I'm probably going to regret this but I'm a man of my words so, as our first actual art post on this blog, here's the ref sheet for the gacha!Dan au.

And since this is our first time actually talking about this au, I'm gonna have to lore dump so BUCKLE UP, PUT ON SOME TWENTY ØNE PILOTS AND HOLD ON TO YOUR SAMSUNG SMART FRIDGES because I, Aster, am about to infodump to hell and back!!!

Okay, so this au is supposed to be reminiscent of the 2018 gacha life era, Y'know the ones I'm talking about, the "hated child becomes hybrid prince" glmms; I've seen quite a few of these through these 17 years of life and I've also seen quite a few "If *insert character/person here* was in these glmms" going around and, since DanTDM is my special interest, I decided to make this a thing; is this probably gonna end up with me on r/gachalifecringe?? Probably, but idc, cringe culture is dead >:)

(Also here's the obligatory statement: this is c!Dan, not the actual youtuber/person)

It should also be noted that this au also refrances Shady oaks smp + Darkiplier vs Antisepticeye a lot (Idc that Dark vs Anti wasn't meant to be canon, let me have my possessed Minecraft boi- 😭)

Buuuutttt enough rambling, here a mini lore dump:

•As you can see, Dan is supposed to be a "hybrid", but if we want to be technical with this, he's a mix between a demon and a werewolf.

•In this au, he's bi + transmasc and he also has autism + anxiety because if I can't be cishet + neurotypical, neither can he /hj

•He is royalty via bloodlines and stuff, but he doesn't actually find out about this until about a quarter into the actual storyline

•The amulet was a sentimental thing kept after his mother's passing and is thus something he's VERY attached to, it also glows when he's in his hybrid form because yeeee

•He also does wear glasses in this au but I can't draw glasses for the life of me sooo- Q-Q

•Also Darko exists in this au but I'm still trying to figure out how to fit him in seamlessly so we'll cross that bridge when we get there lol

evil dan x craig has been mentioned on the @dantdmcu blog a few times, i only just got round to drawing it myself lol

showing a couple of alt design choices like craig having two different colour eyes, this is the same as the crystalverse

evil dan is also using c!dan as the reference rather than the real life dan just cause i'm not comfortable drawing real people. and he has sunglasses to contrast with dan's goggles

i couldn't think of a combined-name ship title that made any sense so i think we should call it letterbomb

he just didn't think the MAIN dan in another world could be the evil one. or want to capture and use him.

the same thing he'd seen in a nightmare. and now it was coming true.

another art trade with @meowangelo !! i loved his drawing of trayaurus wearing the what part of (absolute insanity) don't you understand shirt and i also drew dan with him because on my discord chat we already have an in joke with dan wearing a shirt like this

basically one of my friends' special interest is kpop and she posted pictures of idols wearing clothes with engrish and generally rude sentences or pictures on them, one of them was this

and the reason this has anything to do with dan is because in the summer of 2021 i found his tv tropes page and it kept bringing up that one video with the cannibalism mod as if eating people was something he did EVERY video...so it just combined into this

should clarify again - those red things on dan's arms AREN'T from s/h. his arms are always bruised and covered in cuts from his adventures and being reckless, he's fine <3

some concepts for one shots/aus of the au i might add to the one shot list that's the "third" part of my crystalverse series + inspiration pictures if there is one

- trayaurus' cloning machine works all the way back then, so instead of grim the skeleton dog they have grim and glum the cloned normal dogs. that means dan and trayaurus never have the fight, but they might be reckless with their experiments after never learning from the experience

- genderbent au, featuring trayaura and dawn (who's transfem)

- the scientific prodigy and loner player dr everton, his assistant the adrenaline junkie, smarter than he looks rebel villager tray, and grim, their enderdog

- finn runs away from snowbounde after being expelled from school and thrown out of the orphanage, ending up VERY far away, on the doorstep of trayaurus' lab. and after being disowned, a revenge-considering dan is given an offer by a mysterious stranger in a hot air balloon named denton for a ride somewhere else, or perhaps the revenge he seeks, but with the ultimate cost

- dan and tray, brought together by their shared resent of their backgrouds, turn out evil (like that bacteria block mod, anti lab and all. absolutely love that video omg definitely somewhere in my top 10) but denton is also evil, and they're rivals for world domination, finn is the only one who isn't and when the crystals fall down he ends up having to be the one to either make them all snap out of what they're doing or defeat the three of them simutaneously

