I’m supposed to get photos as soon as I take something out of the box. I know better. The rule is not to play with the gadget first. I’m going to crash the drone; I always do.
I crashed the DJI Mavic Air 2 and broke a landing peg. I flew the drone before I took pictures and, of course, the drone found a tree. I swear it’s not my fault this time. I quickly discovered the Mavic Air 2 obstacle avoidance technology is not up to par with its competition.
And yet I still love this drone. The Mavic Air 2 builds on the success of the original and is loaded with updated technology. Now it can go faster, farther and take better pictures while performing automated flight paths and object tracking.

Review
Flying the DJI Mavic Air 2 is a treat and has everything a drone needs: fast speed, high-res camera, long battery life, tremendous range and obstacle avoidance. And it’s relatively inexpensive at $799.
I’m satisfied. And that’s not something I often say when reviewing gadgets. There’s little missing from this product. It’s not perfect — the avoidance system has trouble detecting obstacles on the side of the drone — and yet I have no problem recommending this drone. The DJI Mavic Air 2 is the best consumer drone to date.
I wish I could show video from an epic kayaking trip where the Mavic Air 2 follows our boats down rapids and around a gnarly river. But I’m writing this review during the COVID-19 lockdown, so the best I can do is videos of my golden retriever, Nova, chewing on a stick, and me mowing my yard.
It’s fast and capable of hitting 40 mph. The range is excellent — I was able to stream video from nearly the stratosphere. The automated flight paths are a great way to add drama to any video. Just select a person or lawn tractor, and the drone will follow it, even circling if instructed.
The crash
I love the Mavic Air 2 even though it crashed while performing an automated video. Twice.
Here’s the thing. I’m known around TechCrunch as the guy who crashes drones. I want to think it’s because I use them a lot during the review process to find their limits and flaws. Maybe I’m just a lousy pilot. Our original DJI Mavic coverage was delayed because I crashed the drone into a birdhouse and snapped a handful of props. Replacements had to be shipped from China. With the Mavic Air 2 I missed the birdhouse, but found a tree, and a landing leg snapped in half when it hit the ground. Later, when the drone was filming me on the mower, it got stuck in a tree after not sensing a massive tree limb.
I don’t think these crashes are my fault.
The DJI Mavic Air comes preloaded with flight routines. The idea has roots in the drone selfie — where someone stands on a picturesque cliff and the drone takes off backwards, pointed at the waving group of people while revealing the stunning landscape. This DJI drone can do this automatically. Just select a subject — me on a mower — and hit start. The drone counts down from three and starts flying while keeping the person or object in focus.
As you can see in the video above, everything was going great. The drone took off from about 8 feet, skimmed the birdhouse that previously claimed another drone, and was slowly circling my yard until it found a tree. I assumed the drone’s obstacle avoidance system would have stopped the drone if it detected an object. That’s what happened during the previous dozen flights. But this time, the drone did not identify the branches and crashed.
I don’t think it’s my fault.
The drone has a hard time detecting objects when moving side to side. There are multiple sensors on the front, back and bottom of the drone and none on the side. The second time it crashed, the drone was in a similar motion, moving side-to-side when it lodged itself on a large limb.
The drone survived both crashes and can still fly, and I’m having a blast. The drone is fast and stable. The range is incredible, though if the FAA is reading this, the drone never left my line of sight.
Operation
DJI states the Mavic Air 2 has a video transmission range of 10 km. In my experience, these range numbers are unachievable in the real world. More often, the range is more than half of that distance, but still impressive and well out of the operator’s sight range.
Drones are increasingly adding technology for capturing personal experiences rather than faraway objects. The Mavic Air 2 seems purpose-built for this task. Sure, it can fly forever in a straight line, but it has the capability of tracking an object and providing a unique vantage point.
The Mavic Air 2 packs DJI’s latest object tracking tech, and it works well as long as its limitations are understood. Just drag a box around an object and the software will lock onto the object and keep it centered in the camera’s field of view. Combined with the obstacle detection sensors, this gives the Mavic Air 2 an impressive suite of capabilities.
DJI’s new object tracking is an improvement over past generations. It seemingly has no issues detecting large objects in front, behind or under the drone.
In my experience, the Mavic Air 2 detected power wires, birdhouses and large tree branches as long as they were not on the drone’s side. And it sees people and vehicles fine. It has a hard time tracking Nova; more often than not, the drone loses him even when he’s walking. If the drone detects a potential collision, the controller starts beeping with fury.
With object tracking, it frees the operator from being in front of the camera. Suddenly, with this feature, the possibilities are endless. As detailed above, the Mavic Air 2 lacks sensors on the drone’s side, which is its limiting factor. Use it in a field or parking lot, and you’re good. Use it down a wooded river or trail, and you’ll have a bad time.
