1966. Jyväskylä.

Today is a warm day. Exceptionally warm for this part of Finland. A perfect day for swimming. Berwald’s been doing okay these days, except for a few nights when the breathing got shallow and the apnea hit especially hard. Maybe he’ll feel well enough to soak a little in the lake. I would hate to strain him.

His chest started looking better. He’s healing. Slowly. He’s taking his time. I hope I could help him somehow, I owe him this much. I’m glad he’s enjoying the books I showed him. The stories are nice, and the characters are sweet. One day, he’s been reading all day. I couldn’t get his attention anyhow. But this is okay. He’s resting.

We’ve been going to sauna every now and then. I think it’s doing wonders, sauna is good for a lot of things. Maybe we could go today too. Chopping wood is difficult for me, but it’s fine. I can, and I have to, handle it. I promised I’ll take care of him, and I will.

Oh, and we’re running out of coffee. This is a note to myself. Get more coffee.

No matter what, they’ll always find their way back to each other. Over the centuries they’ve had plenty of spats and near-altercations but its because they’re being stubborn, allowing their insecurities and fears dictate their words and actions, or fueling some miscommunication blown way out of proportion that they’re too prideful to resolve.

Both Sarafina and Feliciano are petty and hold grudges, but its almost always Feliciano who breaks and crawls back with either some sort of half-assed apology, or his heart on his sleeve and begging for forgiveness. As much as they let their misgivings steam on the proverbial back burner, they choose to live and let live, preferring the temporary relief over sorting out all their issues in a constructive manner.

Which is why they still have so many issues.

Regardless, they still love each other and use these many, many problems like springboards to progress in their complicated standings with each other. No amount of bad history can overwrite just how strong their bond is. They still love each other, and it’s safe to assume some things never change after so much time has passed.

Sarafina is concerned about herself and inciting some sort of revenge for their fallout; Feliciano, at first, believed he wanted revenge too, but realises that all he wants is to smooth their conflict and become close again. He’ll allow himself to be walked over to prevent her from leaving again-- its the last thing he wants. And on some level, whether subconscious or not, Sarafina understands that the unconditional devotion he still has is detrimental, but she’ll soak up as much of it as she can before it dims out for a while. To then be revitalised.

It’s a constant pattern, one that she’s grown accustomed to toying with; one that he’s habituated over hundreds of years. It’s the reason why they’re like this.

But it’s different now. They’ve grown. They’ve had time apart to heal and purge themselves of the most consuming of dread and agitation. There’s a mutual desire to mend old wounds and keep the other’s company for good reasons and familiarity.

Let’s hope it stays as so.

watermelon: do you have a job? if so, what is your job title?

I do. I work for a mining consulting company where my job title is Document Management / Document Controls. I basically handle issuing documents to the client and editing any reports that are written. I am currently not working there right now due to illness, but I hope to be back by November this year.

plum: favorite clothing brands?

Torrid’s brand is what I usually buy because the clothes fit and they last awhile. I don’t usually look at brands when I am buying tbh.

apricot: what do you do when you’re sad?

If I am able to, I go and take a nap. If I am not able to, I usually retreat into myself and use my phone as a crutch in social situations.

She still had the keys to this place. To her disbelief, the locks hadn't been changed since she had last been there. As she stepped over the threshold, the lump in her throat refused to be swallowed. Wordlessly, she walked towards the kitchen -- until the floorboard creaked underneath her.

Unsurprising to say the least, he hadn’t left his bedroom or the upstairs office since early morning. He thought it best to head down to finally get something to eat and drink, battered coffee mug in hand, no alarm in his descent until he heard the unmistakable sound of movement coming from the kitchen.

From his place on the bottom step, he had no idea who was inside his house; no idea if this was a robber, a trespasser, or some other unwelcome stranger. His only means of defense were back in his bedroom, and whoever was there would surely hear him turn around and bound back up. Sound travels too well with wood.

Taking a slow breath, he decided to head into the kitchen despite the uncertain danger lurking there. Not even two steps through the threshold did he audibly gasp as if seeing some ghost and drop what he held. Pieces of fine ceramic scattered over the tile, but his broken mug was the last of his worries. He wasn’t sure if he was seeing things, but the woman standing in his kitchen, like it was her own. Like she knew exactly where to go.

Shocked. Too shocked to get any coherent thought out besides a name, and even then, he still doubted it. Doubted that this was really…
