Yuka Nagaoka and Sumitada Moriguchi competed unopposed.

Shoma Uno won his sixth national title. Yuma Kagiyama won the free skate and came up to win the silver. Sota Yamamoto won the bronze.

osomatsu-san headcanons 2: favorite anime edition

Osomatsu: Pop Team Epic. He likes the random-ass sense of humor and he’s a memelord. He understands this fully. Alternatively, he’s also a huge fan of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, but that’s a given, honestly. Panty is his waifu. The ideal woman, really. Basically most gag animes catch his interest, but if he finds a really interesting shonen he’ll get into it. (Also ecchi, but you know.)

Karamatsu: He’ll basically watch anything listed in the romance genre, but he also likes magical girls because let’s face it, this man probably saw Tuxedo Mask once and said ‘What an icon. He’s everything I should aspire to be.’ And that ruined him. But he probably likes things like Junjou Romantica, Romeo x Juliet, Yuri on Ice (Viktor is also a role model), etc. He also likes Gurren Lagann purely because Kamina is an icon. And Space Dandy. Lord help them all the time he saw Space Dandy.  (They all watched that one together with a feeling of dread because Kara had stars in his eyes seeing Dandy. Oso called Meow ‘Cat-Choro’ and Ichimatsu immediately got up and left the room mostly because he was right. Choro and his goddamn canon fursona.)

Choromatsu: Probably the animes that seem most cerebral like Evangelion, or at least that’s what he’ll tell you. He’s more into unwanted harem shows and classic anime. Tenchi Muyo is a good one. As is Urusei Yatsura, basically anything by Rumiko Takahashi. However, he’ll watch things all over the map. Otaku boy is otaku. His waifus are equally all over the map but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t have a preference for Rei Ayanami or Lum. Also, idol shows. 

Ichimatsu: Another one who doesn’t entirely tell the truth about his anime prefs, even if they’re obvious. He’ll say he likes things like Devilman Crybaby, and while that’s true (he understood the subtle undertext and references more than Choro did, not that he’ll speak up to point it out, boy is smarter than he seems), he’s more into...cat based anime. As you could expect. My Roommate Is A Cat and Nyanpire are two favorites. Ichigo from Tokyo Mew Mew is prime waifu material. (As is Stocking from Panty and Stocking.) He also put on Cat Soup once during family movie night. Everyone expected something cute. He found it hilarious when that was so very wrong.

Jyushimatsu: He also loves gag anime! But he’s very much into the weirder ones.  Bobobo is a show he understood perfectly well, for one. He’s the most likely to be seen watching something dumb with Osomatsu with them both laughing their asses off. Also, sports anime. He follows Daiya No Ace and Big Windup religiously. He’s not allowed to watch Dangan Ronpa for some reason  unknown to him but Leon Kuwata is husbando. He also likes shonen series. They’re exciting! He’s also followed One Piece pretty well and identifies with Luffy. 

Todomatsu: The last one to wholly lie about his anime preferences, he’ll say that he likes mature anime. You know. Horror stuff, realism-based shows, what actual adults watch. This is a lie, he looks up plot summaries online and acts like he knows based on that. In truth, he leans towards more cute sincere magical girl shows and slice-of-life anime. He got duped by Madoka Magica when it first came out and he cried. Slice-of-life anime relaxes him, tho. It’s just cute girls doing cute things and he can relax with that. He also really digs Love Live. He identifies with Nico. It’s Him.

Pendant six mois, elle a préparé ce grand voyage au Japon. Consigné méticuleusement chaque étape. Elle en rêve tellement depuis un premier séjour à Tokyo en 2013. Elle s'est prise de passion pour ce pays, où elle perçoit «du respect, du raffinement, de la sérénité et du calme», selon son frère Damien. Depuis trois ans, elle apprend le japonais. Elle commence à l'écrire. Cette fois, elle arpentera le pays profond.

Premier arrêt: Nikko! Inscrit au patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco, son complexe de sanctuaires Tôshô-gu, au milieu d'une sublime forêt, est l'étape obligée d'un voyage sérieux dans l'Archipel. Comme une Japonaise le ferait, elle apporte des cadeaux à ses hôtes. Pour les aubergistes de sa première étape, un pot de miel et un objet en forme de tortue, en clin d'œil à son enseigne: le Turtle Inn. C'est là qu'elle a dormi le 28 juillet.