Skydio makes a consumer drone that has a similar feature set. However, in my experience, the Skydio drone’s object detection is superior to what’s found in the Mavic Air 2, making the tracking features more useful. With a Skydio drone, users are able to have the drone fly autonomously through areas the Mavic Air 2 is unable to navigate.
The Mavic Air 2’s camera is fantastic, considering the price of the drone. It easily captures the blue skies and wispy clouds, which is often hard for cameras in consumer drones. Colors pop, and landscape photos come alive. The 48MP sensor provides enough detail to zoom into areas with little loss of quality. The camera can shoot RAW files and DJI released a series of ND filters that can attach to the front of the lens, giving the user more control over lighting.
Best of all, the Mavic Air 2 has excellent battery life. I averaged around 30 minutes of flight time in moderate wind when using the drone in Normal mode. The battery life drops to around 25 minutes with high winds or spirited flying in Sport mode. During my time with the Mavic Air 2, I flew the drone more than a dozen times. I don’t think I ever had to recharge the controller.
Conclusion
The Mavic Air 2 was a long time coming. I’ve used nearly every DJI consumer drone since the original Phantom, and each generation leapfrogs the last in capabilities and convenience. The original Mavic freed me from carrying a large Pelican case with Phantom drone. The second generation Mavic added a better camera. The small DJI Spark made drones even more portable, but the camera and range were lacking. The DJI Mavic Mini filled that need with updated tech in a foldable design, and yet the camera is underwhelming.
The Mavic Air 2 builds on the success of the original but is loaded with updated technology. Now the Mavic Air 2 can go faster, farther and take better pictures while preforming automated flight paths and object tracking.
The Mavic Air 2 is the drone for most consumers. It hits the sweet spot of capabilities for the price.
DJI Mavic Air 2 Review: Fantastic drone, despite obstacle avoidance blindspots I’m supposed to get photos as soon as I take something out of the box. I know better.

DJI’s Mavic Air 2 has a flight time of 34 minutes
DJI today unveiled the Mavic Air 2, the successor to the Mavic Air, which was released in early 2018. There isn’t much in the way of surprises — the manual leaked in full last week — but the company detailed a few of the photography features debuting on its latest mid-range, travel-friendly foldable drone.
DJI asserts that the Mavic Air 2 isn’t just a refinement of the Mavic Air, but a built-from-the-ground-up product developed with a new manufacturing process. This is reflected in the Mavic Air 2’s faster flight speed and longer flight time, the company says, as well as the drone’s dimensions and weight. It’s 570 grams — just over 100 grams heavier than the original Mavic Air (430 grams) — and only a smidge larger, at 180 x 97 x 84 millimeters compared to 168 x 83 x 49 millimeters.
The Mavic Air 2 features a 1/2-inch 48-megapixel Quad Bayer sensor, which has four photosites — one for each color pixel. This enables it to capture different exposures simultaneously and smooth out color and tone while reducing image noise as it does so. The Mavic Air 2 also has the distinction of being the first drone in the Mavic lineup that can record 4K video at 60 frames per second and 120Mbps, optionally in high dynamic range (HDR) or panoramic high dynamic range.
On the software side, the Mavic Air 2 can capture either 12-megapixel or 48-megapixel photos and slow-motion videos at 4 to 8 times speed (240 frames per second) in 1080p. Its SmartPhoto photography suite includes Scene Recognition, which taps AI to detect sunsets, blue skies, grass, snow, and trees and optimize the color, detail, and tones accordingly; Hyperlight, which takes multiple snapshots and merges them to cut down on noise and boost brightness; and HDR Photo, which automatically captures seven photos at various exposures and merges them together to improve contrast.
In addition, the Mavic Air 2 ships with a family of videography features dubbed FocusTrack. Spotlight 2.0 — which was previously reserved for higher-end DJI drones like the Inspire 2 —  locks a subject in the frame while letting the pilot move the drone. ActiveTrack 3.0 selects a subject to follow automatically, employing 3D mapping tech and revamped path-finding algorithms to better recognize subjects, avoid obstacles, and re-engage when subjects occlude. Lastly, Point of Interest 3.0 — which benefits from improved surface recognition — sets an automated flight path around a target person, animal, or thing.
There’s also QuickShots, a set of pre-programmed flight maneuvers (Rocket, Circle, Dronie, Helix, Boomerang, and Asteroid) that use the Mavic Air 2’s 3-axis gimbal and electronic image stabilization for ultra-steady footage. And mid-May will see the release of an 8K “hyperlapse” feature that mimics the effect of a timelapse but with the added element of physical movement.
