It was never my season, despite the frozen tundra surrounding bones. Too many ghosts and not enough chairs. Crowded rooms, tight corridors. The ground had hardened so when I fell into the mud, I was kissed with bruises. So instead of falling, I made sure I stood upright. I've been traveling, roaming.

Temptation to give into gravity was a strong tide I fought most mornings. But as I sat and sipped, I felt a warmth cradling my ring finger. Her, us. Our language and our understanding. Wrapped around me like her favorite sweater of mine, the one she stole before we even knew what we were. I found what I'm looking for. There's no need to run anymore.

This morning's sips were stuck in Yule's no man's land. Days stretched over time that belonged to neither the old year nor the old. Neither the past nor the future. Which only echoed her absence louder. With both hands around the mug for warmth, I let our velvet couch hold me along with all our notes and hidden moments tucked safely away. Home is where the heart is.

I had finished all the wrapping and writing. Gifts I've gathered for her return. Notes of random musings whenever I felt the warmth of the sun during this season of despair. I had a front row seat to their spot beneath the tree.

She'd come back and we'd celebrate all the moments missed, no matter the season. For she is my Apricity, my season that belongs to no one and nothing but itself and the present. When you kiss me I'm back where I belong. And through the hard times, good times, wrap me in your arms. Cause I need you, need you, need you.

Glimpses of a Black-Eyed Angel

Past and futures together in a little row boat to Heaven. A moonful of stars and black eyes. Forever waiting on the shore.

The first frost brought with it the stale taste of late autumn giving way to winter's pull. A season of death and decay becoming more palpable the darker the nights got. A picturesque backdrop for two funerals in one.

A mirage of senses leaving all logic behind. A haze held behind icy eyes. I remember feet, but not much more. The pungent stench flowers attempting to hide the scent of death distracted me from whispers and sobs. An echo chamber. I was underwater, just beneath the surface. Pressure in my lungs, water stuck between my throat. My arms kept missing bodies as countless pulled me in for hugs I didn’t consent to. Like passing ships in the night. As for seeing . . . black eyes from a fallen angel. Stuck herself on the shore of death. So, feet it was. I could sketch them all, down to the most nuanced detail. Anything to not see those bloody black eyes.

Caskets were closed for obvious reasons. The extent of the injuries leaked by some rookie spilling details about the case to his girlfriend who then shared it with her friends and so on and so forth only sensationalized the case even more. Not only did reporters want to know if he had returned but if anyone had caught a glimpse of the bodies. Vultures. At the ready to pick at the already gaping wound. Raw and rotting flesh.

Two things I knew immediately:

1) It was him

2) I wish I hadn’t caught a glimpse.

MAIN MOTIVATION ?

Pure passion for the game. I play pool since 2009 - and every single session of practice makes me discover something new,

- Becoming a professional is the main motivation, that's why I follow pool - and when I play well the feeling is priceless - I can play no matter the name of my opponent. 

TYPE OF MENTAL PREPARATION ?

I studied a clinic with world class player NIELS FEIJEN (Mental Game was the topic) - Try to stay positive no matter the pressure that comes during the match. It's important to also be calm and sharp in order to take the right shot selection during a match. 

HOW DID YOU REACT TO THE DEFEAT OR VICTORY?

I sometimes show my feelings at the table during the match, complain to myself after a bad shot, after getting unlucky and like that. But always respect my opponent, never have bad reaction. To win against world class players is amazing, I have a lot of nice memories like that, but also lost few times HILL HILL or super close scores and have to take them, accept and move forward. A true champion will build inside everyone if will know to manage defeats first. Most important in sports - you are analyzing the process - NOT THE IMMEDIATE RESULT. 

RITUAL?

Few minutes of practice before the match. Relaxed arm and confident stroke in order to enter the match well warmed-up.

FEAR OR FAILURE WHEN SHOOT ?