Le lendemain, Tiphaine Véron s'est volatilisée. Cette auxiliaire de vie scolaire de 36 ans, originaire de Poitiers, n'a plus donné signe de vie depuis ce matin-là, plongeant dans l'incrédulité et le désespoir tous ceux qui sont partis à sa recherche. Une armada de proches, policiers, secouristes, journalistes, diplomates, badauds français et japonais, aujourd'hui aussi désemparée qu'aux premières heures. L'affaire est suivie jusqu'à l'Élysée. «On ne peut rien privilégier, puisqu'on ne trouve rien», confie un diplomate dépité, au diapason d'une police locale interdite. Jamais personne n'a disparu sans laisser de traces dans la région.

Un lieu de villégiature familial

Le soir de son arrivée au Turtle Inn, Tiphaine discute avec deux touristes français. Au petit déjeuner du lendemain, elle croise deux autres couples, français et allemand. Elle leur énumère les lieux qu'elle compte visiter, attractions habituelles pour une touriste ordinaire. L'aubergiste affirme qu'elle a quitté l'hôtel à 10 heures, laissant son passeport et sa valise dans sa chambre. Selon une source proche de l'enquête, la géolocalisation de son téléphone cesse en milieu de matinée, aux alentours de l'hôtel. L'aubergiste, qui ne la voit pas rentrer le soir et qui l'attend pour son check-out, prévient les autorités le lendemain. L'ambassade, prévenue le 30 juillet, alerte la famille le jour suivant.

Drôle d'endroit pour une disparition. Nikko est un lieu de villégiature familial. Contrairement à d'autres forêts du pays, celle-là n'est pas hantée par les suicides ou les faits divers sordides. On déplore peu d'accidents dans cette nature abandonnée aux bons soins des dieux, des familles et des touristes, où l'odeur de l'encens le dispute à celle des pins. Et Tiphaine, davantage venue pour la culture que la nature, ne s'est probablement pas écartée des sentiers battus. Mais ses proches pressentent immédiatement le pire.

Ses frères Damien et Stanislas, sa sœur Sybille ne tergiversent pas. Ils bouclent leurs valises pour ce pays si loin d'eux, et si proche de Tiphaine. Car il faut agir vite. Tiphaine est épileptique. Étrange maladie, survenue on ne sait comment lorsqu'elle faisait ses études, et qui l'oblige à une vie disciplinée écartant l'hypothèse d'une disparition volontaire. «Sa maladie lui interdisait d'avoir une vie mystérieuse», explique sa mère, Anne Désert. «On ne peut concevoir qu'elle ait disparu sur un coup de tête», confirme Sybille Véron.

Les policiers passent au peigne fin deux kilomètres de territoire autour des sites que Tiphaine avait prévu de visiter. Visionnent des milliers d'heures d'images enregistrées par les 41 caméras qui filment les abords du complexe des temples et des sanctuaires. Multiplient les enquêtes de voisinage. Interrogent les entreprises actives dans les environs: livreurs, employés des postes…

Les habitants s'interrogent les uns les autres. Mais ces recherches ne donnent rien. Police et famille distribuent des appels à témoin qui provoquent 80 appels téléphoniques, épluchés un à un: rien. Le 10 août, sur la base d'un signalement, soixante policiers et pompiers assistés de chiens, survolés par des drones et un hélicoptère, battent une partie du mont Nakimushi, où une Occidentale a été aperçue par un randonneur: rien.

De fortes intempéries la veille de sa disparition

La police interroge aussi Tokyo Electric, l'opérateur qui exploite les barrages de la rivière Daiya, dont les eaux serpentent à travers la forêt. La veille de sa disparition, Nikko avait essuyé des précipitations records, rendant le sol glissant. «Quand il a plu, les bords de la rivière sont traîtres», assure Itami Takahashi, un riverain. Une chute dans ses eaux pourrait expliquer l'absence de corps. Or Tiphaine était probablement fatiguée le jour de sa disparition.

