Madeline Cardelle was born to two natural born witches in the mid 1600s in Dalkeith, Scotland. Tragedy started in her life at the age of sixteen when she returned home to find her parents murdered, likely by a member of their own coven. For a while after this, she simply was nomadic, unable to truly trust any other witches after what had happened with her parents, though she did remain on friendly terms with some in the area. Foolishly, she had convinced herself that she could have a life with a human man, which only lasted a few years. Before she could leave, she had a son with him and tried to stick it out, but ultimately left them both without so much as a note. 

By the mid nineteenth century she had found a place with a well-known coven in London and had married one of the coven members. As one of the leaders of the coven, she took pride in their coven not getting involved in most affairs of other witches and the general populace. The coven would not classify themselves as good or evil, however, they were largely unbothered if some destruction or death happened in the wake of their own plans. This caught the attention of an organization of hunters known as the Men of Letters. While Maddie was away on business with a coven in Spain, the organization slaughtered her entire coven. Afraid that they had tabs on her, she faked her own death and hopped on a boat to America in Spring of 1924. 

For a few decades, she retained a relatively low profile and skipped town whenever she heard about hunters being within a couple of hours of where she was. Time soon led her to feel more comfortable and she was pulled into the business of obtaining rare items for use by hunters and supernatural beings in spells, sacrifices, or pursuits for carnage. When her travels took her to Mystic Falls, she realized with current events it would be the perfect place to set up a shop and make large profits from the impending apocalypse and generally dense population of the supernatural and the supernaturally aware. She opened The Mystic Brew, which masquerades as a standard herb and rustic apothecary style gift shop, but word of mouth quickly has spread through the right crowd about a lucrative inventory room that may contain anything one might need.

some pointers about her 

when she was only five years old , her mother passed away .  an  alpha  werewolf  killed  her  .  one  that  was  ordered to  kill  emissaries . 

since that day , her father nolan has been taking care of her and it wasn’t until she was twelve when he finally opened up to holly  about how her mother truly died . for years  she was told her mother died from a fall in the woods during a jog . 

holly was very close to her mother and her death broke her at such a young age . since then , she’s been determined  to follow her mother’s steps and become an emissary . and part of her wants revenge against the werewolf that murdered her mother . that’s something she doesn’t tell though . ( i mean tbh this could ? open her up into becoming a darach  BUT . . .  !!  we’ll see how things plot wise go with her , that’s a hella dark turn for a druid  and involves sacrifices . ) 

when she was seventeen , her father moved them to the states and for a year , they lived in washington state , which allowed holly to study werewolves , and druid magic  more  and  without  fear  . 

 after her father’s one year was up at the small college in washington , he decided to move to virginia for the same job and the fact that he got word of strange happenins within mystic . holly wasn’t thrilled to move as she had gotten some what comfortable in washington . 

three months in living in mystic and she’s already learning a lot . she’s very well of the supernatural yet  doesn’t say anything. she also will play dumb unless she is needed .  meaning if she sees a werewolf hurting or  in  trouble ,  she’ll come to their rescue  as  she’s taken that oath in life .
