“Race, you take Davey to handle Brooklyn, I’ll take the Bronx,” Jack instructed, standing over his crew. Race nodded, a look of seriousness on his face. Jack herded the boys out of Jacobi’s Diner.

“Woah, hey, where do you think you’re going, Kelly?” A brunet, brown eyed, tired looking Bronx newsie crossed his arms over his chest, blocking the way into the Bronx newsboy lodging. The tiredness in the boy’s eyes didn’t take away from the fact that he was more than willing to defend his turf.

“Came to see the boss,” Jack shrugged, unfazed by the hostility. Your boys weren’t as rough as Spot’s but they still respected and protected you greatly.  The boy narrowed his eyes, considering this new information.

“On what grounds?” He cocked his head, standing firm.

“To talk business.” Jack withheld his annoyed eye roll.

“Dix,” Another boy called from inside. “Let him in.”

The first boy, Dix, uncrossed his arms, leading Jack inside the building without a word. Boys and girls alike were scattered through the winding halls, playing cards or reading newspapers they didn't sell.

Finally, Dix stopped in front of a door, the paint peeling off of it in odd strips. He knocked and must’ve received a faint reply because he opened the door shortly after.

The room was small and open, with a couple of bunk beds lining the walls, each bed covered in ratted sheets and tattered blankets. You were sat in a windowsill, over-looking the city below you. Your hair was untamed and slightly messy, and your clothes didn’t quite fit right but you were like a vision. A hallucination of an angel with the setting sun outlining your silhouette.

“Boss, Jack Kelly is here to see you,” Dix spoke in his rough voice. You swung your legs off the windowsill, bare feet quietly hitting the floor.

“Thank you Dixin, you are dismissed,” You spoke with an authority that took Jack aback. He wasn’t scared of Spot Conlon, but you - you sounded like you could destroy him with a snap of your fingers. He shook off the feeling as you sized him up.

“What do you want, Kelly?” You asked after a moment. Your voice was indifferent, as if you didn’t really care why he was there.

“Pulitzer raised the Newsie price, my boys and I’s goin’ on strike. We want you to join us,” Jack told you. You hummed, thinking it over.

“Half them trolly strikers is laid up with broken bones. I ain’t sendin’ my kids in if you can’t guarantee that you ain’t gonna run if trouble finds you.” You shook your head slightly.

“Look, we really need your support on this one,” Jack nearly pleaded. You sighed running your fingers through your hair.

“If you can get Conlon’s support, then you got mine. And I don’t mean any disrespecting you, but I got kids that need food and clothes.” You offered. Jack paused, running his fingers through his hair. Hopefully the other boroughs were doing better.

“Okay,” He breathed, “And if we get Brooklyn?”

“Then you have my support one-hundred percent. My group and I will be there, backing you up.” You gave him a smile. “Anything else, Kelly?”

“No, that’s all, thank you, Y/n/n.”

“It’s been a pleasure. You should get heading back to Manhattan if you want to get home before the sun’s down.”

Jack left with a nod. A nod and a baby crush.

You leaned against the wall as Davey introduced Spot Conlon of Brooklyn. Jack was still nowhere to be found and part of you was disappointed. He was cute sure, but you knew his dreams of leaving New York. Spot gave the signal, silencing the room. But the room began shouting again as Jack took the floor, spewing some nonsense about backing down to the new price. You shook your head with a frown, meeting Jack’s eyes from across the room. This wasn’t the Jack Kelly that you knew. You shook your head at hitting Dix’s arm to get his attention. Dix followed you out silently, and Jack thought that would be the last he’d ever see of you.

“Y/n/n, you’re actually here?” Jack exclaimed, shock clear in his voice.

“Yeah well, what part of ‘I will stand by you’ did you not understand?” You snorted, shaking your head. Spot gave a short smile at that, but not a laugh.

Davey laid out the plan in the cellar Manhattan and Brooklyn, and Bronx would deliver the Newsies banner to every working kid in new york city.

“Good luck out there Y/n,” Jack grabbed your hand before handing you your papers.

“What makes you think that I need luck, Kelly?” You smirked, you knocked on his chest, spinning with a wicked grin. “Bronx! Let’s get to it.”

“NEWSIES OF NEW YORK!!” Jack yelled from the platform in Newsies’ square. “WE WON!”

The crowd erupted in cheers. You were pulled left and right into elated hugs. The shouts only quieting when a voice rose above the crowd.

“Hey, Jack! Look, it’s Crutchie!” The voice shouted, and the crowd parted for a boy on a crutch. The boy was pulled into hugs of his own, and you watch as Snyder was handcuffed and dragged off to jail.

