My Deck is Falling Apart (And I’m Finally Doing Something About It)

Confession: I’ve been ignoring my rotting deck for way too long. Every spring, I tell myself, “This is the year I’ll fix it!” and then… I don’t. But after one too many “oh god, was that a squish?” moments underfoot, I’ve accepted that this is no longer a DIY situation.
I started researching deck replacements, and let me tell you—there are so many options. Composite? Pressure-treated? What about railings? Do I go classic wood or something more modern? I was drowning in choices until I found Woodbine Contracting’s services page (here). It broke everything down in a way that didn’t make my brain short-circuit. They even mentioned custom designs, which got me thinking beyond the basic rectangle I’ve got now.
What really stuck with me was the idea of blending the deck into the landscaping—something I hadn’t even considered. Right now, my deck just… exists, separate from the yard. But what if it flowed into a little stone path or had built-in planters? I’m not saying I need a full-on resort backyard, but a little cohesion would be nice.
Still gathering quotes, but for the first time, I’m actually excited instead of overwhelmed. Maybe by fall, I’ll have a deck that doesn’t threaten to collapse under the weight of a single potted plant.

I’m so glad to see the sun out today ☀️ such a pleasant relief from all the wind and rain we have had. It’s a reminder that summer is nearly here and with that thought comes the realisation that we have quite a few jobs to do outside around the house (and clearing all the fallen trees from the wind🍃). Are you getting your deck sorted for summer? Did you know that you can use our 20mm deck tiles for your deck along with the nifty deck jacks that can be adjusted to any height you need. Building a deck has never been easier and faster! What else is super fun is that you can create some interesting patterns by mixing different tiles, and don’t get me started on the cool lighting you can run under your tiles allowing light to filter through the gaps.
