Road to Councours de Machines 2021 🇫🇷 Flow in my previous post. I've had this crazy idea of concept MTB, a proto that will be only one and will never do similar again. Yes, I will not for sure. Encouraged by that I've decided to cut out the top tube so I could make.it more attractive. But my experience with composites are "0" and that could be fatal. So I've supplied some carbon tubes, prepped the frame and I've even had the entire frame set galvanized so the contrast would be radical. Like the mtb's in the 90's alloy and carbon. So imagine, literally weeks of work because I was making this at nights, like almost wasted every day and weekends. I've approached the carbon assembly. Working with epoxy made it even worse. Omg, i must laugh thinking of it. Adhesive everywhere! Anyway, I've glued all in and let it dry over a day and something. It looked awesome, I was totally winning! Well.. I've assembled, fork cockpit, wheels cranks to see how it feels and it just happened. The frame was twisting and I knew top tube is the key. I've used too thin wall or just a crap tubes, I can't tell. I don't even dig for why that happened! No carbon no.. I've cut the frame for bits again and fixed top tube with Steel one.... Arko Bici mtb for Concour de Machines 2021. I had a technical Jury on Friday morning so I'll put this post like before the Jury. Frame is entirely hand made. Done in four steps. First the frame and fork is done, fork blades and the seat tube cut out, curved lugs (bilam) bonding CF and painting. seat tube combined with carbon fiber, OD 32mm 2mm wall thickness, I made a thin shim for 27,2mm dropper seat post. Painting silver base, candy yellow top and I've used ceramic varnish to cover. Multicolor bits on top tube painted manually by the bike's owner, my wife:) Internal routing for brake hose, wire hose for dropper post and I've applied first time fully internal light wires. I used SH XT Dyno hub, wire enters right blade, goes up to fork crown, there's 2pairs of connectors for the front and rear part. Then the wire goes thru the hole in tapered steerer (rubber grommet) enters the down tube (extra large vent hole) thru bottom bracket into the left chainstay and exit at the dropout where's guided to the rear light. I've made four racks just for this event. • Fork side bag holders, front bag support and rear utility, stove, canister and pump carrier. All worked well. No damages, no bents. Canister 3.3L. There are extra light as I've used 6× 1.0mm for the main arch and 6×0,5mm stainless tube for reinforcements of the racks. Glass blasted and buffed. • Note the custom computer holder, it weighs nothing, same as rear light holder. I've made stainless tool bottle cage too. • The cf stem spacer. It's made from failed seat tube because I had to cut it out After the cf top tube failure (See earlier post) There are used reused parts: • Titanium stem and handlebars - clamp 25.4mm (got them on my bike 10y ago) handlebars extended since from 580mm to 680mm with bonded inserts (end cuts from seat stays 19mm) and the ends from old alloy handlebars to epoxy bond with the bars. Ti stem. ...................
