#like. ok. prefaced with i dont necessarily disagree w post that showed up on my dash about sometimes pronouncing ppls names correctly#is not possible because of language sounds/etc#like yes. i agree. but like.#you seem to be white. with a european name. and like.#i cannot emphasize enough how much you are NOT the focus of discussions of ppl pronouncing names correctly#like yes all names should be pronounced as correctly as they can be. if a person is asking you to say their name a certain way#whether thats the true* pronunciation or not#but like. its not about just a random person being unable to pronounce the name of some random person#it is almost ALWAYS an issue wrt people of color's names being too difficult to pronounce.#it is so often about racialized othering.#so no i dont really feel the desire to like backtrack on the 'pronounce names correctly' train lmfaooo#and its certainly a position that a (presumed) white person can take but like. is it truly that needed.#do you reaaaaaally need to explain linguistics and phonemes as a reason for not pronouncing a name correctly?#or should we maybe focus on just doing your best w the name a person gives you#ESPECIALLY if its a person of color#and not finding a reason to excuse it.#again not that i fully disagree w the post even im just like. smells like you need to think critically lmao
