The vkei archive I never finished

Before vkgy was created, there were a few blogs here and there, not on tumblr, those that finished in sth like "blog.(insert country ending)" or with their own domain holding libraries with bands. Most were missing bands though so having 1 site with every band that has ever existed is so damn good. You don't have to run around to find basic info anymore. But as I was revamping my portfolio now, I couldn't help but want to reuse some of the things I did for my own archive that I never finished and got nostalgic xD.

I too wanted to make a page like that after the last good library/archive blog we had, was closed. I was on a simple fb fanpage, at the time, sharing news for 5 years, with 2 more people, but eventually ended up doing it alone. So yeah, after the admin of that archive told us they were leaving I wanted it to take over and give chance to every band, disbanded or not, to be seen. Sth bigger than a fanpage on fb. And I wanted the page to be fully visual. It's still here, just locked. (btw vkgy had already been live a year prior to when i started making mine, it was just still unknown to most fans, me included, hence why I felt like making an archive of my own)

It was full of gifs. Like this one from a pv of, I think it was Moran. The girl was plugging her earphones in a book and a jrocker appeared before her. Like the moment she connected her earphones to any book in that library, her fantasy was supposed to come to life. xD Very beautiful pv imo.

Anyway. I just wanted to show what I had made, not only because I had done some cool designs, but also because this was one of the biggest proofs of how much I love the scene.

I had the artists listed alphabetically. And their names showed up in little players with a gif. As you understand I would have definitely got a copyright strike for all of that, as, if I had made so many gifs, it meant I owned 100s of mvs, which obviously I didn't.

There was a song title on each player and it was a song I recommended from each, hence why Sakura of Ace up there had a promo pic instead. When a song I chose to recommend didn't have a pv, I had to use a promo pic instead.

But visual kei isn't only about music, so I wanted to have other pages you could browse including:

Visual Kei bars. Several vkei rockers, after leaving the stage, chose to open visual kei focused bars. One of them, was one of my favorite bassists. I had to promote my boy so, I went on a long search to find as many vkei bars I could. Problem was, most bars that were opened were actually rock bars, not visual kei. And Velu, which I have on this header, ending up being a host club in disguise so yeah... xD

Visual Kei fashion brands. While a few visual kei artists managed to make a name for their clothing brands, others didn't do that well. When I went searching artists who had a clothing brand of their own, I was surprised by how many I didn't know xD. I was like sir, when did you open that?! So I wanted to make a page on that blog listing all those brands so that you could find their stuff and why not support them as well if you liked sth.

Visual Kei movies. Judging from how well my Vkei movies masterpost went, I bet you would have loved this subpage. :P I wanted to list all those movies here. But hey, even though I didn't finish the page, I gathered them all in one post and it still worked. Plus I got a few extra I didn't know about in with the help of other fans.

Visual kei music labels. Tired of how music labels treated the artists, I wanted to focus on promoting those ran by actual jrockers, but then I changed my mind and added everything. Eeevery music label with vkei artists. After all, there were several labels ran by vkei bandmen that treated the rest of bands under their wing just as bad. Still, back then labels were important, so I thought it was good helping people know who's pulling which label's strings.

Translations. Ooh this was my favorite header xD. Here I wanted to list translations I found on other blogs. I'd reblog them and tag them under each band name. (however I can see how my screen joke could be misinterpreted now. ^^'> In my defense, it was the only video I had that looked remotely like sb saying "Oh! I get it now!")

Blog suggestions. Back then there were several blogs focusing on different bands, others focused on just translations, lots of stuff, in general. So under this header I'd list those fanpages so that if sb was looking for content from a specific band, they could find everything at specifically focused blogs.

So yeah, while I miss this project and wish I had finished it, I'm also glad I didn't have to do all that by myself. Pages like vkgy are really important to our fandom, so consider yourselves very lucky you don't have to research for hours for simple stuff, new gen fans! >< xD (they even explain the different types of vkei. I had to learn that from experience and observation! xD)