Often happens to me. It's because I still don't play constant amount of 6-8 hours per day. Still have some small technique issues as I started playing without having a coach and learned by myself and helped by local players. Over the years improved that after going to training clinics and studying the game with Darren Appleton, Alex Lely and Niels Feijen.

When I first played outside Romania - it was 2011 Open de Paris - where I beat WORLD POOL MASTER - RAJ HUNDAL from India. At that time did not know exactly who he is, was impressed when I came home and found out he was partner with RONNIE O'SULLIVAN in World Cup of Pool for England and all the other stuff. 

AND SAD MOMENT ?

Last year in Bucharest I gambled a set against SVB - my idol. We played a race to 9. I was 2-7 behind, came back fantastic to go 8-7 ON THE HILL, than he broke and run and at HILL HILL we played a crazy safety battle and I finally lost.

Another cruel one I lived in 2014 in Poland against Mateusz Sniegocki when in QF of Polish Open I was leading 5-1 in a race to 7. It was for getting a medal there. Mateusz managed to comeback and won 7-5, will never forget some silly 10-Ball missed there. HAHAHAHAHA . . . 

A DREAM TO BE REALIZED ?

Represent Romania one day at the World Cup of Pool.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT ?

FEAR - It kills us everyday if we accept it; 

FAILURE - Only someone who does not work or does not try does not fail; it is normal. The motto is to always try again fail better and finally conquer what you want. 

LOVE - The most important thing in life. 

DEATH - The end of this beautiful journey called life. Important to prepare our souls for that, because the mind will never stop fearing it. Faith should guide ourselves to not fear death anymore and understand it better. 

FRIENDSHIP - Life is great if you have a few close friends, count on someone 24/7 is important. It gives you that awesome feeling of sharing unique moments with those very few that stay around for years and years. Those persons are forever. 

COVID 19 - Test of faith for all the people around the world. For some of the professional pool players - the best period to train hard - stay disciplined - stay fit. To be honest, I never played so much pool as hours/day until this period came. 

8-BALL / 9-BALL / 10-BALL - Will always choose 8-Ball - as will always remember my debut at EC 8-Ball - winning in 8-Ball discipline against former world champion Daryl Peach from England. 

YOUR FUTURE - I'd love becoming a professional athlete in the game of pool - playing US OPEN and other WORLD EVENTS. I have already started doing some coaching in my hometown. Would love to own a Billiard Hall and help other young players improve faster than I did. For me that would be the most important thing - to be able to give something back. As a player at my age(28), I will keep fighting forever, think I can play until 60 at least. In another order, just continuing the process., but at the highest possible level. 

SUCCESS - "Set goals and crush them!" - learned from the coaching clinic with Niels Feijen. 

MONEY - There is a saying: If you love money, you never gonna have them.

What a shoot, and what a team! We shot my new film on Tuesday - Note. Based on the poem by Leanne O'Sullivan. We shot 6 locations in and around the borough of Greenwich, London. It was cold but we had amazing weather. Even had some LA sunshine late morning, to go along with a beautiful sunset over the Docklands. Everyone put in a massive effort and we created some amazing work. I want to say a big thank you to everyone involved. Dancer in the Dark

"You traveled far. What have you found? That there's no time, there's no time to analyse, to think things through, to make sense. There's no spark, no light in the dark. It gets you down."

Moments from before dripped like burnt coffee. Slow and stale. The taste of metal lingered on the tongue. Different ghosts for a different season. The phone pulled me from whatever empty room I had left myself in. Another fish caught, another trail to follow.

One hundred twenty one. I carried the weight of each day like the month of November, in stoic silence. Whispers and lingering eyes followed day in and day out. Bait for the madman caged inside. I'd rather the loneliness and solitude than to give them satisfaction. When it got to be too much, I'd crawl into the basement and let the fog take me back to green fields.

Every step, breath, and pulse counted. No matter the task or it's severity. Clinging to frayed threads. Desperate eyes found at trucker bars, the only comfort I sought rattled a pretty penny per pill. Anything to settle the ghosts. She pulled her shorts tight, enough for me to catch what color underwear she chose. It wasn't like that and never would be.

