I've never lined or shaded like this before so it was a HUGE CHALLENGE getting this done QoQ especially as finding good refs of his armor was sO DIFFICULT;;;;;; and obvs i couldn't ask Borb for their ref photos for when they cosplayed as Dimitri because it would've given it away GFFJKHGJK but I'm really proud of how this came out!!! Now that this is complete, my commissions are back open too! And I'll be continuing with making new things for my store!~ ★

Cards. Part 3. Dimitri and Thomas.

Part three of the story of adoptive father Thomas, with five year old Dimitri.

A soft whimper left Dimitri’s lips as he pulled the blankets closer to him, his eyes filling with tears as he tried to breathe.  The shadows of the room seemed to loom closer to him as he curled tighter into a ball, the tendrils of his nightmare still fresh in his brain.  A creak of the house settling made another whimper leave Dimitri’s lips before a small sob slipped out.

Hiding his face in his pillow, the tears started coming faster as the nightmare he woke from stayed in his mind.  Nightmares weren’t uncommon for him, for as long as he could remember they came and left him in tears.  He also learned early on that people cared more about their sleep than they did about the kid doing the waking.  Before tonight he’d been lucky, not having one in the past month he’d lived with Thomas.

Another creak was heard, making Dimitri sob more into the pillow, holding it as close as he could.  A click sounded in the room, making Dimitri jump before the bed next to him dipped, something touching his back.

“Dee, hey, baby.”  Thomas’ voice washed over him, making Dimitri peek out.

“D-daddy?”  His breath hitched as Thomas nodded, before he was scrambling into his arms.

“What’s the matter, baby?  What happened?”

A louder sob ripped from Dimitri’s chest as his arms tightened around Thomas’ neck, the elder male hugging him close.  Letting his hand rub over Dimitri’s back, Thomas rocked him softly as Dimitri’s cries slowly calmed down, his hold on his neck getting looser.  When Dee’s cries simmered down into sniffles, Thomas shifted him slightly, pressing a kiss to his forehead.

“What happened?”  Thomas asked softly.  

“N-nightmare.”

“I’m sorry, sweetheart.  Why didn’t you come wake me up?”

Dimitri frowned, shaking his head, keeping his face pressed tight against Thomas’ neck, making the other frown softly.  Grasping Thomas’ shirt, Dimitri prayed he didn’t let him go, not ready to be alone again just yet.

“Did you think you you were going to bother me?”  Thomas’ voice was low, frowning more as Dimitri nodded softly.

“Sleep is more important.”  He said, fingers clutching Thomas’ shirt.

“No, it’s not.”

“No?” Gasped softly, pulling back slightly, wide eyes looking up at Thomas.

“No, not in the least.  You feeling loved and secure is much more important than sleep, you mean more than sleep.”

Dimitri’s bottom lip trembled softly, tears welling in his eyes as he pulled himself closer to Thomas again.

“P-promise?”

“I promise.  You can come wake me up no matter what, I won’t be mad.”

“T-thank you.”

“Do you want to sleep in my bed tonight?”  Thomas asked, pressing another kiss to the side of his head, as he held him tight lifting him up after he nodded.

Turning the light off, Thomas headed back to his room, laying Dimitri on the bed, he climbed in next to him before pulling the blankets up.  Letting Dimitri cuddle next to him, Thomas held him close as Dee got comfortable.

“Good night, daddy.”  Dimitri mumbled, tucking himself under Thomas’ chin.

“Good night, baby.  I love you.”

“‘Ve you too.”

Dimitri’s breathing evened out slowly, making Thomas smile softly, holding him close as he let his eyes close.  Tomorrow Thomas would find out more about the nightmare, and make sure Dimitri knew that he could come to him if it happened again.  He would also really feel the need to report the foster house for neglect.  But for tonight he was going to hold his son close and make sure he knew that he was loved and that if he woke again, Thomas would be right there for him.

