Hi @markiplier I’m not sure if you will ever see this and if you don’t that is fine. You have helped me get though my rocky life with your funny videos and your contagious laugh. About three years ago, my family life wasn’t the best. My Dad kicked my and my mom out of the house and we had to live in an apartment. He hated my Mom’s guts and treated her like trash and treated my like I was nothing. I did have my friends to help me through that tough time. But, one day I was on youtube and I didn’t watch a whole lot of youtube at that time. I saw one of your videos and it was your first Five Nights at Freddy’s videos. I clicked on it and I instantly fell in love with your videos. I literally binge watched them all and when I found out that you did charity lifestreams. I thought that you were the nicest person in the whole world. I can’t express how much you helped me through my rough life. I can tell you really care about your fans and the fans appreciate you. I know I am probably not the only on that has told you this. You helped me smile when I didn’t want to smile. And I’m an artist and whenever I draw you I smile I know that sounds pretty stupid. But, it is true. I don’t want to keep rambling on, but Mark please keep doing what you are doing. You are helping so many people and you helped me. And I am eternally grateful for that. Just thank you. ^^

８月１９日、ノルウェーの作家・ジャーナリスト、トム・エーゲランさんが戦争に対する世論を変えた８枚の報道写真をフェイスブックに投稿した。 すると、そのうちの１枚が削除された。削除の理由は「裸」が写っているからだという。 削除された１枚は、１９７２年のベトナムで、ＡＰ通信のカメラマン、ニック・ウトさんが撮影した「戦争の恐怖」だった。 当時９才の少女が、全裸でナパーム弾の攻撃から逃げてくる姿を捉え、”ナパーム弾の少女”として知られる。翌年にピュリツァー賞を受けた、歴史的な報道写真だ。 さらにエゲランドさんが、これに抗議の声をあげたところ、一時的にアカウントそのものが停止されてしまったという。 ●編集長が声を上げる この問題に声をあげたのは、ノルウェー最大の日刊紙「アフテンポステン」の編集長、エスペン・イーギル・ハンセンさんだ。 ８日付で、フェイスブックＣＥＯ、マーク・ザッカーバーグさんへの公開書簡という形で、騒動の経緯を報じ、抗議を表明した。 「マークへ。私はこの写真を削除せよとのあなたの要求に応じるつもりはないということをお知らせするためにこれを書いている」と題した記事によると、同紙もこの騒動の当事者になったのだという。 ９月７日、”ナパーム弾の少女”の写真とともにエゲランドさん��騒動を取り上げた同紙のフェイスブックへの投稿に対し、削除を要求するメールが、フェイスブックのドイツ・ハンブルグのオフィスから届き、それから２４時間足らずで写真は実際に削除されたという。 聞いてくれ、マーク、これは大事なことだ。まずあなたは、児童ポルノと著名な戦争写真を区別できないルールをつくった。そして、適切な判断の余地を残さないで、それを運用した。揚げ句には、その判断に対する批判や議論を検閲さえした――そして、思い切って批判の声を上げた人物を罰したのだ。 「マーク、あなたは世界で最もパワーのある編集長だ」とハンセンさん。「あなたはそのパワーを乱用していると思う」 ●首相の投稿を削除する 騒動は、そこにとどまらなかった。 ノルウェー保守党の代表で同国首相、アーナ・ソールバルグさんも「フェイスブックはこのような写真を検閲することで間違った方向に進んでいる」と、この写真を投稿。 すると、フェイスブックは９日にその投稿も削除したのだという。 ソールバルグさんは、フェイスブックへの投稿で、この削除について、こう指摘する。 フェイスブックがこの種の画像を削除するということは、それが善意によるものかも知れないが、私たちの共通の歴史を編集することになる。 フェイスブックはこの機会に、自らの編集ポリシーを見直し、幅広いコミュニケーションプラットフォームを運営する大企業が担うべき責任を引き受けて欲しいと思う。 ●批判と撤回 ニューヨーク・タイムズによると、この削除作業は、アルゴリズムによってまずフェイスブックのポリシーに違反する可能性のある画像をピックアップし、さらに人間が可否を判断する手順になっているようだ。 フェイスブックの写真削除問題は、「#DearMark」のハッシュタグで世界的な批判の声につながっていったという。 フェイスブックはついに９日、写真削除の撤回を表明した。 声明の中で、フェイスブックはこう説明しているようだ。 裸の子どもの画像は、通常は我々のコミュニティースタンダードに違反すると推定されます。そして、いくつかの国では、児童ポルノと見なされる可能性もあります。今回のケースでは、我々はこの画像が、時代の特別な瞬間を記録した、歴史的、世界的な重要性があることを理解しました。 それを、もう少し早い段階で、理解してもよかったかもしれない。 ●必要なのは”エディター” フェイスブックの月間アクティブユーザーは１７億人。世界のインターネット利用人口３６億人の半数近くを占める。 米国では成人のフェイスブック利用率は６７％、ニュース閲覧に利用する割合は４４％に及ぶ。 ブロガーでニューヨーク市立大学ジャーナリズムスクール教授、ジェフ・ジャービスさんは、その影響力に応じたバランスと責任の取り方として、「フェイスブックにはエディターが必要だ」と指摘する。 ジャービスさんが言う”エディター”は、個々のコンテンツの編集作業にあたるのではなく、倫理基準やポリシーの運用のレビューを担う、ニューヨーク・タイムズのパブリック・エディターのような存在を想定しているようだ。 そのようなオンブズマン的なエディターの存在は、繰り返されるフェイスブックの問題への対処に、有効かもしれない。 だが、フォーチュンのマシュー・イングラムさんは、ジャービスさんの指摘を受け、こう述べている。 とは言え、そのためには、フェイスブックがメディア企業としての責任があることを認める必要があるが、今のところ、そのつもりはなさそうだ。 ガーディアンのコラムニストで元編集長、ピーター・プレストンさんは、「現実に向き合いなさい、ザッカーバーグさん、あなたもニュースエディターなんですよ」と題したコラムで、こう断じる。 自らのサイトで、ナパーム弾攻撃から逃げ惑うベトナムの少女のように、扱いの難しい話題を掲載したり、削除したりの判断をする人は、あくまでテクノロジスト、との言い分は通用しない。それはパブリッシャー（メディア）だ。

you asked for it, so here i am! one(two!!) of your videos that means so much to me is either your "believe in yourself" video (URL) *no it's not old but it's close to my heart* or your 8 million subs milestone. i've personally been subscribed since september 8th of 2013, and the first video(series?) i ever watched of yours was the crooked man. jeez. it feels like not long ago tbh. bUt-- back to the point of this post!! the "believe in yourself" video was so important to me, every single word you spoke, meant a lot. it really hit me hard, yikes. and in your 8mil Milestone, it's honestly really crazy and mind boggling to see how many HUMAN BEINGS actually thanked you and congratulated you on 8 million subscribers (you're almost at 18 million now, holy shit dude). all the human beings who are actually behind the screen, watching you. i know i've only been watching you for 3 and a half years, (not a long time compared to most people) but your existence is one of the most important in my life. you've helped me through so much; just through videos!! how crazy is that! it's been my biggest dream to meet you for so long. you make me so fricKIN happy. words CANNOT express how proud i am.