I wasn't sleeping, only dreaming. But a fish was caught and I was tired of ghosts in the dark. Work needed to be done. I had a debt to pay.

The Night We Met: A Flashback

"You don't know how lovely you are. Tell me you love me, come back and haunt me . . . I'm going back to the start." 

Ylang-ylang, peaches, and rosemary. Spring's sweetness giving way to summer's heat. Undertones of petrichor. Untethered yet someone grounded. It was the first time I noticed about her, aside from pale greyish eyes and legs for days. She spoke of music, literature, and good cooking with great knowledge, but nothing compared to the constellations in her eyes as she spoke of art.

Greg and Becs were busy spinning beneath stars of their own making by the stage while Eilin and I remained at the bar. Between sips and pours, she revealed enough about herself for me to want more. Dreams of a gallery tucked between stone-clad boutiques and pubs only the locals visit. Imagery that made my own starry-eyed mind thirsty with nostalgia for home.

"One day, I suppose." A laugh and a smile as a hand lifted in the air. "Family complicates the matter."

I nearly smiled, hidden beneath the brim of the pint lifted in solidarity.

"Somehow, I believe you'll find a way."

A bird perched in her cage, she looked out towards the stage, carefully eyeing the instruments of the jazz quartet. Looking for freedom in the form of a dance. Without a word or an offer, fingers threaded and pulled. And to no surprise of mine, Eilin managed the dance floor with ease. Ignoring every misstep I took. Years had passed since I felt it necessary to dance. Memories flooded momentarily. Flashbacks to Saturday's cleaning. Mum would break out the vinyl's only to find Kieran and myself distracted from our chores, each imitating our favorite Beatle.

"There it is again."

Her voice took me by surprise. Much like a chilling breeze down the back. The sweet scent of peaches and earth pulling me back to the present.

"There what is?"

Fingers tapped along to the slow beat of the melody guiding our movements, ghosting the back of her hand. I hadn't remembered what it felt to be this close to anyone in quite some time, let alone a woman. The air in my lungs felt much like pine needles against skin.

"You nearly smiled."

Under-15 FL Division 3 Final

GOALS usually win matches - but it didn't win this one - as Killary deservedly took the honours in this U-15 FL Division 3 decider at Dunganny on Friday evening.

The conditions were atrocious with incessant rain throughout but it didn't dampen Killary spirits as they recovered from the concession of three goals inside 16 minutes to lead by seven points entering the closing stages.

A Trim goal deep into added time left for a nervy finish but the Syddan/Castletown combination held out and Rian McConnell hit the insurance score from a free just before the final whistle.

Killary made a promising start with points from Killian Smyth and Darragh Kelly but by the time Rian McConnell accounted for their next point Trim had struck for two goals.

Both came from live-wire full forward Sean Foley who was virtually unstoppable in the early stages. Foley's third goal left it 3-1 to 0-5 for the town side but Trim only managed another point for the remainder of the half and by half-time Killary had forced their way back into the game and were on level terms 1-8 to 3-2.

It was McConnell who got Killary back on track with a goal on 21 minutes and Darragh Kelly (two) and Adam Matthews added points as the combined side finished the half strongly.

McConnell, who was unerring from frees throughout, hit the opening two points of the second half but Trim replied to regain parity by the 40th minute.

Ciaran O'Dea regained the lead for Killary on 41 minutes and that was the start of a dominant spell for the North Meath outfit.

Four points from Adam Matthews and two more from Darragh Kelly left Killary leading 1-17 to 3-4 by the 57th minute.

Substitute Darragh Heffernan pulled a point back and the game was deep into added time when Tadhg Carty blasted a close range free to the net.

Trim went all out for a match saving goal but the Killary defence held firm and victory was assured when McConnell converted a free with the last kick of the game.

After the match county minor secretary Brian Kelly presented the shield to joint captains Ciaran O'Dea and Mark Goslin.
