16 students whose admission got cancelled in Daulat Ram College, moves to court

Sixteen students from DU's Daulat Ram College have filed a writ request of in the Delhi High Court over cancellation of their admissions under sports quota. On Aug 2, college Principal, Savita Roy, sent a notice expressing that 16 admissions in sports quota under first rundown stood dropped and asked the students to re-register. Later on sixth August 2018, the school issued another notice asking 12 out from those 16 students to take admissions under courses other than what they picked for. For the staying four students, the Principal said that they had got admissions through favouritism and weren't qualified. The Delhi High Court issued a stay order on August 2 notice.The court has asked that the school enable students to go to classes till the next hearing on October 11.

"Sixteen of us chose to not re-enrol ourselves and went to court because the principal said 'girl with high scores who didn't get a chance before as they were not given their preferred subjects should to be given a possibility, and I feel bad about them, this is the reason you should re-enlist' which is unfair," one of the young ladies told. Be that as it may, college Principal declined to move and considered the sports committee in charge of not following the college rules. She refereed to cases of preference by the sports committee in tennis and chess admissions. "For instance in tennis, in which we have held two seats, the first and fourth positions were given admission and not second and third," she said. Meanwhile,she has removed the Sports Committee In-control Kavita Sharma from her post. The dismissed in control blamed the Principal for playing "politics", underlining that she has done no wrong and written with the college authority against her dismissal. The student advocate Mohit Gupta found the Principal's reasons behind cancelling admissions unsound and self-assertive. "Regardless of whether there are abnormalities, there's a system to follow. Did she meet a sports committee? Did the board of trustees recognise in the minutes that there were any abnormalities? She didn't do it." he told. Read the full article