Elle avait débarqué en décalage horaire, dans l'étouffant été nippon, particulièrement chaud et humide cette année. Des conditions physiquement éprouvantes, rendant possible une crise d'épilepsie intempestive. «Tiphaine fait une crise convulsive par an. Ses crises partielles, très brèves, sont beaucoup plus fréquentes, mais en général elle a le réflexe de se préserver quand elles arrivent», précise son frère Damien. Si elle était tombée, le corps aurait pu être emporté par les eaux gonflées de pluie, au débit exceptionnel ce jour-là ; enfin passer les barrages en aval - jusqu'à la mer, à 400 kilomètres de là? Les recherches par hélicoptère, dans ce secteur, ne donnent rien non plus.

Devant le désarroi des Véron, très impliqués dans les recherches, les Japonais font montre de leur délicatesse coutumière. Certains déposent à leur hôtel des enveloppes d'argent à leur attention. L'un d'eux héberge la famille pendant quelques jours. Au pied des appels à témoin placardés partout dans Nikko, des anonymes déposent des grues en pliage origami, en guise d'ex-voto. D'autres arpentent à leur tour les environs dans l'espoir de trouver quelque chose. «À chaque fois que nous distribuons des appels à témoins, les commerçants les affichent spontanément en vitrine», se félicite Stanislas Véron.

Par les réseaux sociaux, les Japonais multiplient les messages de soutien et d'encouragement - entre lesquels se faufilent parfois charlatans, voyants et bons samaritains, allumant des contre-feux, ranimant de faux espoirs. Un jour, sur un parking, un homme particulièrement agité interpelle la famille, prétendant que son métier consiste à «rechercher ou tuer des gens» et qu'il «sait quelque chose!». Avant de disparaître.

La police sous les feux des projecteurs

Les polices française et japonaise, via Interpol, entament une coopération. L'ambassadeur et le consul se rendent sur place, essayant de ramener la sérénité dans un climat tendu. Car la police de Nikko et la famille sont à cran. Non seulement les recherches ne donnent rien, mais elles se font sous l'éclairage des médias locaux, nationaux et bientôt internationaux. Un niveau de transparence que ne requièrent d'ordinaire pas les Japonais - pas même les proches des disparus, qui font entière confiance à leur police. Cette dernière, peu habituée à se voir exiger des comptes, se cabre devant cette mise en lumière.

L'affaire prend un tour politico-diplomatique quand, en désespoir de cause, Anne Désert écrit le 7 août à Emmanuel Macron une lettre ouverte dans laquelle elle estime que «tous les moyens ne sont pas mis en œuvre» pour retrouver sa fille. Les policiers de Nikko de leur côté estiment que leur engagement n'est pas mesuré à sa juste valeur, au surplus par des étrangers pour qui ils déploient des moyens exceptionnels. «Ce cas leur tient très à cœur, explique une personne impliquée dans la collaboration entre Français et Japonais. Ils ne l'ont pas négligé.»

Un observateur français mandaté sur place conclura que la police japonaise agit comme agirait la française en pareil cas. Mais si les policiers locaux ne comptent pas leurs heures et déploient des moyens hors du commun, ils évoluent dans un climat de sécurité exceptionnelle (le Japon est une des sociétés modernes les plus sûres au monde) ; un contexte qui rend la police japonaise d'ordinaire moins équipée pour suivre la piste criminelle, certes très peu probable, que celle de l'accident.

La famille mène ses propres recherches

De leur côté, les Véron mènent, avec les moyens du bord, leurs propres recherches. Les frères et sœur, puis la mère, arrivée le 20 août, scrutent ensemble les ombres de la forêt de Nikko, les eaux bleuâtres de la rivière Daiya. À la recherche d'un indice. Chaque bruit de sirène qui troue le ronronnement de la paisible circulation dans Nikko les fait sursauter. «Chaque fois, je me demande si c'est pour ma sœur», explique Sybille. Un jour, Damien Véron aperçoit au fond de l'eau un objet blanc qui pourrait être l'étui du téléphone de sa sœur. Il prévient la police et, sans attendre, confectionne une gaffe de fortune avec une branche au bout de laquelle il attache une caméra étanche pour le filmer. La police sortira l'objet de l'eau deux jours plus tard: une petite bouillotte… Nouvelle impasse. Nouveau rien.

