mindy dabbles both on the mass production side of candy as well as the more deluxe side. some of her candies she creates with the mindset of accessibility in mind. for example, her signature pitaya-guava lollipops could easily be sold in various convenience and superstores. however, some of her other confections are too fresh and fragile, and therefor are exclusive to her own storefront, special orders and commissions.

When you grow up a creative, energetic child with an overactive imagination and a very supportive family… you get someone like Mindy Zaki: a girl who’s childhood dream bloomed with her. Like many children, Mindy had a pretty wild sweet tooth from the get-go. Candy was such a spectacle! It could pop like fireworks on your tongue, make any party level up, and was the perfect way to seal any celebration. She loved how much emotion could surround such little delicacies. Her fixation on sweets and confections grew from easy bake ovens and junior candy making kits to taking over her parent’s kitchen with state of the art supplies. Even now, Mindy is still astounded by the variety of candy from country to country… but there was still so much more to be explored! Aren’t people sick of the same tired flavors? Grape, orange, cherry… sure they were classics… but where’s all the creativity? Her drive and passion are truly impressive… and she won’t quit until her candies are blowing Hershey and Mars out of the water.

On the outside, people look at Mindy and see a pretty girl all dressed up and reaping the rewards of a lifestyle that comes with the ‘popular’ crowd. Sure, that’s all true… but Mindy is actually a secret ‘nerd.’ She’s always had a special appreciation for the creativity that Japan had with its candy and snacks. Delving more into their culture and customs, Mindy found herself getting really into anime. Then came manga… then comics.. then superheroes, Harry Potter, Star Wars, and even video games. Naturally, no one really knows this about her. She makes sure that side of her is well hidden… especially from Tiffany and the other Sugar Racers. 

Ah, the Sugar Racers… sweet like sugar, of course! But sugar can be sour, too. Mindy understands this about herself, which is why she gets on with the crew the way she does. Compared to the other racers, Mindy is more on the laid back and open minded side— though she knows she’s by no means a saint. Mindy can be quite self-centered. Everything she does, she does for Mindy. All of the ‘do gooder’ activities and events she participates in around town… yeah that’s just to promote her business and paint her in a good light. Even when it comes to picking on Vanellope… Mindy knows its mean. She knows the bullying isn’t actually benefiting the racers. But it neither hurts nor helps herself… so she just lets it happen. Besides, it’s much better for her to be in with the Sugar Racers than out with the glitch.

Mindy is no stranger to being underestimated. The girl is well aware her niche and colorful little dream is bit outlandish to some… but she’s working her ass off for it. It’s not often that one person has both the creative and the business side to bring a brand to life, but Mindy does. She’s a whirlwind of a one-woman show. One minute she’s rolling out numbers for budgeting, supplies, goals, quota… and the next minute she’s brainstorming new flavor combinations or imagining if candied ice cream drops would be possible. Maybe candied freeze dried ice cream? Her mind truly never stops… and don’t even get her started on packaging! In truth, running a business by herself can get overwhelming at times. It’s not uncommon to catch her speeding a few laps around the track whenever she needs to let off some steam.

Fashion is a huge outlet for self expression for Mindy. She’s definitely the best dressed candy maker you’ve ever seen. Not that there’s probably much competition in that department… Who’s she got to beat anyway? Mr. Wonka? Please. Either way you’ll hardly ever catch her in an un-styled outfit. (If you do, something is seriously wrong. Be prepared to handle her tears.) Mindy is always dressed to the nines and is one of those girls that can pull off anything. Girly, edgy, preppy, street, classic… she does it all! It’s so much fun for her to style hop! However, while Mindy does love fashion, she doesn’t so much care for brands or labels like some of the other Sugar Racers do. She likes what she likes… and it makes no difference to her whether she found something on the Chanel runway or in the corner of a thrift store. She knows she looks good and feels good regardless.

Me: I hope you’re sitting next to them, because I need to know what their deal is. Brother: No, I saw them first and I was thinking, Why would you wear a QPR shirt. Then we left and I saw his car. Me: Why would you do that to your car? Brother: He’s got the plate, the plate holder, and two bumper stickers. Me: Leave a note on his car that says ‘so is your favorite club Chelsea?’ Brother: ‘Did you know that Pulisic is from Hershey, PA?’ Me: I leave that note on every car I see. Brother: I’m going to hand out Hershey bars on Halloween just to tell people. Me: Tell them, and then also paste a note to each one that says that, as a public service. Brother: I’m going to wrap that note in the wrapper, so that the kids will open it hoping to get chocolate and get a much better surprise inside. Me: You know how you can get custom M&Ms? Lizzo Just Walked the BRIT Awards Red Carpet Dressed as a Hershey's Chocolate Bar

The BRIT Awards red carpet has officially kicked off at the O2 Arena in London, and Lizzo was one of the first to show up. All wrapped up in a Hershey's chocolate bar wrapper, she looked like an actual snack.