Beyond the Mavic Air 2’s camera chops, DJI is spotlighting the flight performance, which the company characterizes as “unparalleled” in the drone’s price range. That remains to be seen, but it’s true that the Mavic Air 2’s quoted flight time — 34 minutes — exceeds that of the Mavic Air (21 minutes), while the maximum transmission distance is substantially improved, at 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) over both 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz frequency bands versus the Mavic Air’s 4-kilometer (2.4 miles) range. (DJI’s OcuSync 2.0 tech automatically switches between the two bands based on signal strength.) As for the top speed, it’s the same as the Mavic Air: 68.4 kilometers per hour (42.5 miles per hour).
Those aren’t the only hardware upgrades of note. The Mavic Air 2 has obstacle sensors on the front and rear that warn pilots when they’re too close to an object and which can stop the drone from moving any closer to avoid collisions. Additional sensors and auxiliary lights assist with other functions, like automatic landing in difficult lighting conditions. DJI’s AirSense technology warns drone pilots of other aircraft (like airplanes and helicopters) nearby and displays their location on the controller’s screen, and the updated Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS 3.0) helps the Mavic Air 2 create a new path around, under, or over objects with smooth transitions and fluid movements. (DJI says that AirSense will initially only be available in North America, but that it’ll come to other regions in “summer 2020.”)
The Mavic Air 2 is available for preorder starting today at $799 — the same MSRP as the Mavic Air — which puts it between the smaller DJI Mavic Mini and pricier Mavic 2 Pro. It ships with a redesigned remote controller with a speaker and spring-loaded phone mount, all necessary wires and cables, and a single battery. The $988 Fly More package throws in two extra batteries, a case, a charging hub, and neutral-density filters.
Firm ship global dates haven’t been announced yet, but DJI says it expects the Mavic Air 2 to hit U.S. stores sometime in May. It’s available in China starting this week, and pre-orders for the rest of the world begin today.

The DJI Mavic Mini vs. DJI Mavic 2: Which Drone is Right for You?
DJI’s Mavic Mini has just hit the shelves.  Ali Crane of DJI experts Dr. Drone explains the differences between the Mavic Mini and the Mavic 2 in detail to help you choose.
The following is a guest post by contributor Ali Crane, Content Creation Specialist for Dr Drone, Canada’s first official DJI Store specializing in drone retail, repair and customization.  Images and content courtesy Dr. Drone.
With the recent reveal of the highly anticipated Mavic Mini, DJI finally introduced their first new consumer drone of 2019, over a year after the release of the now world-renowned Mavic 2. The new Mavic Mini features game-changing specs, including a weight of only 249 grams and a maximum flight time of up to 30 minutes.
With its weight being under the lowest weight class of drones for most countries, powerful specs, and foldable, ultra-compact design, the Mavic Mini could be set to dethrone the Mavic 2 as the world’s most popular consumer drone. Below we have broken down the differences between both the Mavic Mini and Mavic 2 to help you better determine which drone is the right investment for you.
Design
The Mavic Mini is DJI’s smallest and most lightweight drone ever, weighing in at only 249 grams and compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand. The aircraft features a foldable design that mimics that of the Mavic 2, and when completely folded down is about the size of a soda can. When folded, the Mavic Mini measures 140×82×57 mm (L×W×H) and when unfolded 160×202×55 mm (L×W×H). Aesthetically, the Mavic Mini features a matte, light grey colour and sleek, aerodynamic design.
Of course, the highlight of the Mavic Mini’s design is its weight, enabling users to fly the drone without having to abide by government regulations in many countries. This is a ground-breaking feature for drone enthusiasts of any level, as it gives users the option to fly in more areas that were previously restricted, without having to worry about the baggage of government rules.
The Mavic 2 series includes both the Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro. Both drones feature similar aircraft designs and specifications but different cameras. The Mavic 2 aircraft features a matte dark-grey color and fold-down design. When folded down the Mavic 2 measures 214×91×84 mm and 322×242×84 mm when unfolded. When completely folded down the Mavic 2 is about the size of a water bottle and roughly twice the size of the Mavic Mini, though the overall drone is still extremely portable, compact, and easy to travel with.
Camera and Gimbal
In spite of its extremely small size, DJI equipped the Mavic Mini with a powerful 3-Axis gimbal system to keep any footage captured smooth and shake-free. The drone is capable of capturing 2.7K video at 30 fps, 12-megapixel stills and features a 1/2.3 sensor with an electronic shutter. Though the Mavic Mini lacks 4K video capabilities, the 2.7K 12-megapixel camera is perfect for beginner or casual users. One limitation for more professional users would also be that the drone can only shoot in JPEG and MP4 formats.
Both the Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro feature DJI’s patented 3-Axis stabilized gimbal system. With the Mavic 2 series, users have two powerful camera options to choose from depending on their application and desired price point. The Mavic 2 Zoom is the only drone in DJI’s consumer line up that has zoom capabilities in flight, featuring 2x lossless optical zoom that can go from 24mm-48mm. The Zoom can capture stunning 4K video at 30 fps, 12-megapixel stills and features a 1/2.3” CMOS sensor. The Mavic 2 Zoom also comes with a few unique modes including Super Resolution, wherein the drone can shoot and stitch together a stunning 48-megapixel photo as well as Dolly Zoom, an effect that will enable users to zoom into a subject and distort the image outwards for a dynamic and cinematic shot.