Stanislas, Damien, Sybille et Anne sont rentrés dimanche «prendre des forces et préparer la suite». La police japonaise assure continuer ses recherches. À Poitiers, la rentrée scolaire commencera lundi. Pour les enfants handicapés dont s'occupait Tiphaine, aussi. Mais sans elle.

Would you be able to sub any "My Hero Academia" events? I know Yuki Kaji is in the show, but he isn't always at all the events. 2. Which other seiyuu do you like? 3. Is there any way that people like me (who aren't fluent in Japanese) can help? (preferably not money-wise because I'm broke)

Hey there! Thanks for dropping by! Heads up: I can be pretty long-winded when I start talking so don’t worry about reading everything if you can’t be bothered to 😂

1. As far as I’m concerned, there haven’t been any HeroAca events recorded in a DVD, but if you’re referring to the Live Broadcasts (NICO/LINE) and radio episodes, I’ve only listened to the 2 radio episodes (in which Kaji went as guest), plus some random episodes to hear the backstory of those really good episodes in the anime, and also the LINE LIVE broadcast (Todoroki: Origin - Before and After Cast Talk). To be honest, although I would love to sub all of them, unfortunately because I’m still a high school exam student, it can be pretty hard to make the time for it 😓 (I pray every day to become more efficient) But if there’s a specific cut you would like to share I’d be more than happy to work on it!

2. Although this may not sound convincing if you’ve seen my channel‘s bias towards Kaji 😅 but I actually like and respect a lot of seiyuus. I usually get attracted to a seiyuu for either of the three following qualities: voice acting, voice, or personality. In terms of voice acting, it’s simply if their acting had left an impression on me. An example of a seiyuu that I like purely for her acting is Hayami Saori. She’s the second name I search up for after Kaji when choosing seasonal animes to watch. I could go on forever but to sum up why - it’s because I love her screams. Next, when it comes to voice, it’s pretty straightforward, just whoever’s voice sounds pleasant. In this case I’m referring to those whose acting doesn’t necessarily have to be good, but I‘d still love to listen to their voices just for the sound of it. A few who fall under this category are Kamiya Hiroshi, Sawashiro Miyuki and Natsuki Hanae. Don’t get me wrong, I love their acting, but my point is that I would listen to their voices regardlessly. Thirdly, it’s about their personality. Though it’s not my place to say this, there are some seiyuus whose neither voice nor voice acting ever struck me. If there’s any reason why I still appreciate them, it’s because I’ve heard how much effort and thoughts they’ve put into shaping their characters. But surely these people who’ve put in this much effort will be rewarded. An example is… though I don’t want to offend anyone, it’s Suzuki Tatsuhisa. Honestly I didn’t like quite a few of his portrayal, err… one I can recall on the top of my head is Mishima from Daiya no Ace, I won’t go too much into why I didn’t like his voice for Mishima, but I absolutely believe that he was the best fit for roles like Ban (Nanatsu no Taizai) and Hiroomi (Kyoukai no Kanata). Through the things he says in radios and events, you can really see that he watches his characters very closely and pays attention to the smallest things he can do for the best of his characters. I guess my point is that as long as a seiyuu loves and treats their characters well, even if their voice isn’t appealing to a certain viewer, their emotion will definitely be reflected in their portrayal which will naturally be conveyed to the viewers. And… it’s needless to say that there are plenty of seiyuus who have more than one of the three qualities, but basically Kaji is my favourite cause he happens to match what I was looking for in all three aspects. But I’m guessing that the reason why you’re asking this is because you want to know what kind of content I could be subbing? If that‘s the case I sincerely apologise for this long rant 😅 but I like any seiyuu that has some sort of relationship with Kaji. They could fall into any of the above categories, but I usually like to sub Kaji with either senpais who pamper/tease him (Miyano Mamoru/Kamiya Hiroshi/Ono Daisuke/Hayashibara Megumi/ Matsumoto Rica/Sakurai Takahiro/Fukuyama Jun/Suzuki Tatsuhisa), peers that he’s comfortable with (Terashima Takuma/Okamoto Nobuhiko/Maeno Tomoaki/Kimura Ryouhei/Yonaga Tsubasa/Sawashiro Miyuki/Inoue Marina/Takagaki Ayahi/Ono Yuuki/Nazuka Kaori), people he likes (Shimono Hiro/Hosoya Yoshimasa/Suzumura Kenichi/Morikubo Showtaro/Uchiyama Kouki), kouhais that look up to him/kouhais he dotes on (Shimazaki Nobunaga/Yamashita Daiki/Ishikawa Kaito/Kuno Misaki/Ogura Yui/Ishihara Kaori/Hanae Natsuki/Osaka Ryota) and I’m sure I’m still missing out on lots of names, but I also love (or want to see more of) his conversations with some of the people that showed signs of knowing him quite well but can still be pretty vague if they’re close to him (Nishiyama Koutarou/Kakihara Tetsuya/Uchida Maaya/Kayano Ai/Hanazawa Kana/Toyonaga Toshiyuki/Yuuki Aoi/Taketatsu Ayana/Yoshitsugu Matsuoka/Amamiya Sora/Sakura Ayane/Kobayashi Yusuke/Irino Miyu/Hayami Saori/Umehara Yuichiro/Tomatsu Haruka/Koshimizu Ami/Takahashi Rie/Ishikawa Yui). Erm.. the list could go on forever but I’ll stop here 😓

