10– Isyour character street-smart, book-smart, intelligent, intellectual,slow-witted?

Natis a very clever mix between street-smart and book-smart; she was aloud child, yes, and when she was on Earth visiting her Aunt Rebecca(when Anderson was away on assignments, she’d stay with his sisterin London) she often ‘asked’ to go to the parks to play withother children. I say ‘asked’ because Natalie doesn’t reallyask…more like manipulates you into say yes without you ever realising it.She’s even more confident on the streets due to those six months onOmega when she was in her twenties – Aria taught her a lot, and notall of it was in the bedroom. But a lot of people see Nat as‘slow-witted’ due to her being a marine – but it wasn’t hermuscles that got her out of Elysium with only a few scars on her bodyto show for it. She can come up with plans in half the time it’dtake others, and she’s got a keen diplomatic mind as well – Natknows how to play political games very well. I wouldn’t say she’s‘intellectual’ as Nat may be smart but she doesn’t like ‘smartthings’, like chess and stuff. She’d take Battleships and4-In-A-Row over a Sudoku any day.

11– How do they see themselves: as smart, as intelligent, uneducated?

Nataliewould neversee herself as a ‘genius’ or anything, though she really is one.She thinks that Tali, Mordin and Kaidan are the ‘geniuses’because they can createa lot of the tech that she can only use.She can use it really, really well and mod it to hell but Nat’sterrible when it comes to actually creating things. She has unendingrespect for those that can create technological feats. Natsees herself as a dark horse; people think she’s just a ‘dumbmarine’ so she plays up to that image until it suits her needs notto. Sparatus absolutely hated Natalie when she was first made aSpectre (mainly because she kept hanging up on the Council whenevershe had the chance) but when they actually get the time to talk inME3 they discover that they get along quite well. Nat sees herself asa smart, capable woman who could destroy anything and anyone in herway if she chose to – she just doesn’t like it when other peoplesee that. She was originally an Infiltrator for a reason.

12– How does their education and intelligence – or lack thereof –reflect in their speech pattern, vocabulary and pronunciations?

Nataliespeaks with a neutral tone that many people loathe – it’s hard totell what she means when everything she says sounds the same – butwhen she relaxes, her accent slips. There’s a faint mix of anEnglish and American accent – her childhood spent in London vs. herteens spent on Arcturus Station – and I’ve always headcanon’dthat Anderson has a British accent too that he hides. (I’m English…let me have more voices like mine in my video games…) and shespeaks with a vocabulary that definitely shows off the many privateschools and tutors she had. She moved around a lot, due to herfather, but she once spent around three years in London with her Auntwhen her father was on a long, dangerous assignment that she couldn’taccompany him on. During that time, she attended St. Catherine’sSchool for Girls, an incredibly posh place with a tuition that costsmore than my house. She speaks in the ‘proper’ way but her yearsas an N7 has given her a less ‘strict’ way of speaking.

26– What does your character’s home look like? Personal taste?Clothing? Hair? Appearance?

Thatreally depends on the timeframe.

Natin ME1 is obsessed to the death about the ‘rules’, and Alliancerules state that the CO’s quarters must be spotless.Her hair is expertly pulled into a bun, not a single strand astray,and even her civilian clothing resembles a uniform with how…simple, it is. Over the time she’s the CO of the Normandy, Nataliebecomes less focused on making sure the rules are enforced – acertain Sentinel L2 biotic might be partly responsible for that but Icouldn’tsay – and more about making sure that people are happy aboard hership, though if they’re slacking she willdiscipline them.

Me2’sNat is… chaotic. After she’s brought back by Cerberus, Nat losesthe ‘spark’ that made her such a good CO andsuch a good friend – if she died again, Cerberus will just bringher back. It doesn’t matterwhat she wants, or what she does,because she’s just there to make sure other people get theirwishes. Nat, at the beginning of 2, is a very hollowperson.

Jack,surprisingly, is the one who pulls her out of her funk, not longbefore the Collector ship. She takes Shepard to Illium, where theyfind this nice little tattoo parlour/hairdressers. She originallywants Nat to get a tattoo – which Nat vetoes because NEEDLES????NEAR HER SKIN???? NO– but they agree on dying her hair a nice crimson red shade. ThenNat gets a few piercings, puts a little more make-up on each morning,and replaces all of her clothes with Cerberus logos on with civvies –leather jackets, jeans, awesomeboots with heels, loads of stuff that helps the SR-2 feel like homemore than the SR-1 ever did. She makes her cabin her actual bedroomand customises other parts of the ship, too. This inspires the othermembers of the crew and by the time the IFF is activated, the SR-2 islike a renovated house. This gives Nat confidence because it feelslike, for the first time, that she’d actively losesomething personally if she died. The galaxy wouldn’t just lose itsCommander – the crew of the Normandy SR-2 would lose their friend.

It’spretty much the same throughout ME3 and it only changes again aftershe retires post-War. She and Kaidan decide that their done withstarships and settle on Elysium, because Grissom Academy is movedthere after the war so the kids have a better upbringing and it canfunction like an actual school so they can live with their parentsand spend time with friends doing normal teenage stuff all withoutliving on a cold space station. The reason that they live there isbecause Kahlee asks Kaidan to help with the Ascension Project andsince Kaidan feels reallystronglyabout kids learning how to use their biotics, he and Nat agree to gotogether. Plus, at that point they’ve got two kids themselves(Wolfie and Maddie), one of whom is already confirmed to be a biotic(Wolfie), and Natalie loves Elysium even if she did have to fight offa hundred thousand batarians the last time she was there. Nat’sdad, Anderson, lives there too with Kahlee (Kaidan’s mom movesthere when she gets too old for the long flights between Earth andElysium), so the family is pretty close which is always good.

27– How do they relate to their appearance? How do they wear theirclothing? Style? Quality?

One:Natalie doesn’t buy cheap knock-offs. The quality of their clothesis always the highest possible. Her style is… she doesn’t wearskirts, atall,but more combat boots and jeans. Always. She’s a verydown-to-earth, one-of-the-people woman, so she doesn’t wear loadsof jewellery and heavy make-up. Less is more, for Natalie. At the endof ME2, when Nat’s trying to ‘seduce’ Kaidan into stayingwithin her presence for more than fifteen minutes without A) Yelling,B) Storming off, C) Crying or D) All three, she dresses a bit moreraunchily (bare midriff, ample cleavage, subtle things that forNatalie are reallyout there but Miranda sworethey’d work)but usually she’s very modest. She’s more likely to buya new top then repair it if it gets a hole.
