Utopia Avenue is the perfect book for anyone with an interest in 60s London and psychedelic music. Mitchell writes it with such reverence for the period and people and it's super fun to fully envelope yourself in the world.

This is definitely the straightest narrative that I've read of Mitchell's. The most easily approachable, but there is still some fun references for anyone who is engrossed in the "Mitchellverse."

I've seen some reviews referring to it being vapid, but... have you read any memoirs or autobiographies of artists from this time? Everyone knew everyone, and was so involved in each other's music and lives.

This is maybe not a world shattering as his other novels, but this scratched the itch that I was hoping to sate with Daisy Jones and the Six.

Hello everyone, I’m very excited today as my out of office is on and I don’t have to work until Monday! We’ve had some snow and freezing cold 🥶 weather in my part of the UK 🇬🇧 so I’m planning to hunker down, hibernate and read for the next few days in the warm. Last week was pretty whirlwind and when I started this off it was on a moments notice. Thus the very general title of Design Challenge. So this week we're back with a new name: The Design Adventure Club. Perfect for self quarantines and rainy days. Welcome to the club! On to the challenge of the day. Who doesn't love a good book cover? I've done some mini examples of some of my favorite books. Forgive me for getting caught up in illustrating some of my favorites here. Also, please forgive me while I indulge myself with some mini reviews: Bone Clocks by #davidmitchellauthor : Short stories disguised as a novel which spans the 1980s to the 2040s in which the supernatural collides with our strange world that keeps getting stranger. I'm such a gigantic fan of Ursula K. Le Guin @ursulakleguin The Dispossessed is a Sci Fi novel about how class, environment and ideals survive in a culture divided. The Tao Te Ching has been a favorite since I was in my early 20s and this translation, also by the brilliant Le Guin is like poetry. When Things Fall Apart by #pemachodron Pema Chodron. The title kind of lays it all out there. This is a good one for these strange days. Finally, Back Talk, @backtalkbook by Danielle Lazarin is a collection of short stories from the perspective of girls and women as they navigate childhood, coming of age, and growing up. Lazarin's special gift is her ability to reframe the lens of childhood, so that we see things we forgot, or just plain missed the first time around. My kids chose some classics too: Dogman by #davpilkey which makes my son laugh out loud, and My Father's Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannet, which both my children adored. Note to parents: Do this challenge yourself! But if you are busy, this is a good one to set them up with and they should be able to explore it on their own. So I'm going to attempt this... it's a sci fi and branded as a difficult read. I only bought it for 50p because I'd been intrigued by the movie that one time.
