hi so im still thinking about this. the first one. THE COLORS. its so melancholy... god these poor kids. the way you cant really see joshs face but he is still guarding the door. hes detached from them slightly because of his role in the five but he will always Always care about them no matter how much theyve argued over the years. davids eyes are shielded but hes still holding onto sofia SO tightly because even with ressurection they cannot lose another new mutant.

and sofia god. shes sort of blending into the floor. she died depowered and shes been away from the rest of them for so long. sofia tried to assimilate after being depowered (from what i remember) while david eventually joined the young avengers. GOD. the way shes limp on the floor. im gonna start crying. this is making me really emotional WOW. sorry i know no tumblr etiquette i hope you dont mind this.

doesnt even begin to touch on how you portrayed the five like YES THATS FAMILY THEYRE A FAMILY!!! but ive already written a lot

im here 5 years late but. this whole scene/concept makes me insane. you can see that so much of joshs time on krakoa is taken up by the Five but he still holds so much affection for his old classmates. the way hes turned away and his fringe is covering his eyes... AUGH they make me sick

Okay anyone else find it unnecessary that they made Josh watch Sofia die? Like, he could’ve been excluded from this? That man’s sanity does not need him to watch one of the few depowered classmates he had die

josh conversation in 2025 i am thriving omg. hopefully this doesnt get super long. so im like insane and have read everything for him including cameos BUT

the way i see it is lauries death in childhoods end was such a traumatic experience- and then the subsequent power upgrade that josh is just not the same person anymore. (i also headcanon him as bipolar but thats sort of unrelated).

for pretty much every appearance josh has after nxm and before krakoa he is ... either depressed, suicidal, literally out of his mind with power, or some other negative. he basically goes through the wringer for 10+ years because of kyle and yost 😭. and most of the early characterization (the interesting stuff) is just completely ignored which really sucks. personally i headcanon that in krakoa he was able to have a stable life again and a lot of those traits came back but marvel obviously does not care enough about him to explore it LMAO

his early characterization to me is so good because that could be like. a real kid. sure it's not a great 1 to 1 but you could easily swap becoming a mutant for becoming disabled and then apply it to a ton of people. GOD HE JUST WNAT TO BE LOVED SOOO BAD IM GONNA CRYYYYY

38 was Josh Foley aka Elixir!

Love this guy. My favorite run for him would definitely be New Mutants by Weir & DeFilippis, his characterization here is definitely the one that I prefer the most rather than his stuff with Kyle & Yost. I find his struggle with wanting to fit in, changing his beliefs and values based on who he has in his friend circle, wanting to be loved and accepted more than anything else but consistently making choices that lead people to isolate themselves from him, it's super interesting.

My favorite fact would have to be that he's Dani's foster son, which Marvel seems to have seriously forgotten. Their relationship was super serious, Dani loved him like a son. The setup of their relationship and their banter is also great. I kinda love how Dani isn't actually that much older than him, so she has more of a cool mom vibe/cool older friend and mentor.

Although... I understand that people may want to forget it seeing as it puts a huge rift in her relationship with Rahne. Personally I'm of team they should work through that issue and come out a stronger family, but Marvel would not be wiling to put in that work and I do understand why others would be upset by it. The writers admitted they made a poor choice in taking Rahne in that direction as a character.

the best part of kevin and josh to me is that according to weir and defilippis , they were originally supposed to be switched. WE WERE SUPPOSED TO GET VILLAIN JOSH. i really wish we got to see the extent of their original plans- i would've loved kevin to get more development before basically being thrown to the wolves for the next 20 years. their dynamic is literally so interesting even though ur right- they barely actually interact. like i can't recall any important conversations they had !! and no that's real normally im a helixir shipper but kevin and josh are like. wow. love those freaks. platonic or romantic or in between

i'm so mad that the five wasn't more explored during krakoa. i want to know more about his thoughts on resurrection !! especially after that one panel in x factor #4 where hope (? iirc) specifically apologizes about making josh "kill" the back up eggs. LIKE I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE MORAL DILEMMA !! especially after uxm 2016 annual [which i assume u have not read] [i refuse to spoil] his relationship with his powers has really not been explored at all and i need to know more. i hope he's not stuck in the white hot room forever

also on the topic of the 5 i hate that it was never brought up that josh met hope in x-force and eva in a one off issue of wolverine !! they have history !!! and eva and fabio have history too !!!!! augh 

ANYWAYS. yeah i. i focused a lot on his relationship with rahne for a while there because it was my first ever introduction to her character and i honestly thought she was a freak. now that ive read more of her i've calmed down about it because. that was definitely not an informed decision considering her character (imo).

looking at all of his appearances ive noticed that josh... definitely uses relationships/sex as a coping mechanism (my hypersexual josh hc strikes again). specifically what brought this on was that one panel in kyost where he asks loa if she wants to make out while he's been sitting in his room depressed for weeks- and he instantly starts smiling when she says yes. i need to do more research but it's definitely a very interesting part of his character. you could argue laurie rahne the cuckoos and loa all fit into that to an extent. 

JOSH AND DAVID !! i love them. david so rightfully hates (? dislikes ?? idk) him in new mutants and it's such an interesting dynamic. and to jump all the way to krakoa and see how close they still are even if they don't talk every day ... AUGH sickly i love them so much 

josh and dani are literally the best ever and im so sad they've gotten pushed to the side. hell apart from krakoa i don't think they interacted once after nxm !! 😔

yeah. i'm insane about him. idk if you've read it but Some Adjustment Needed by Sand3 on ao3 is like my favorite josh and kevin exploration ever. sorry for the surprise recommendation LMAO
