It looks like US fans will be getting an officially-licensed Lupin III tabletop role-playing game courtesy of Magnetic Press. The TTRPG will be making use of the Magnetic Variant (D6MV) ruleset, which is built upon the classic D6 System made popular by West End Games's Star Wars and Ghostbusters TTRPGs.

Magnetic will also be publishing a coffee table book that outlines the franchise's birth and evolution over the past 50 years, and includes a near-encyclopedic look at the central characters and supporting cast throughout the series, as well as various media adaptations and a gallery of artwork certain to entertain fans both old and new.

Join Lupin the Third for Anniversary Capers in Coffee Table Book and Tabletop RPG

  This October, the animated adaptation of Monkey Punch's Lupin the Third turns 50. Lots of celebrations are already underway, and now TMS Entertainment is adding two more: a coffee table book and a tabletop RPG.

  The books will be published through a partnership with TMS and Magnetic Press, publisher of graphic novel and art books. Magnetic Press publisher and founder Mike Kennedy says he's a lifelong anime fan, and looks forward to being a part of the festivities:

  "The charm, wit, and thrills of that entire series, from LUPIN THE 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro to the latest Lupin III: The First, have transcended the test of time to become an evergreen of fun entertainment. We’re excited to not only capture that storied history in a beautiful Anniversary Coffee Table book, but to offer a doorway into that universe through a new tabletop RPG"

    TMS Entertainment USA Senior VP Masami Tokunaga is just as excited:

  "Having grown up with the series, I cannot begin to describe how incredibly exciting it has been to have watched the LUPIN THE 3rd universe expand and evolve throughout the years. I am greatly looking forward to the release of these new offerings from Magnetic Press, as they will provide fans the ability to experience Lupin in a capacity like never before; I cannot think of a better way to celebrate this momentous anniversary."

  The coffee table book will cover the entirety of TMS Entertainment's adaptation of the series from the beginning — every episode, special, and film — as well as a "near-encyclopedic" look at the franchise's lead and supporting cast. There will also be coverage of multimedia adaptations, plus a gallery of artwork.

  Then, join the chase in a tabletop game that will send globetrotting players in search of treasure of their own. The game is built on Magnetic Press's D6MV system, a variant of West End Games's D6 System (used for Star Wars, Ghostbusters, and other tie-in games in the past). The D6MV system "rewinds" and "streamlines" West End Games's format, and is the system on which Magnetic Press's own Carbon Grey dieselpunk TTRPG will run. The "open-world quest system" will feature rewards and challenges for players. More information will be available in October.

    Lupin the Third premiered in 1971, adapting Monkey Punch's heist manga for the small screen. Since then it's received six TV series (five numbered series plus The Woman Called Fujiko Mine), multiple TV specials and films, video games, live-action films, theme park attractions, and more. A new TV series, Lupin the Third PART 6, will also be premiering as part of the celebrations.
