So it’s just about finished. The vintage cotton/silk reel department store display - which I found free on the roadside, came up pretty snazzy. I’ve just got to give it a second woodworm treatment and now the dowels have arrived, to secure the top. I’ve washed all the drawers and glass, fixed the drawers that had come apart, taken about an inch off the unit top with the circle saw to level it better, removed the lonely drawer and used the handle on that to fix on one where it was missing, refixed and glued down all the loose and wobbly veneer, removed the varnish from the sides and door, especially where you could see water damage, sanded it all including the butcher block counter top (which I circle sawed 3 inches off the back) and then gave it a generous helping of tinted beeswax which I machine polished for extra dazzle. It took two days and cost me £28 for materials I didn’t have and I think it was absolutely worth it.