For the Mavic 2 Pro, DJI partnered with iconic Swedish camera maker Hasselblad, to create their highest quality camera on a consumer drone to date. The Mavic 2 Pro features a camera capable of capturing 4K video at 30 fps and 20-megapixel stills in JPEG and DNG RAW. The Mavic 2 Pro also features a 1-inch CMOS sensor, the largest sensor size of any DJI consumer drone for enhanced detail, light, and colour. In comparison to the Mavic Mini and even the Mavic 2 Zoom, the Mavic 2 Pro’s camera will give users much more control over their camera parameters including shutter speed, aperture, and ISO, making it the ideal choice for those looking to use a drone for more professional endeavors.
 Performance
Though small in size, the Mavic Mini does not sacrifice performance. The Mavic Mini features an incredible flight time of up to 30 minutes with a fully charged battery, and a maximum range of 4 km, a ground-breaking achievement for DJI. Using an Enhanced WIFI system, the Mavic Mini will also automatically switch between 2.4GHz and 5.8 GHz frequencies. The aircraft can handle temperatures between 0° to 40°C (32° to 104°F) and up to 28.4 km/h wind speeds under warranty. Despite its extremely small and lightweight size, the Mavic Mini performs extremely well in the air. When piloting the Mavic Mini, the aircraft is very accurate and price in flight, and maintains its stability even in moderately strong wind conditions.
The Mavic 2 features a similar flight time of 31 minutes but double the range of the Mavic Mini with a range of up to 8 km. The Mavic 2 series utilizes DJI’s upgraded OcuSync 2.0 system which supports automatic switching between 2.4GHz and 5.8 GHz frequency bands to maintain the strongest connection possible with the least amount of interference. For users who may be flying in more extreme conditions or more remote areas, the Mavic 2 would be a more reliable choice as it does not rely on a WIFI transmission system like the Mavic Mini. The drone can also handle more extreme temperatures and wind speeds than the Mavic Mini including wind speeds up to 29-38 km/h and temperatures between -10°C to 40°C under warranty.
Obstacle Avoidance & Safety in Flight
One thing the Mavic Mini lacks is an obstacle avoidance system, something that has essentially become a standard feature for DJI enterprise and consumer drones. The Mavic Mini features only downward-facing sensors in combination with its GPS to keep position in the air. For added safety, users can equip the Mavic Mini with the 360° Propeller Guard which will make the drone weigh more than 250 grams. This means that in some countries drone pilots will have to obtain a license to fly with the propeller guards attached.
A highlight of the Mavic 2 is its upgraded omnidirectional obstacle avoidance system including 2 front camera sensors, two bottom facing sensors, one bottom facing infrared sensor, two rear camera sensors, one camera on the left and right side of the drone, and even one upward facing infrared sensor for safer flights in the air. The obstacle avoidance sensing in the left and right directions are only available in certain intelligent flight modes including QuickShot, Tripod, ActiveTrack, and POI. With its upgraded obstacle avoidance system, the Mavic 2 can scan its environment in real-time to better detect and avoid obstacles to ultimately provide users with safer, collision-free flights.
Intelligent Flight Modes
The Mavic Mini comes with some intelligent flight modes including four QuickShots modes, Return-to-Home, and CineSmooth Mode, but does not feature some of DJI’s most popular intelligent modes such as ActiveTrack and Waypoints. With QuickShots, users will be able to capture dynamic footage with just a tap. The QuickShots modes include Helix, Dronie, Rocket, and Circle. In CineSmooth Mode, the Mavic Mini’s speed and movement will be slowed down so that users have more control over their footage. This mode is particularly useful for flights in complex environments or tight spaces. With Return-to-Home, the Mavic Mini will automatically return to the spot it was launched from at the press of a button or when it detects that is has a low battery or has lost signal.
The Mavic 2 features a much larger selection of all of DJI’s most popular intelligent flight modes including TapFly, Point of Interest, ActiveTrack, Tripod Mode, Return-to-Home and Cinematic Mode to name just a few. Its newly upgraded ActiveTrack 2.0 is improved to generate a 3D map of its environment in real-time to better map out and predict a subject’s movements. The Mavic 2 also features six QuickShots modes so that users can capture dynamic shots with the tap of a button including Dronie, Boomerang, Circle, Rocket, Helix, and Asteroid.
Which Drone is Right for you?
Both the Mavic Mini and Mavic 2 are powerful drones in their own right delivering exceptional performance and ground-breaking specs. Each drone provides unique advantages to the user depending on what they are primarily looking to use the drone for.
