Had my first "incident" last night that could have been far worse than this little bit of blood on my chair. Stupid mistake on my part honestly, I usually speak the steps out loud to myself as I'm doing them so I don't make errors like this but what ended up happening was I clamped my venous line (the line my blood goes back in through) instead of my arterial (the line the blood comes out of my body through) when I was preparing to run myself back. Since my chair is lower than the machine, I have to reach up to connect the arterial line to the saline bag when my treatment is over and I need to rinseback my blood. Thank goodness for that because it slowed the speed of the blood pumping out of my arm. So this little bit shot out of the line as soon as I disconnected it and I was like, "WTF?!" and I quickly clamped ALL the lines before realizing where my mistake was. The problem is the extended needles I have so I can pull them out myself are not color coded with red (arterial) and blue (venous) clamps like the ones in the clinic are so I often have to check several times to ensure the arterial is connected to the arterial line and the venous is connected to the venous. Ugh.