3. It could really be anything! My main reason for translating was just to share the love of seiyuus and to find more fellow overseas seiyuu fans. I don’t translate to take credit of the subbing so to be honest I don’t mind if people repost or reupload my subs so long as it exposes the awareness of seiyuus to a larger community in a positive way :))) I sincerely do believe that seiyuus deserve more recognition for the wonderful voices they bring to us after all. Other than that would be “monetary” but rather than for me, it would be great if we can all support the original event DVD sales (or even their photo books and radio DJCDs)! I just hope that one day they’ll make a contract with an official translating company to release the Eng subs officially. Oh right, we do have a seiyuu fansubbing group where quite a few of us seiyuu fansubbers gather together to plan for our translations. OH SHIT DID YOU START WATCHING GAIKING LODM DUDE. That shit is fucking excellent.

So far I’m kind of split on it, a couple of people have asked my impressions so far and now that I’m a decent ways into the series my impression hasn’t really changed yet. Usually I’d wait until half way before giving detailed impressions but I feel like doing one now for some reason, I’m about a third of the way through. The story’s pretty basic, pretty much your classic good guys vs. evil alien empire super robot story, with the twist that it’s taking place on the enemy’s homeworld rather than on Earth for the most part. That’s a neat idea that I don’t feel they leverage as well as they could, at least not yet. I’m hoping Darius as a setting becomes more interesting as the story progresses.

Character-wise, I feel like the good guys are quite good, if not amazing. Daiya is actually quite boring as a main character, for someone who’s basically been given this all-important role all of a sudden it kind of feels like he succeeds almost a little too easily. He kind of reminds me of prince Jojo from Galient, where you’ve got this very young character, younger than normal even, and he basically immediately starts duking it out with and beating the enemy’s elite. It’s a little more palatable here because there’s less pressure to be realistic, given that it’s a super robot series and not a Takahashi anime, but still. I do think that any weaknesses in characterisation on the protagonist’s side is balanced out by the Darius side, the enemy leaders are all pretty much your classic flamboyant weirdos from old series like Combattler, Great Mazinger, Jeeg, Voltes etc. Plus the little rivalry they have going between themselves is pretty good, you’ve got the flamboyant one, the hot-blooded one, the level-headed one, and they’re all trying to one-up each other. Noza is definitely my favourite, and he’s been entertaining the last few episodes I watched.

I feel like probably the biggest rift in the quality level of the series is its presentation. Gaiking itself was historically quite an unusual design, the skull it has for the torso used to give it some kind of odd proportions, and that’s fixed here without compromising the machine’s identity. I really love the array of attacks and abilities it has, and they’re all animated well for the most pat. I’m not quite as enthusiastic about the visuals for everything else though, I feel like the Daiku-Maryu is an antiquated design that could have done with some kind of revamp. The designs of the enemy warbeasts and mecha also feel kind of corny and tacky in the old 70s super robot sense, but not always in a good way. The series OP is really memorable, and the rest of the music is not. Most frustratingly, sometimes the animation is really high quality and then other times it’s dogshit. You sometimes notice this contradiction in the space of a single episode.

Still, it’s still early days, and there’s still enough to keep me watching it. I’m kind of expecting things to step up when the other two flame giants make their debut.