If you are a beginner or casual drone enthusiast seeking a highly reliable, safe, and fun drone without having to worry about the complication of government regulations than the Mavic Mini would be a perfect choice. The drone features an incredible range and battery life for its size, and though the camera cannot shoot in 4K which could be a deterrent for some, its 2.7K 12-megapixel camera will still deliver stunning aerial footage for the average user. While it is also missing some of DJI’s most familiar features including an obstacle avoidance system or the popular ActiveTrack intelligent flight mode, the Mavic Mini still surpasses expectations when it comes to performance and ease-of-use. Overall, the Mavic Mini is the ideal drone for entry-level or recreational users who want an affordable option, and a drone for everyday use.
On the other hand, the Mavic 2 series is a higher-end model with powerful functions capable of providing users with semi-professional video footage. With its stronger OcuSync 2.0 Transmission system the Mavic 2 is also more ideal for users who may potentially be flying in more remote areas, landscapes, or mountains. For those looking to use a drone for more professional applications, want more options in the post-production process and the highest quality camera, the Mavic 2 Pro is the ideal choice. Meanwhile, Mavic 2 Zoom is a more affordable option for those who want to capture dynamic shots in the air or want to shoot scenes with the least amount of disturbance to the surrounding environment as possible.
Between the Mavic Mini and Mavic 2 series, drone enthusiasts of any level will be able to find the perfect companion to take their creative or professional endeavors to all new heights. Whether you are just dipping your toes into the world of drones, or ready to launch your next business venture, DJI has once again given drone lovers powerful, reliable options to take to the skies and beyond.

DJI Osmo Pocket Camera Gimbal: Price, Specs, Release Date
New Post has been published on https://www.articletec.com/dji-osmo-pocket-camera-gimbal-price-specs-release-date-3/
DJI Osmo Pocket Camera Gimbal: Price, Specs, Release Date
Back in 2015, drone-maker DJI began putting some of its image-stabilization technology into hand-held camera gimbals. The first, called the Osmo, was well-received among the prosumer crowd, because it let users capture unshaky video on either a smartphone or on the device itself. Since then, DJI has released a series of updates to the Osmo, including the smartphone-supporting Osmo Mobile.
Now DJI is putting out its most pocketable Osmo ever—suitably named the Osmo Pocket. It’s DJI’s smallest three-axis gimbal so far, measuring slightly over four inches tall. It has a tiny color touchscreen, so you can see and control your video capture directly from the device, or you can attach your smartphone via USB-C or Lightning and use your phone as a viewfinder. And since the Pocket has the same camera sensor as the Mavic Pro, Mavic Air, and Mavic 2 Zoom drones, it captures 12-megapixel still images and 4K video at up to 60 frames per second.
DJI
At the risk of droning on, there are also some interesting software features included with the Osmo Pocket. DJI’s ActiveTrack feature, which trains the smartphone camera lens to follow a subject, has been available in its mobile app for awhile. Now ActiveTrack will work directly on the Pocket’s built-in camera.
On top of that, there’s a new feature called FaceTrack, which enables the on-device camera to identify a human face and lock it in frame, even as that person starts to move out of frame or looks up and down. During a brief demo of the new Osmo Pocket, the camera module swiveled around to keep me in frame when FaceTrack mode was enabled, like a tiny robot head following me around the room.
Other capture settings will be available in DJI’s newest mobile app, called Mimo. This includes “Pro Mode,” which automatically detects low light scenes and lets you adjust exposure settings, and “Story Mode,” which stitches together select video clips for you. The Pocket also captures wide-angle still photos, ideal for large-group selfies, and appears to make capturing panoramic photos stupidly simple.
The Osmo Pocket will be available for pre-order today for $349, and will ship in mid-December. $349 isn’t cheap, and buyers will likely want to invest in accessories at some point, whether a WiFi module, a mount, or an extension rod. DJI also plans to ship a 3.5mm adapter for an external microphone, in case the onboard audio capture and noise cancellation doesn’t cut it; we have yet to test this out.
But DJI has still managed to undercut GoPro, which sells the Hero 7 for $400. Given the Osmo’s size and on-device capture abilities, it’s not a stretch to think that DJI might be looking to eat some of GoPro’s lunch with this thing. Often these kinds of gimbals are used in conjunction with a GoPro, but if the on-device capture is this good with the Osmo, then you could see how someone might decide not to buy an additional camera with it. DJI even claims that the tiny Osmo’s battery will last for up to two hours of continuous 4K video shooting, which, if true, could very well surpass any GoPro’s battery life.
