Honda Civic Si, 1984. The third generation Civic saw the introduction of a true high-performance variant for the first time with the fuel-injected 118hp 1.6 litre DOHC ZC1 engine (designated D16A1 in Europe). Sold principally as a hatchback (identifiable by a bonnet bulge to accommodate the DOHC engine), for the Japanese market the Si was also available as a 4-door sedan. These are extremely rare

It’s fair to say that nobody was quite sure how American customers would react to luxury cars from Japan in January of 1985, the month Honda introduced its dealers to a pair of new luxury Hondas. It seems strange now, but in 1985 many U.S. consumers still associated Japanese cars with cheapness - the few attempts at upmarket cars (Datsun 810, Toyota Cressida) had largely gone wanting. Honda’s approach would be different. The new cars would wear a new name (Acura), be sold at stand-alone stores, and have a huge marketing campaign of their own. A few dealers balked at having to create a new building, but having had waiting lists for Hondas in the early 80s, they knew they could sell the cars. The only part they were skeptical about? The smaller, cheaper car ($10-13K) - the Honda Quint Integra, then a new car for the Honda Verno network in Japan. - The Acura dealer network would be limited in size and quantities of cars - why not just focus on the big $18-20K flagship, which became the original Acura Legend? Their skepticism was misplaced. The 60 original Acura dealers sold every one they could stock. The original Acura Integra (the Quint part was dropped) became a massive hit and it’s lower price point (starting just below the high-spec Honda Accord LXi) created thousands of young, long-term Acura buyers. At its heart was the free-revving, 112-118hp DOHC 16V D16A1 1.6L four mated to a 5M or a 4A. The driving experience was somewhat like a VW GTI or a Prelude, and the car was meant to slot between GTIs and lower-end E30 BMWs. The styling was clearly a Honda family product - but it wore no badge on the front. Only a subtle “Acura” script on the hatch told you the brand, but a big “INTEGRA” script certainly told you the model. - Inside it was black or grey and very sober - hardly the picture of “luxury” but perfectly in tune with Yuppies looking for a sporty car that wouldn’t let them down. The car quickly attracted tuner attention too - particularly in SoCal. In total, more than 217,000 Mk1 Integras flew off the showroom floor until the Mk2 debuted in the fall of 1989. By that time, Acuras huge success had validated plans for its two rivals - Lexus and Infiniti. https://www.instagram.com/p/B7TyuQvFX_w/?igshid=1shpymhzav4uk

For the non french speaking enthusiats:
I was lucky enough to buy in early 2017 my "dream car", the Honda CRX.
My story began with a chance encounter one evening in May 2014. At the time I was interning in a small garage in my city as part of my studies in automotive mechanics. One evening, when I got home, I saw a car parked in the parking lot in front of the garage, it was half night and I did not know the whole car model, I just knew it was a Honda . Intrigued, I sent a picture to a friend of the time, far more fan of Nippon cars than I, who answered me quite excited, that I had in front of me a Honda CRX VTEC.
I obviously knew Honda, not even their glorious past as a motorist in Formula 1 at the time of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, but I still didn't know the sporting face of Honda, which nowadays , Apart from the Civic "Type R" range, almost no longer exists.
I got informed about this car on which I knew nothing, but whose lines and character would change my vision of the automobile.
Based on the Civic 4th generation model, it is a sportier version of the Civic, with more vivid lines, and available in France under two engines: 1.6 130hp without a VTEC system (D16A1 engine) and then, by a request From the customers heard by Honda, a phase 2, this opening of the VTEC variable distribution system, a motor unit developing this time 150hp, and aesthetic and technical improvements compared to the first phase, I'll talk about it later.
3 years later, randomly visiting the garage for a repair on my first car, my driving license obtained meanwhile, I crossed the owner of this CRX crossed in 2014. We begin to discuss everything and nothing Then he goes away and me too. I had at that time the 1997 Civic, my first car and first Honda. I do not know when looking for CRX for lack of money when choosing the first car, but in the meantime I had become a real fan of Honda, and especially of CRX.
We can discuss the time on the motivation about our passion for a brand or a car, the history of the brand through time, vision of its engineers and designers, reliability recognized unanimity, etc. Let's say that in my case it's a little for each of the reasons why I am a Honda enthusiast. The history of the brand, from the small motorcycle factory in post-war Japan to the legendary championship winner in formula 1, the work of engineers of the time to design atmospheric engines with incredible performance & reliability, There's a lot more examples.
I later picked up the number of this person I met, who is a friend of my former boss, and I called him back simply asking if I could discuss the car with him one day, saw him just a week after.
We were in early September, and after this discussion with the former owner and a tour (my first in CRX), I decided to buy it. I asked him to let me until December for saving the money, the deal was done.
Since January, precisely since January 6, 2017, I am the owner of a Honda CRX VTEC of 1992.
Here a picture from the first time i saw the car at the garage:
