I have a reoccurring dream about my ex boyfriend. We have been broken up for over a year. Our relationship was 3.5 years long and was incredibly toxic. In this dream, we live in a cabin in the middle of the woods and we get along so well. The dream goes the same every time, he goes grocery shopping and I stay home. When he gets home he brings a girl home with him and they have sex in front of me, but I'm not upset in my dream. Then I go to sleep in my dream and wake up irl. Any major messages?

Relationships can have a long-lasting effect, especially when they’re of a toxic nature. Having a negative relationship with someone for upwards of 3 years or more can skew perspectives as well. Coming from someone who has unfortunately been in a similar situation, I know the feeling very well. 

You both living in the middle of the woods is a very good example of an isolated area. This may represent feelings of isolation during your relationship, whether it be from friends, family or anyone in general. I don’t know the extent of your relationships negative traits so I could interpret the both of you getting along so well as either a learned tolerance of what you were put through or a fantasy of what you wish it had been instead. 

Your ex-boyfriend leaving and bringing home another girl only to sleep with her in front of you, especially without getting any rise of emotion out of you, may signify how much you were willing to or actually putting up within that relationship. This could show insecurities as well, possibly a fear of being hurt so bad that you’re ready to block it out to protect yourself. But being that numb to infidelity and emotional abuse like that is definitely a sign of losing a part of yourself during your relationship. 

Your dream being recurring may show feelings you haven't fully gotten over or the extent of what the relationship has put you through. I’m sorry you had to go through something I can only assume to be very toxic. As cliche as it sounds, there is always a silver lining, even when that silver lining is just growth and knowledge of personalities/people you should avoid to help yourself in the future. I hope your dreams hold happier things for you to enjoy in the future!
