by le labo instead of santal 33. i still love french cinema and dream everyday of being percieved by others as the protagonist of any rohmer's movie. i dont own a moleskin anymore but i write in every piece of paper i can find, preferably in black ink. i still feel the need to document everything i go through. i still keep a diary, i still film my days. jonas mekas films always in mind, annie ernaux books all highlighted and noted. vintage leather bags with lip balm, lip liner, a sweet treat and my current read. reading almost exclusively books written by woman,, they just get me. making playlist for every emotion i feel, one for anger, one for tranquility and one (the most special) for the best feeling in the world: leaving the cinema, after you've sat for a few hours in a room full of strangers, all there to do the same thing as you, and you've lived another life for those few hours. for when you open the exit door and take the first breath of fresh air and feel renewed, like a new person. everything you do becomes cinematic, your life feels like a movie, and of course you need a playlist by your side.
im still daydreaming all the time. still missing a boy, still thinking about the way he used to call me or how every part of his body used to feel. still wondering what would've happened, how things would've been. still biting my lips and eating cookies every time im anxious.
still wearing my silk dresses and my grandma's nightgowns to sleep in the summer and matching blue pijamas when it's cold. i own a new phone now, but i still have a clear phone case with movie tickets (still collect them). going to the cinema at least twice a month, now that i can afford it. visiting art exhibitions alone with my wired headphones and lots of curiosity. now i seek the sun and long for the summer time, even though i'm still a cold weather enjoyer at heart. still a paris lover and romanticist-more than ever since i lived my before sunrise fantasy when i spent a whole day in the city of love with the boy from another country i'd met fifteen days before. i cried admiring the sunset in montmartre (like delphine on le rayon vert) and kissed him under the stars to mr brightside by the killers haha.
i still think of him, of all the people i've met throughout my life, of all the people who have seen me grow and evolve. i'm forever changing and learning, and after almost three years of my first post i still preserve most of "my energy", and i can say that that version of myself is still here. a lot of things are still the same.
sometimes the girl i used to be visits me and greets me from a far. i look at myself and see all the other versions i've ever been, and i wave them back with a smile. but also with a sense of grief because i know i can never go back, i will never be six or eighteen again.
even though im never satisfied with my present self i try to focus on what i do like about who i am. i focus on what i love and work towards it. this is a little piece i wrote to reflect on how i've changed while feeling lost and melancholic in my daily life. the result of it feels bittersweet, but i feel much lighter. i encourage you to try it.
if you've read all of this, just know you have a very special place in my little heart.

HEIGHT: 5′7″ ( 174 cm ). WEIGHT: her weight oscillates between 127 lbs ( 57.6 kg ) and 134 lbs ( 61 kg ). BODY TYPE AND BUILD: she is naturally slim - courtesy of genetics and her fast metabolism - but, despite that fact, she still has a willowy frame. by no means, does she have a hourglass shape with a big bust, tiny waist and thick thighs but with a good, healthy diet and a workout plan ( that she, often, forgets to follow ) consisting of some weight training and fun classes, naomi has still managed to achieve a shape she’s comfortable with. she has particularly long legs and, thanks to all the hot yoga and pilates classes, she holds a rather toned overall body. EYE COLOR: brown. HAIR COLOR: dark brown. HAIR STYLE: her hair is, has always been - and will always be, according to her - long, hitting the middle of her back, at worst, when she goes for a trim to keep its healthy condition and it has a natural wavy texture which naomi has learned to love. styling wise, it rarely gets too eventful... during the season, she’ll throw it on a ponytail or a bun for the race weekends and allow it to dry into its natural texture on the remaining work days. if she’s attending an event of sorts or going out to celebrate, she’ll straighten it or go for a nice blowout. DOMINANT HAND: right. NOTABLE PHYSICAL TRAITS: her lips or, possibly, their plumpness, her legs that often seem endless, her tan complexion and how it makes her dark eyes and hair standout, and for the rare occasions when it makes an appearance, her smile. SCARS AND MARKS: nothing outstanding - she has your average scars and marks here and there. VOICECLAIM: nicole elise. ACCENT AND INTENSITY: having moved out and grown up in london, naomi developed a thick london accent which she never knew how intense it was up until she found herself in massachusetts. the four years spent there, softened the intensity of the british accent and the nearly six years in spain also played a part when washing away what once was a proper londoner accent so, these days, it’s hard to identify what accent she has exactly. it’s more of a mixture than anything specific.  ALLERGIES: cherries and insect stings, particularly bee stings. PHOBIAS AND FEARS: extremely deep waters and though it’s not a phobia, she gets really nervous when she’s driving over bridges. MENTAL ILLNESSES: none so far. PHYSICAL ILLNESSES: none so far. SCENT THEY WEAR: it varies depending on a lot of factors, such as season of the year, time of the day, occasion and, above all, her personal mood. during summer, you’ll often catch her wearing soleil blanc by tom ford or replica beach walk by maison margiela, and during summer nights, she'll wear sundaze by byredo. for fancy events, her go-to is bewitching yasmine by penhaligon’s, same way her go-to for nights out with friends is slow dance by byredo. whenever she has an important business meeting, she’ll wear cuir celeste by ex nihilo, simply because in naomi’s opinion, the scent is the definition of boss bitch and throughout race weekends, she’ll go for rose of no man’s land by byredo. le labo’s patchouli 24 and maison margiela’s replica by the fireplace are generally the scents she wears through winter. for date nights where she actually cares to put some effort in and is actually interested in the person, she’ll specifically wear reine de nuit by byredo or santal 33 by le labo. ALCOHOL USE: socially, she does. SMOKING: she doesn’t smoke. OTHER NARCOTICS USE: no. INDULGENT FOOD: she prefers to eat healthy but there’s no denying that every once in a while, she needs to indulge in some soul food.  SPLURGE SPENDING: it happens every now and again, but she’s mostly a responsible buyer.