Of course, the Osmo Pocket isn’t waterproof (though DJI says a waterproof case is in the works) and it’s hard to imagine propping it up on your helmet or wearing it as part of a chest harness while you’re crushing it on the slopes. GoPro still has all the advantages of that small, square form factor. And the Hero7 has its own impressive, “HyperSmooth” image stabilization technology.
But for YouTubers and others aspiring to be video influencers, a small, sub-$400, stabilized video camera that actually tracks your face and follows you around while you’re living your Best Life™ might just be the best thing since, well, the previous Osmo. DJI says it will continue to sell all of its earlier handheld camera models, including the original Osmo and the Osmo Mobile 2, although availability will depend on region. Right now the Osmo Mobile 2 is selling in the US for just $139.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro hands on review
New Post has been published on https://www.etechwire.com/dji-mavic-2-pro-hands-on-review/
DJI Mavic 2 Pro hands on review
The DJI Mavic 2 Pro is the most powerful consumer drone you can buy thanks to its gimbal-stabilized Hasselblad camera with a 1-inch CMOS sensor for stunning aerial 4K video and photos.
It’s one of two foldable drones Chinese brand DJI just launched, further cementing it as the king of drones in 2018 and giving us a sequel to the likeable DJI Mavic Pro (which we’ll call the Mavic Pro 1 in this hands-on review for convenience).
What’s new? It mostly comes down to the camera quality and the smarter modes for capturing video and photos. The picture is brighter on the DJI Mavic 2 Pro vs the DJI Mavic Pro 1 without being blown out. You’ll to see a difference side-by-side.
Comparisons matter when it comes to the price, too: it’s noticeably more expensive. And even with superior 10-bit HDR video, an adjustable aperture, and a built-in Hyperlapse mode, the alluring power behind the Mavic 2 Pro doesn’t guarantee it will sit at the top of our best drones 2018 list. It’s not that easy; DJI has DJI to blame.
The new DJI Mavic 2 Zoom is slightly cheaper and features a 2x optical zoom lens – it can shift from 24mm to a 48mm in 4K (for a 2x zoom), and simulate 96mm in Full HD (4x the zoom). It’s all done with a gesture on your smartphone that sits inside the controller clamshell. The downside? It uses a smaller 1/2.3-inch CMOS camera sensor.
DJI just made your life more difficult by introducing two compelling drone choices if you’re looking to spend considerable cash on a consumer drone. Everyone else with a smaller budget should look no further than the still-excellent DJI Mavic Air, our pick for first-time fliers.
Release date and price
DJI dropped a bombshell on us at its launch event when it announced that the DJI Mavic 2 Pro release date was August 23 – that very day – with orders going out right away. The Mavic 2 Zoom is ready to ship within one business day, too.
The Mavic 2 Pro price is decidedly more expensive than the Mavic Pro 1 worldwide. It costs $1,499 (£1,299, AU$2,299). Compare these prices to the Mavic Pro 1, which was  £899, $999 and AU$1,349 at launch.
Right in between those prices is the Mavic 2 Zoom at a little more tolerable $1,249 (£1,099, AU$1,900), but still considerably expensive. Whichever new drone you get, you’re going to expect a lot for your money.
We’ll continue to test the new DJI drones before rendering a judgment in a full DJI Mavic 2 Pro review, but this appears to be the foldable drone to buy if you want the best on a consumer level. While we test it, enjoy these photos of the drone from the launch event.

Drone Use In The Maritime and Yachting Atmosphere
dron Present day Drones are outstanding devices that are capable of carrying out wonderful points in the maritime and yachting atmosphere. They can be employed to location schools of fish, locate a mooring or open up area in a marina to fall anchor, identify an assigned slip, preview an unspoiled seaside or island, track down items or people that dropped overboard, capture great online video and nonetheless pictures of the boat possibly at anchor or underway, or even drop safety or other tools to remote spots. Nevertheless, Drones need to have to he dealt with in different ways when utilised in the terrestrial or land use environments, in addition to precise styles that are much better suited for the marina and yachting environments. 1: Forms and Types of Drones There are a quantity of difficulties that should be considered when picking out a Drone for this setting: DJI and Yuneec make a variety of Drones able of use in this setting. The Splash Drone is water resistant and would make a fantastic Drone for this atmosphere. GoPro and DJI have just released small new designs that "fold" and match in little backpacks and are capable of traveling for 20+ minutes in twenty+ knots of wind! A: Sizing - consider how and exactly where you will store your Drone aboard your yacht - on a bunk, in a storage locker, in the cockpit. The Drone should be stored in a safe and sound site the place guests and crew will not drop products on the Drone or knock or kick the Drone. B: Flight Time - look at flight time and battery capability. Small Drones may have much less then 10 minutes flight time although even bigger Drones fly up to twenty five minutes. For informal video clips, 10 minutes flight time may well be plenty of, on the other hand if you system to use the Drone to find schools of fish or distant moorings, then consider acquiring a Drone with for a longer time flight times. C: Camera- Several Drones come outfitted with their own digital camera, even though other people are equipped to