And...10 Books that Screwed Up the World and 5 others that didn't help has been finished. Another book that earns 5 stars and needs more praise and attention. Especially in the world we live in today. The Scottish philosopher and writer, Thomas Carlyle, was once scolded at a dinner party for incessantly chattering about books. A fellow diner exclaimed, "Ideas, Mr. Carlyle, ideas, nothing but ideas!" To which Carlyle replied, "There once was a man called Rousseau who wrote a book containing nothing but ideas! The second edition was bound in the skin of those who laughed at the first." Ideas have consequences, there is nothing so absurd quipped the ancient Roman philosopher statesman Cicero, that can't be said by a philosopher. Unfortunately, philosopher absurdities aren't limited to class room sophistry and eccentric speculations. They make their way into print and that thereby released upon the public. They can be and have been deadly, dangerous and harmful as deadly diseases. And, as with deadly diseases people can pick up deadly ideas without even noticing. These ideas float, largely undetected in the intellectual air we breathe. By all means do not take my word on it. Simply just look around and realize the path we are on.
