Injection Attacks

Injection attacks take advantage of the fact that applications use a database to store sensitive information. To authenticate a user, the user will type in data into a field, such as username and password, which is then matched with directly (username) or with it’s hash (password). This form of input is where an attacker can write up some code to return the private data. 

SQL is the most common form of this attack where an attacker injects code changes the typical response of authenticating to sending instructions to the database. This is an example where mixing data and control can result in negative consequences.