make use of exterior cameras like a Gopro or DSLR. Included cameras assortment from reduced resolution with photos stored on a memory card although other individuals are able of 4K resolution (broadcast quality) and relaying are living photos by means of WIFI to a smart phone, pill, or controller Liquid crystal display screens. External cameras normally offer the proprietor far more choices and better resolutions, but may possibly not be thoroughly built-in with the involved controller system. An case in point is the Yuneec Storm G established up to use the GoPro Hero3 or four 4K cameras. This is a good established up able of unusually secure movie in most windy ailments. However, although the operator can see what the digicam sees on the Hurricane controller Liquid crystal display monitor, the controller is not ready to management any of the functions of the GoPro camera- and the operator demands to activate the movie file button on the GoPro prior to taking off and then can only shut off video recording immediately after the Drone is retrieved. Built-in cameras commonly can be managed from the controller. D: Skill to deal with windy ailments - This is a substantial issue that operators need to have to preserve in brain when purchasing a Drone. Numerous of the smaller and more mature Drones, like an more mature Parrot AR Drone or a newer SYMA X5SW Drone deficiency quite a few functions and do not have the capability to stabilize flight when confronted with far more then 5-10 knots of wind. Additionally, these Drones do not have stabilized gimbled digicam mounts to easy out the wobble and gyrations in windy situations. Bigger Drones and Drones with far better electronic devices and gimbled digital camera mounts aboard have superior large wind online video abilities. E: Retrievable - numerous modest Drones do not have "residence" capability and are challenging to land in any problem. Most new Drones have a highly created "house" functionality and are able to land back to their beginning site automatically. Most, if not all Drones currently, make use of GPS. Other Drones use a hand-held or wrist mounted product so the Drone can "home in" on the controller or other gadget spot. More recent Drones incorporate a mixture of Optical Recognition and the GPS area of the controller. The most up-to-date DJI Drone has a down-searching digicam that can take 1000's of photos as it will take off and then compares the photographs to the landing spot. In my belief, this is wonderful technology if you are working with the Drone from a shifting yacht or boat! A different attribute that more recent Drones incorporate is item collision know-how that permits the Drone to "see" and avoid ships sides, radar arches, and other structures that may possibly interfere with the flight or landing. two. Risk-free Use of a Drone aboard - A Drone is a robotic that utilizes large driven motors to change propellers - propellers that are capable of major damage in the party that the Drone tends to make make contact with with the operator or visitors aboard. Operators ought to be informed of who is around the Drone, both equally taking off and landing. Also, operators must stay away from hitting radar arches, outriggers, flags, fly bridges and other yacht and ship constructions. Operators need to be confident to program how they will use the Drone - from the bow, from the stern, from an open up bridge or bridge top rated. 3. Safe and sound Storage of A Drone Aboard - I hugely advocate that a padded smooth or difficult scenario be applied to transport and shop a Drone aboard a yacht, boat or ship. Bringing a Drone aboard a yacht, boat or ship with out storage safety is inquiring for hurt to occur. 4. Upkeep of Your Drone When Aboard - Be sure to contain a smaller instrument kit with tools for use on a Drone: tiny pliers and screw drivers, tiny Allen wench established, spare screws, smaller wrench established, nuts and propeller locks, propeller removal software, tiny pocket knife, zip ties, tape, terminal cleaning spray, silicon spray to guard your Drone from salt water and salt air, and so forth. A big contemporary water spray bottle will be essential to clean off salt water in the function your Drone goes swimming!

12 Tips Every Brand Should Incorporate Into a Live Stream Marketing Campaign
By now, you’ve probably seen how live content gets pushed to the top of every stream on your social media feeds. You probably even get push notifications on your apps when someone goes live. It’s not a coincidence, but more of a calculated effort from companies like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Twitch to be the leaders of a space that is still in its infancy. Facebook even took to the streets to teach people how to go live on buses, transit shelters, billboards, and TV ads!
While tech companies have focused on getting their users to go live, they know that the eventual play is to gain that almighty advertising dollar. Almost every brand already has a video marketing strategy, and many have begun to test live stream marketing. Early adopters of new tech mediums have often been rewarded with followers and media attention, even though their content has typically had very little production value. Ask yourself, could “Charlie Bit My Finger” on YouTube be a viral hit today?
After documenting the early efforts of live stream marketing from all brands and industries, I began to notice a trend amongst the video efforts of those that had the most success, based on views and engagement. In this blog, I’ll share 12 tips that brands should incorporate and consider in their live stream marketing campaigns to succeed in this new landscape.
