Dialysis is a treatment process that replicates the purpose of the kidneys if they are failing. In normal people, the kidneys serve to separate and exclude waste commodities, surplus liquid, salts, and toxins from the blood.

"Of course we Care! What goods a world locked in a season of death...?" - Honeythorn Gump 🧚‍♂️ Quick mental health check, everyone doing OK? 👍🏾 My day job is a project manager, previously in IT and now in Healthcare. I wake up every day and take some deep breaths to prepare myself for the day ahead, for the world ahead. Our world has really changed. The negativity that sometimes used to be easy to navigate sometimes now seems impossible wade through. I fought through hell for decades just for a chance to live, and I am grateful and I never forget. But hearing, seeing, speaking in our reality now...it gets hard. 🥺 I was listening to my favorite movie and heard the above quote from a forest elf and it made me laugh. It hits different in 2021. My page will always be comics first. But comics for me IS life, it's what gets me through, it's what navigated me through hard times, it's what I read in my dialysis chair, what I talked about to avoid bullies and idiots, its what I sold when I was jobless. 💯 With that said, on this comic page I say to you, please take care of your life. Please preserve it by any means necessary. Please don't get caught up in the mess, politics, world views, and banter that replace common sense. Be safe my Turtle 🐢 Friends 🙏🏾 Q. #cypresscitycomics #comicbooks #covidvacccine #covidsucks #staysafe #vaccinated #kidneytransplant #lifeisbeautiful #loveyourkidneys #dialysissucks #honeythorngump #thegump #legendthemovie (at Cypress City Comics & Apparel) https://www.instagram.com/p/CT7Y64cLckx/?utm_medium=tumblr

Home from the surgeon's office and I decided I am taking a mental health day. First, I had a problem at the clinic with my dialysis machine so I had to tear it down, reset it, and prime it a second time. Then, as I am getting ready to put my needles in, I noticed the "thrill" (the pulsing feeling of my blood flowing through the graft) was absent. Sure enough, my access was clotted. So, I was sent to the surgeon's office, they did angioplasty in a few areas and suctioned out some clots, then sutured me up and told me to go back to dialysis. I chose to listen to my body and just call it a day. So if anyone needs me, I'll be in bed praying and/or meditating that I get a kidney soon because I'm honestly not sure how much more of this I can take. . . . #DialysisSucks #LoveYourKidneys #Angioplasty #ArterioVenousGraft #ADayInTheLife #PrayersForHealing #Tired #WitsEnd #ThisIsNotLiving https://www.instagram.com/p/B_VZJZMjTNv/?igshid=1b7uxjtlcktt6

Drove almost an hour to get to this clinic in San Diego for Sean to get dialysis. I'm not allowed to be with him because of protocols for COVID-19. So, I'm sitting outside in the car in unfamiliar territory. It's cold, there is nothing open where I can get some coffee, and I have a 4 hour wait until his treatment is done. *sigh* Maybe I'll just try to sleep in the car..#dialysissucks #dialysis #nocoffeetobefound #davita #davitadialysis #iwantcoffee #thinkilljustsleephere #sodamnedtired (at Da Vita) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9_woXKnGIf/?igshid=11qybex1b4i0o

I never finished my transplant experience. So on March 19, 2017 at about 7pm I received a kidney transplant at Scripps Green Hospital. It was from a cadaveric donor. The kidney was harvested 24 hours prior to my surgery and was flown to Scripps Green Hospital from out of state. I don't know much about the donor or where it came from. I just know that it was close enough, and such a good match that the doctors were optimistic about transplanting it to me. The surgery lasted about 3 hours. It was what they called a sleeper kidney or lazy kidney. The 3 days I was in the hospital after the surgery, I produced minimal urine. I was freaking out! So I questioned every doctor that came to see me. Is it going to work? Why isn't it working? I'm getting worried! I expected it to work right away! The doctors did not seem worried. They said- These things take time. It's a sleeper. Just relax. It's gonna work! My second day, I think I was a bit depressed. I laid in bed all day with the windows drawn. I was sore, tired, and the kidney wasn't working. Dr. Luis was like- You're not sick! Stop acting like it. Get up, walk around. He pulled the curtains wide open and told me I'd be discharged tomorrow after a dialysis treatment. How could they send me home?! It wasn't even working yet! But they did. I was discharged Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in the afternoon. I felt a little ok with this because my first clinic visit was the next day. And Joel and I rented an apartment in San Diego for a month so we'd be close by. But still I was nervous. So we got to the apartment and the kidney woke up. I peed every hour or even twice an hour, and in substantial amounts! I was so relieved! And optimistic! By the end of the night I was also tired of having to get so often to use the restroom. It was more of a physical tired. This was great news! I went to my clinic visits. My labs were still a bit wonky. And they wanted me to go to dialysis on Friday. I was a bit disappointed to hear that but it was just a precaution. But things were starting to look more positive. Now it was just about getting through the recovery.
