Hey so really quick dash con two just said they’re dropping the con maps in May. When that happens I imagine fandoms setting up official meetups will follow. I know most of the homestucks have agreed to meet at the ballpit at 11. I will be there too. However, just based on my decade of con going I imagine we won’t be able to run an official meetup at the ballpit. It will likely end up being a social thing mostly seeing as the con staff will likely regulate the ballpit. That said, the homestucks should have a cosplay meetup. The second the map drops, I’m going to stake out a spot and time for us. Probably 4pm. I have experience running large meets so I don’t mind doing it, I just wanna make sure people are interested. I’ll bring this up on the DashConTwoOrBust server closer to the map drop, but I think more people will respond positively over there once it’s more concrete. I know this a very new blog so most of yall don’t know me, but I was taught how to run meets by someone who ran Homestuck meets at ax in the 2010s in fact the last axstuck they ran in 2016 my friend and I got to shadow them. From there I ran several meets of my own up until the pandemic hit. but either way, I’ve been here for a while. I started my first Homestuck tumblr blog in 2013. And I’ve been cosplaying Homestuck and going to events since around then. I retired in 2020 and I’m back now. anyway, if any dash con two attendees would go to a cosplay meetup let me know!

User @mahmoth is describing the events surrounding the Tulip Mania of 1637. It's an easy mistake to make! Actual events of Dashcon:

The Thames had become visibly polluted due to sewage from the city being dumped in it

Two London pumps had intakes in a part of the river that was known to be polluted

Germ theory was hardly in its infancy, and the idea of fecal-oral disease transmission was actively resisted and ridiculed by many, including doctors and city officials

The Broad Street pump was further contaminated by a nearby defunct and leaking cesspit, which had not been noticed when the pump was built but was still capable of acting as a conduit for waste

The source of the outbreak was later traced to one sick infant whose diapers were washed above the defunct cesspit

The pump remained in use until Dr John Snow plotted a map of each of the households involved in the outbreak and interviewed their inhabitants to demonstrate that drinking Broad Street water was the single common factor

By the time city officials agreed to dismantle the pump, the worst of the outbreak was already past

Dr Snow's work, however, shaped the field of epidemiology as we know it today

what actually happened at dashcon to make it so awful? ive seen lots of stuff making fun of it and complaining, but nothing explaining why

Cosplay Photoshoots

In preparation for the publishing of the map and tentative itinerary, we are taking a leaf out of Anime North’s book and opening the floor to cosplay photoshoot applications.

At conventions, Cosplay Photoshoots are when cosplayers from specific fandoms/fandom groups organize a time and place outdoors next to the convention hall to take photos together. The given fandom can be as broad as ‘Idol’ or ‘Tumblr Sexymen’, or as specific as ‘Homestuck.’

These photoshoots are entirely unofficial and unaffiliated with convention staff. They are typically led by one or two cosplayer attendees who want to gather everyone else cosplaying in their fandom in one area for half an hour or so. Non-cosplayer fandom enthusiasts are welcome to come and take photos of the cosplayers, too!

If you want to host one, all you need to do is email activities@dashcontwo.com with your name, fandom, and general time! We’ll help you coordinate a photoshoot spot.