Plan Wisely
1. Hang Loose
You should have a bullet-pointed agenda of what you want to cover and in roughly what order, that reinforces your objective. Scripting out too much of your live stream dialogue often leads to a robotic presentation with unnecessary pressure. When Dunkin’ Donuts went live to create buzz for their free donut giveaway on National Donut Day, they loosely showed viewers how to make donuts by taking them through their test kitchen. This allowed Dunkin’ to create a casual environment for users to engage with the brand.
2. Show, Not Tell
During your live stream, make sure the host/presenter shows the viewer and demonstrates. This is more powerful and visually interesting than simply telling the viewer information because it allows the camera to follow the action, which keeps the audience engaged.
3. Time!
Your live stream does not have to live in anyone else’s shadow. Unlike scripted television series, you don’t have to have 21 minutes of pre-recorded storyline or as with commercials—15 or 30 seconds to get the point across and sell, sell, sell. Dunkin’ Donuts went 12 minutes. DJI went one hour and 17 minutes. Be efficient, but don’t pressure yourself to stick to a certain timeframe.
4. Don’t Jump the Gun
What concert have you been to that starts on time? Or NBA Finals? Super Bowl? If you’re at a concert, you’re typically looking at a 30-minute delay. At sporting events, 10 minutes is common practice. These delays allow stragglers to get settled and builds anticipation for the main event. Leave a graphic up for 5 – 10 minutes with something as simple as, “Live Stream will begin shortly,” which is what DJI did for the launch of their Mavic Pro event. Caveat: Know your audience. If they are a prompt group of people, this may not work—but you won’t know without testing it.
Don’t Forget To Promote It
5. Tease It Out
What good is a live stream event if your biggest fans aren’t in the know? Send an email, post on your social accounts, and keep posting. For the announcement of Game of Thrones’ Season 7 premiere date, HBO announced a live stream event, for which they burned a block of ice to reveal the date. Even before the event, they teased it with a short 12-second video earlier that day.
Make Your Event Stand Out
6. Amplify
If you go through all the trouble of planning out a live event with multiple moving pieces, wouldn’t you want to gain new potential customers? People who are subscribed to your YouTube channel, or “Like” your Facebook page, may get a push notification that you’re going live, but what about everyone else that may be interested? Amplifying allows your live stream to go live on all your social channels, while also serving your live stream as a native ad placement on relevant publisher networks and through social media influencers to garner more viewers to your live stream.
7. Incentivize
People have the world at their fingertips when it comes to on-demand entertainment. Offer an incentive for why they should tune in to your live stream. Maybe that is a raffle, reward or loyalty points, or a sneak peek at some exclusive content. Don’t forget that sometimes you have to give something to get something.
8. K.I.S.S.—Keep It Simple, Stupid
This old television journalism mantra encourages on-air reporters to pare everything down so it is easily digestible by a wide audience segment. Sometimes it’s not in the best interest for a topic expert to tell a story to the masses. They have a tendency to be too close to the subject, which makes it difficult for them to succinctly explain to someone who may know nothing of the topic. Aim for easily consumable content.
9. Guest Stars
There’s a reason talk shows—radio, web, or television—are so engaging; They have guests! Each guest is a surprise element to an otherwise mundane, one-person setup. A new face and voice can lend credibility, fresh interaction, and expertise. Look for guests that are complimentary to your business—like partners, or look at the influencers in your space and invite them to participate.
10. Participation Points
Ask for comments and questions in the comments section. For Facebook, this helps a live stream show up on 3rd party user’s newsfeeds. During Game of Thrones’ live stream, they encouraged viewers to comment with “Fire” or “Dracarys” to help reveal the season premiere date, which pushed users to generate the activities needed for virality. Asking for comments and questions doesn’t just need to happen at the beginning or end, remember in live video viewers jump in and out of watching it. Invite people to comment or ask questions a few times throughout your stream.
11. Call-To-Action
Don’t end a live stream without telling the audience what they should be doing next. Whether it’s the release date of a product, how to claim their offer, or teasing/inviting them to the next live stream—always offer direction.
Measurement Is Always Important
 12. What’s Next?
Just because a live stream event is over, doesn’t mean your work is done! Go over the analytics and metrics, look at where you experienced peak viewership and engagement, how could you have positioned the camera better for higher quality image and sound, or prepped your guest? Then apply your learnings in your next live stream event plan.
A live stream event does not need to be a huge production. Many of the campaigns I’ve seen documented were as simple as watching a professional athlete sign a contract (Adidas), touring a company’s closet (DKNY), and even seeing how many rubber bands it would take to explode a watermelon (courtesy of Buzzfeed). The important thing is for brands to take advantage of the immediacy and intimacy that a live stream brings. Fans and followers are eager for content, which tech companies already know is the next big thing. They’re just laying the groundwork until advertisers and brands catch on.
I’d love to hear about your successes and failures with live streaming. Whether it’s your first time or your 100th, we can always learn from each other.