I have to admit. Sometimes all of this makes me want to post my own (anonymous) CF rewrite where El is properly treated as a (complex, highly engaging) villain as she was always meant to be and doesn’t hold back punches for fear of making the player mad. I have a lot of ideas for this and have for years but the fear of these actually unhinged individuals plus lack of interest has squashed it hard, but also it might be kind of funny to see how they react if they can’t tie it to a specific author.

I genuinely don’t understand the people who are still mad at Rhea for implanting Sothis’ crest stone in Byleth. I get having an initial disgust reaction especially if you hear it without the proper context first like in CF, but when you learn why it’s… objectively a good thing that she did? Byleth was stillborn. Sitri wanted her child to live and begged Rhea to give them her crest stone. Regardless of your feelings on Rhea’s experimentations to bring her mom back it’s like pretty cut-and-dry that she didn’t do anything wrong by implanting them with the stone. It was a GOOD thing and oh-so-tragic since Sitri was her daughter, but she respected her wishes in the end. It’s also one part of why she freaks the fuck out when you betray her in CF because Byleth literally has her mom’s heart in their chest. I dunno I just don’t get how these people played the same game when they don’t understand these very basic story beats.

Wow. Always fascinating having this blog pop up on my dash and being treated to new types of discourse. Ok jokes aside- man these people really do suck, huh. I can’t tell you the number of times over the years I’ve made posts about not liking Edelgard/analyzing the text in ways her fans don’t like/etc and got swarmed by her stans arguing in bad faith at best and telling me to kms or threatening me at worst. Over video game discourse.

Meanwhile all I’ve seen you do is personally complain on your own blog about takes you see that you disagree with? And when you bring people up it’s always because they were doing some wack shit like sharing screenshots with uncensored usernames or block evading? Again I just don’t know what reality these people live in but it’s so fucking annoying and the reason why I stay on anon lol.

(Rant time) There’s just no winning with these folks seeing as they’re pretty much just bullies at this point deflecting their own (or at least people in their circle’s) behavior back on the people just trying to talk about the game and mind their own damn business. It’s really not that hard to see a take you disagree with and just block and move on, it’s so easy and I do it all the time. It’s hard to want to genuinely interact with ANYONE pro-cf/Edelgard/etc when I’ve been burned so many times by people jumping to call me vile things because I dared share a reading of the text different than the ones they personally project onto the game. Even just saying “I like Rhea and don’t think she’s nearly as bad as people make her out to be” is some sort of cause for freaking the fuck out and harassing people which just. *Head in hands* UGH. Anyway rant over. I know you just laugh at them at this point (and good on you for that) but I’m still so sorry you have to deal with these ppl, truly could not be me.

The game literally said that it didn’t work because not enough blood was taken… because Rhea didn’t want to kill the apostles!!!!! They survived, hence why the ashen wolves are even able to exist. Edelgard’s lack of interest in looking into the history of Fodlan beyond what her (dubiously reliable) father and (fantasy Nazi torture squad) TWSITD tell her is such a clear and glaring character flaw that so many of her “did nothing wrong” fans defend as Good, Actually. Like I can’t wrap my head around it, we know that there’s so much about the history of the continent that El either doesn’t or refuses to learn and while it’s understandable in some ways why she can’t it’s still like. Bad. It’s so clear that if her actual goal was liberation then she would’ve done more research, gone to the church and told them that hey, the Slitherers™️ are at it again and we need to do something. But she doesn’t, because that’s not actually her goal… it’s conquest of the other two nations and an overturning of the current system to favor her (mostly already privileged) friends, plain and simple. But people who either didn’t play any routes but CF or just didn’t pay attention/have poor media analysis skills love to say otherwise. Bluh.

I still can't get over how she was tortured and lost all her siblings to TWSITD and decided that the CHURCH was the biggest threat.

Edelgard 100% believes she is in the right and is the ONLY person who is right and thus is the ONLY person who can bring about change. And with "change" I mean "unify Fodlan and bring it under the control of the Adrestian Empire like it was in the past".

At no point does she consider that Wilhelm's history could've been tampered with, or simply been misunderstood after a whole millenia has passed. And why not? Because it's the only thing that drives her hatred for the church, and if it was disproven then she has no leg to stand on? Probably!