- enderdan 😈 (inspired by themintman's space dog au...so now it's inspiration of inspiration. very easy to understand) finn calls dan for help when the endermen surround his house and he stops his game of mario kart with tray to run over and help. dusty is saved from her bite...but dan isn't. by the time they get back to the lab the transformation is permanent, putting dan's whole future, as well as the future of his relationship with trayaurus, in jeoprady, who could love a monster like him when they can't even look each other in the eyes? but tray still loves him anyway. and he starts wearing dan's goggles when they're together (which have reflective lenses and are therefore enderman-sightproof, plus they're now too small for him) so they can still look at each other. out of the sub aus this one and the one below are the ones i'm most interested in expanding, maybe the one above too

- diamond bookcart au - trayaurus doesn't end up becoming a scientist, instead enjoying his librarian job wholeheartedly and studies a lot of subjects, one of them is science but also history and literature. he moves away from the village and lands a job in an expansive, well-respective library, which just so happens to be the emotional and physical retreat of a lower-key, more studious dan (the thinking cup being his second one) they meet slightly earlier and form a bond before dan gets disowned, and they end up moving in together (they and the csv!dan and trayaurus are definitely going to meet at some point)

this was inspired from this drawing i did during my april-may challenge, it wasn't my idea for the dark academia it was suggested to me by my friend at the time (one of my s/os now) i've wanted to do an expansion on it for a while...i have ideas but i'm going to get the main au finished first!!

What does Denton look like in the crystalverse? / Will we eventually get a ref for him?

i haven't been drawing denton as consistently as the other characters but i did manage to find this from an old coverart revision back when the first part was still hosted on wattpad. i will do an updated one but it's not much different to this:

since like finn he looks so different between the videos and book i took the book's version. note this was before he came back in the new series looking the same as trayaurus but with red eyes, they are also not brothers but they were in the same village

au where dan and tray are librarians instead of scientists and grim is a cat

idk guys. at the start of today i hadn't thought of this at all and now i'm making a secondary au to the crystalverse, it's kind of a counterpart but they are definitely a different dan and tray

it basically goes similarly to the crystalverse, but when trayaurus gets his library job in his village he finds it's not just science that's a passion, he also finds interest in history, geography, literature and just about everything he can read about. just knowledge and learning as a whole. still, he feels like he doesn't fit in with other villagers, so he moves away into a city nearby with a huge, highly respected library where he studies to get a phd in literature.

the city happens to be the same one dan lives originally (i still haven't thought of a name for it) but by the time dan meets him for the first time trayaurus already has the degree. because of his family issues dan gets more and more reserved, distant from his friend group, ignored by everyone else and invested in learning and reading.

probably the biggest difference at this point is dan, serving as 28, sat through every lecture without any complaint, and it lead to him getting out in the allocated time, but so reserved that he's almost mute. after returing, not even straight As in his final exams earn any praise from his father and brother, so he ends up giving up getting any approval.

two moons university was BEGGING for him to attend but he still wasn't allowed to go (getting the news early), and during the summer he frequents the library and the coffee shop more than anywhere else, which is when he meets trayaurus and finds a small, but growing bond with him.

eventually dan still gets disowned with even less notice than in the crystalverse, without even a chance to pack up. the first place he thinks to go is the library and he breaks down explaining everything to trayaurus, who lets him stay at his flat, and their bond gets even stronger

the two of them are still smart and successful, but they don't go on as wild adventures, and still being based in the city means they're both more and less isolated from people.

grim was adopted by them both already as a skeleton, after another contact of theirs asked if they'd be interested in keeping the cat. nobody knows how grim became a skeleton but it might have something to do with fossils. unlike in the crystalverse where they knew grim was male before he was a skeleton, the cat grim's gender is unknown, so is referred to as they/them by dan and trayaurus, who adore them because they can bring them to the library, they don't have fur to shed hehe

another big difference is tray knew dan was trans from the beginning, he was very open about it, and of course there was no issue. dan still wears goggles even when they don't have a practical use, he says to anyone that happens to ask that they're for keeping out dust from old books, in reality they're plastic ones for a steampunk cosplay and barely functional, not that he's ever actually WORN them. not even once. he just found them in a store and thought they were neat. tray got second hand embarassment from it at first when he started wearing them in public, but now he doesn't mind

dan still draws and plays the guitar, but he doesn't post on youtube and only plays in the apartment for trayaurus. they also still play video games but they only like "retro" ones. the wii is the absolute newest console they'll even consider. while cav!dan has a 3ds he plays regularly, dbc!dan has a gba sp. he paid somebody to install a backlight mod lmao

i know i know i should really finish my other story before i start other aus but this got stuck in my head all day ajsjsjdjjd...the six of them (both trios) are absolutely going to meet at some point. it's not going to take any priority i'm just brainstorming

as mentioned before this was based on old challenge art based on the dark academia atyle. tray is still with the dark academia aesthetic but dan is closer to chaotic academia (particularly with his sneakers, and the badges on his sweater)

he still has the pencil tucked in the strap of his goggles but the picture's at an angle you can't see it. that's my story and i'm sticking to it