Jack filtered through the crowd, hugging his friends and thanking his associates until, finally, he approached you.

“Looks like a job well done, Kelly.” You gave him a sort of sad smile. “I suppose now that we won, you ain’t got business in the Bronx.”

“What if I’s just wantin’ to come by not on business?” Jack chewed his lip. You furrowed your brows.

“What’re you saying, Kelly?”

“What if I wanted to, y’know, take you out? Like, on a date?” Jack shuffled awkwardly. Your face heated up just a little.

“Oh,” You wetted your lips, “How about you come find out?”

Jack gave you a devious grin as his boys yelled at him to get his papers and get selling.

“You should get over there,” You joked, “Don’t wanna lose a days pay.”

“Alright, alright?” Jack rolled his eyes, pressing a kiss to the back of your hand and wishing you luck before going and joining his friends.

Pink, Fresh & Functional: A Not-So-Typical HDB

Veering away from conventional styles transformed this humble HDB into one swanky apartment.

Singapore is home to many similar styles. Unfortunately, most of our homes are, arguably, alike and you’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who dares to challenge the status quo.

Which is why this 4-room HDB in Cantonment Close is like a breath of fresh air. Expressing a mutual dislike for the monotone Nordic look, couple Dixin and Zhihao chose to play with different colours and patterns, resulting in an extraordinary space.

“We were drawn to the industrial look in the beginning. However, we decided against it in the end as it wasn’t inspirational enough,” said the duo. “After browsing through the usual platforms and magazines, we came to the realisation that the mix-and-match aspect of the eclectic and modern design spoke more to us.”

Both Dixin and Zhihao had their interior designers, Alvin and Yee Ling from The Scientist, work with a shade that’s more than a little unorthodox – a pretty and delicate pink.

“Despite changing up our style, we still wanted our space to remain functional,” the couple explained. “We wanted to introduce more storage, opening up our communal areas, expanding our bedroom (since we’re not planning on having kids) and adding warmth back into the space with dark wood elements.”

Working full-time leaves both Dixin and Zhihao busy, which led them to decide on an open concept kitchen. Their designers not only hacked down the kitchen wall but also fashioned several built-ins for the pair including kitchen cabinetry, counter storage and a generous dry pantry.

“The living room is so spacious yet cosy, it’s definitely where we spend our time now. Our favourites are definitely the dining chairs and counter!” said the pair.

When asked about how they ended up choosing terrazzo for their countertops, Dixin and Zhihao revealed that they went on a shopping trip for tiles and lights with their interior designers.

The quartet hit up Hafary first where they spotted the signature slabs, red and art deco tiles, which were used in the doorway and walkway respectively, before heading to the lighting store where they bought pendant lights for the bedroom.

“The design for our recently expanded master bedroom was quite simple, playing only on colour,” said Dixin. “So Alvin and Yee Ling suggested that we get new lights to add more character to the space. We also bought a complementary painting, which helped to introduce darker elements.”

A different set of metallic pendant lights were used in the en suite to great effect. Here the rose gold accents were paired with marble-like tiles and a gorgeous round mirror, conjuring an image of pure opulence found only in an upscale boutique hotel setting. “The metallic elements elevated the space, nailing the hotel feel that we wanted to a T,” Zhihao shared.

Designers Alvin and Yee Ling went on to advice the duo on home styling – from accessories down to their curtain options, everything was displayed and used with intent to bring out the best of the home.

“They had a complete grasp of our design preferences and tastes,” said the happy couple. We trusted them wholly with translating our vision to reality – even when they proposed ideas that were initially beyond our comfort zone.”

Do you know what's the fvcked up part of this particular scene?

It's the fact that right after Xiao Lanhua was found by Dongfang Qingcang after being left all alone by herself rapidly losing blood and life draining out of her, the first and immediate thing she did was raise her hand to Dfqc's abdomen - the same place where she stabbed herself - to check if he was also hurt, wondering if the Heart curse had affected him in any way. When she confirmed he was ok, she said with relief, "you're ok."

But you know who's not ok? This b!tch.

This b!tch who kept thinking that even in her dying breath, all she cared about was Dfqc's wellbeing; the same man who had hurt and humiliated her just a few scenes previous, even if he did it for her own sake. And Dfqc knew; knew that until the very end she still loved him, and that only added to his already overflowing guilt and pain so when she literally disintegrated in seconds right there in his fvcking arms, he snapped and almost lost what was left of his sanity. Like, fvck that sh!t, bruh.

The BTS of this showed the hand gesture clearer and I hoped they focused more on that.
