Bhringi Maharishi, a great devoted sage, was an ardent follower of Lord Shiva. He was so deeply dedicated to Shiva that he rejected His divine consort, Goddess Parvati, believing that Shiva should be worshipped alone. Bhringi's unwavering devotion to Shiva reached a point where he decided to perform intense penance to please the Lord. His rigorous austerities pleased Shiva, and the compassionate Lord appeared before him. Bhringi expressed his desire to circumambulate only Shiva and not include Goddess Parvati in his worship. Lord Shiva, being the embodiment of understanding and accommodative love, understood Bhringi's devotion. In response to Bhringi's insistence on only circumambulating Shiva, Parvati merged into Shiva's form, resulting in the divine manifestation of Ardhanareeshwara. In this beautiful form, Lord Shiva appeared as half-male (Shiva) and half-female (Parvati). When Bhringi attempted to circumambulate Shiva, he found it impossible, as Parvati's presence was inseparable from Shiva's. Paramashiva thus liberated Bhringi Maharishi and taught him the profound lesson that the divine masculine and feminine energies are intricately connected and cannot be separated. Today, Bhagavan Ardhanareeshwara Murthy descends among us once again in His Living Manifestation, THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM (SPH), BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM, blessing us with the sight of His beautiful divine form, and bestowing us with the complete fulfillment of our being.
