some dallarmin i found on my phone before amanda took claim of the ship
written before i actually made it to season four based off vague knowledge i had of the storyline
timeline is nonexistent cuz sometimes i just write to write
* * *
being the new commander was nerve wracking for armin. he constantly felt like throwing up any second from all the pressure on him.
sure, he was smart—really smart—but he was still just a 19-year-old boy who hadn’t quite figured himself out yet. how could he lead a whole squad? how could he deal with technically being captain levi’s superior?
but one person made it easier to cope with. his beautiful starshine.
when all the eyes on him became too much, when he wanted to run away, her eyes would meet his and she would smile her beautiful smile and all his worries would melt away.
after a particularly stressful briefing, he found her already waiting in his room when he returned.
“hey, baby,” she greeted softly, holding out her hands for him.
he took them in his and she pulled him in, kissing him gently.
“you did great, sunshine,” she said, settling against his back as he turned and sat at the edge of his bed to remove his shoes. she slipped her arms around his waist and squeezed him tight. “i told you you would.”
he chuckled. “yeah, you did, didn’t you?”
she propped her chin on his shoulder, turning his face towards her with a gentle hand on his jaw.
“maybe someday you’ll see yourself the way i do,” she whispered, leaning her forehead against his.
“how’s that?” he asked, kissing the tip of her nose, to which she got flustered and buried her face in his shoulder, giggling.
she quickly composed herself, but her eyes twinkled like they always did when she looked at him. “handsome. . . smart. . . brave. . .”
she punctuated each word with a kiss on his cheek, then the other, then finally his lips.
“i’m not brave, sweetheart,” he said, cheeks red from the affection. “i’m—“
“ah!” she silenced him with a finger over his lips. “you are brave, armin arlert. you’re the bravest person i know. you could have refused when hange made you commander, but you didn’t ‘cause you’re not a coward. you stick up for your friends and look out for your comrades every day ‘cause you’re not a coward.”
he stood suddenly, turning around and taking her into his arms, lifting her off the bed. she cried out playfully in surprise, wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist. he kissed her deeply, passionately, for a long moment.
“how did i get so lucky to have you?” he asked.
she smiled. “i think i was the lucky one, baby.”
he set her down on her feet, but kept his arms around her.
“one day. . .” he whispered, “one day this will all be over and we can see the ocean together. . .”
the story of ymir fritz in the back of her mind, she forced a smile. “yeah. together.”
noticing a shift in her demeanor, he frowned. “are you okay, sweetheart?”
“yeah.” she blinked back tears. “yeah. it’s just. . . i love you so much i can’t handle it sometimes. . .”
he didn’t buy it. she knew it. he knew she knew it.
but he kissed her anyways. he wouldn’t force her to talk about whatever was bothering her if she didn’t want to.
“i love you, too, starshine,” he whispered, leaning his forehead against hers.
she wondered if nine years was enough to break a curse.