Her dress was a custom Moschino gown inspired by designer Jeremy Scott's first collection for the brand. The strapless dress featured an asymmetrical, ruched bodice and neckline. As the dress wrapped around her body, the word "Hershey's" was positioned diagonally, extending from the front of her left shoulder to the back of her right leg.

True to Lizzo's usual style, she didn't stop at a chocolate dress, which would have been enough, but also carried the theme all the way to the tips of her fingers - literally. Her nails looked like individual blocks of chocolate, and her clutch bag was a glittering chocolate bar itself. Lizzo also accessorized with an assortment of brown diamond rings and gold hoop earrings, which featured 38 carats of brown diamonds. She also wore a 10-carat, pear-shaped Champagne diamond on her left hand, all by Lorraine Schwartz, plus a scattering of Champagne diamond band rings by Ofira Jewels.

Lizzo In Moschino – The BRIT Awards 2020

Lizzo was the star attraction at The BRIT Awards 2020 held at The O2 Arena on Tuesday (February 18) in London, and she didn’t fail to bring the drama.

The American singer, who is nominated for Best International Female Solo Artist, appeared on the red carpet wearing a custom chocolate wrapper dress, which mimics the look of American chocolate brand Hershey’s, which was designed by Jeremy Scott for Moschino.

I loved the idea and design of this dress when it was first presented on the Fall 2014 runway, as it resembled a discarded, twisted wrapper.

I don’t get the same essence on Lizzo at all sadly. I’m astounded by all those pulls.

My sister once made me watch a cooking show called ‘Nailed It.’ Sadly, her version reminded me of the after failed attempt.

For a custom dress, I would expect this to fit a lot better, and I miss the beautiful structured runway bodice.

This could’ve been so epic. I’m really disappointed.

The custom dress came with a custom embellished chocolate bar clutch which you won’t be surprised to learn was created by Judith Leiber.

On the bag was written “100%” in reference to the singer’s song lyrics: “I’m 100 per cent that bitch”.

Anyone for sushi KitKat?

Two years ago, KitKat’s marketing manager in Japan won an internal corporate award. His prize: a golden trophy shaped like one of the iconic chocolate bars.

Today, the manager, Ryoji Maki, doesn’t remember why he won the award. But he’s immensely proud of what it inspired.

“That’s how I came up with creating a gold leaf-covered KitKat,” he said. Before long, the chocolate wafer bars were on sale in Tokyo for about $18. “They were like an edible golden trophy.”

Maki’s creation joined a long, and ever growing, list of distinctive, fun or just plain weird KitKats found only in Japan. The country is a KitKat-lover’s paradise, with so many unique varieties--an estimated 300--that some travelers visit Japan just to try them.

Many flavors are alien to the American palate, and they go far beyond Japanese staples--such as sake, wasabi and green tea--and into uncharted territory: “French salt,” “college tater” and “Muscat of Alexandria.”

The 40-year-old Maki, like a Japanese Willy Wonka, has developed several varieties, such as Iwaizumi Yogurt. “It may seem as if we just want to develop weird flavors for Japanese consumers,” he said. “But the concept is really to diversify.”

The candy with the European pedigree went on to conquer Japan thanks to constant invention--blueberry cheesecake, cherry blossom and melon--and a linguistic coincidence that makes KitKats here a harbinger of good luck.

KitKat’s history dates to the United Kingdom in 1935, when the York-based confectionery company Rowntree introduced the bar--originally called “Rowntree’s Chocolate Crisp”--as the perfect complement to a working man’s cup of tea. In 1937, the snack was renamed “Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp.”

In the 1950s, the bar arrived in Canada, South Africa, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand; in 1973, it finally made it to Japan. (The Swiss food and beverage giant Nestle acquired Rowntree in 1988. Eventually, Kit Kat became KitKat, and it is now sold in more than 100 countries. It is licensed by Hershey’s in the United States.)

Yet the story of how Japan made the snacking staple entirely its own begins in 1990, in Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost main island, known for its skiing, hot springs and beer. KitKat’s marketing team believed the island’s souvenir shops--in fact, souvenir shops nationwide--could stand to diversify their snack offerings.

“Wherever you went, you could only find rice cakes,” said Takuya Hiramatsu, a spokesman for Nestle Japan. “But people got kind of bored with traditional rice cakes.”

The company introduced a strawberry-flavored KitKat exclusively in Hokkaido--and after it took off, tried more limited-edition varieties. The more they introduced, the more popular the bars became. The KitKat makers leveraged local products into exotic flavors.

In time, exotic and strange KitKats began appearing all over, including on Honshu, the nation’s largest island. There, in Shizuoka prefecture, the candy-makers offered Tamaruya-Honten brand wasabi KitKats; in the Kanto region, adzuki bean sandwich KitKats; in Hiroshima, KitKats flavored like momiji manju, a locally produced pastry made of rice and buckwheat.

