Hart siblings. <3

Vale Hart (left) was my character in our Spelljammer campaign. He was created from scavenged pieces of different creatures- an elven washerwoman, a dragonborn knight, a human, a deer, a dryad- by a person he knew only as Flower. She left very soon after his creation.

Months later, he and his party found Flower (aka Dr Viella) out in Doomspace. By then, he knew that she had personally killed the people whose body parts he inherited. He refused to talk to her (especially when she only called him 'Subject 12' and talked about him as a curiosity more than a person), until he learned that he had a sister- Viella's most recent experiment, Subject 36.

As a player, I hadn't known about Subject 36, and was so excited to meet her! Much like Vale she was a patchwork of different beings. She was a great artist, and dreamed of going out into the universe and finding more beautiful things to draw. However, Viella would never let this happen. Vale could see that his sister was only an experiment to their creator, but the plan to kill Viella was complicated by needing to get Subject 36 out of the way. She didn't know the truth and, since Vale discovering his origin had destroyed his sense of identity and plunged him into a depression, he thought it would be better for Subject 36 to never find out what a despicable person Viella was.

Vale and Subject 36 quickly bonded, in spite of Viella constantly chiding Vale for 'interfering with the experiment.' Eventually, after Viella's destruction, Subject 36 chose a name for herself: Robin Hart, now sharing her brother's surname.

At the end of the adventure, Vale gave up his life to save the others (and multiple planets....nbd!), and his last thoughts were of Robin. My DM narrated a little epilogue, where the party carried out Vale's promise to find new homes for some displaced species, and Robin lived on Toril for a while. Eventually though she felt the call of the stars, and joined the crew in their space adventures!

While I was sad to lose Vale (READ: I cried for half an hour after the session), I love Robin a lot. She was an important NPC to me and my character, and that last note about her joining the crew felt too perfect. My DM agreed to let me play her as my PC when we resume gaming in that world later this year.

I'm excited to be able to continue with the Hart siblings. I had originally planned to make Robin a bard, but since it's a one-on-one campaign playing a support character could feel a bit meh. So now I'm thinking she'll be a wizard, using her paintbrush as her spellcasting focus and painting her spells.