“I lived in Hiroshima when I was young,” Maki said. “So I knew people in Hiroshima love momiji manju so much--that it’s a soul food. I wanted to develop a business with that.”

The snacks live up to their packaging in bold, bright colors. Citrus flavors have a sharp, acidic twang; “matcha green tea” has bitter overtones; “Shinshu apple” tastes a bit like cider. The wasabi variety tames the heat in favor of flavor.

Nestle gives several reasons for KitKat’s success in Japan. Giving sweets as gifts is a national custom, and the country has deep pride in its local culinary traditions and industries.

Not least, the chocolate bar’s English name is a cognate--it sounds like kitto kattsu, which means “you will surely win,” a sort of good luck blessing. Nestle leveraged the association into huge sales. In 2009, the company created “KitKat Mail,” a partnership with Japan’s postal service that allowed students to send KitKats as good luck charms before the country’s high-pressure January university entrance examination. Some KitKat wrappers contain blank spaces for students to scribble in heartwarming messages.

In March 2011, after an earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster devastated a swath of Japan’s Pacific coast, people sent KitKats to the region, appending the message: kitto fukkyu kanau, or, “you’ll surely recover.”

Nestle says KitKat sales in Japan have risen 50% between 2010 and 2016, and this August the company opened its first new manufacturing plant in Japan in 26 years to keep up with local demand. The company develops 20 new flavors every year, and replaces flavors on convenience store shelves every two months. “That’s how the cycle has been ever since strawberry,” Maki said.

This year, a new KitKat specialty store in Tokyo’s ritzy Ginza district--called Chocolatory--established the chocolate bar as a premium brand. Chocolatory has sold “orange cocktail noir” and “Sakura green tea,” containing cherry leaf extract.

The store, which also sold Maki’s gold leaf bars, once offered a limited-edition that was distinctively Japanese--sushi KitKats. No tuna, no mackerel. Just fun-sized bars with KitKats (pumpkin pudding, Hokkaido melon, raspberry) laid on puffed rice and wrapped in seaweed.

Are you looking for a great idea for party favors for your next celebration? How about covering chocolate bars with wrappers customized for your occasion?  You can even make them yourself.  They're cheap, easy and appeal to all age groups. Besides, everyone loves candy.  Here's some simple ways to create these festive treats.

Wrapping paper

You don't have to be crafty, if you want to make these yourself.  An easy way to make candy bar wrappers is to simply cover the bars with gift wrap.  This material is great because it's thin enough to mold around your chocolate. Plus, it's available in festive prints, like balloons for a birthday or hearts for a wedding.

Use the rolls and not the folded sheets of paper, to avoid creases where you don't want them.  Choose quality paper. Dollar store wraps may be cheap, but can easily tear.  It's better to pick something a little stronger, even if it costs more.

Next, measure and cut out your candy bar wrappers from the paper.  If you're covering regular 1.55 ounce Hershey bars, for example, you will need to cut pieces that are 5.25 inches by 5.5 inches. Then all that's left to do is to place the chocolate face down on top of the unprinted side of the gift wrap and pull both sides of the paper to the center of the treat.  Use double stick tape or a glue stick to hold in place.

If you want to personalize these even 호스트바  further, you can print out a message on paper.  Use fancy fonts in complimentary colors.  Cut out your text with regular, scallop or other decorative edge scissors. Then use a glue stick to adhere to the top of your completed bars.  Or, you can set up your personalization in your label software on your computer and print it on inkjet peel and stick labels.  Also, check the scrapbooking section of your local craft store for adhesive backed tags and journaling blanks that you can write on and attach to your treats.

If you want something that looks a little more polished, you can find websites that offer free printable candy bar wrappers or templates.  Try looking for these on your favorite search engine.  You'll be surprised how many nice people are giving these away. They're available in many sizes to fit different chocolate treats.  You may have to hunt a little to find something close to what you want, but most of the work has already been done for you.

You will find two types of freebies.  First, there are the printable designs.  With these, all you have to do is print them directly from your web browser.  Then cut up, wrap and glue.  The other type are templates that you download.  These are generally set up for specific programs, such as Microsoft Word.  After you save it to your computer, you open the template in the corresponding program.  You can then edit it, if you want.

Some extra tips

If you will be making a lot of these party favors, you may want to consider investing in an inexpensive paper trimmer.  It will make all that cutting go faster and your cuts will be straight.

Another thing to keep in mind is that a lot of popular commercial candy bars are now packaged with plastic wrappers that are crimped at the edges.  They no longer have the foil covering underneath.  So, if you like the look of the old-fashioned chocolate bar with foil peaking out of the edge, you can still achieve it.  First, tape down the crimped edges, so they don't poke through.  And cover the whole thing with either thin aluminum or confectionery foil (found online).
