ECOATM — S-T (Great Corner Sound)
Tumblr media
Detroit invented techno in the 1980s and 1990s, fusing the android-synth propulsion of Kraftwerk to the hedonistic excesses of disco and Chicago house. In the years since, machine-tooled electronics have continued to flourish and bleed into other genres in the Wolverine State (see the Dirtbombs’ fabulous covers album, Party Store, reviewed here by Emerson Dameron).Much fertile ground, then, lays open for Dr. Pete Larson’s new Michigan-centric electronic imprint Great Corner Sound to explore. This opening salvo from ECOATM is a very good start.
Great Corner Sound is somewhat cagey about exactly who is involved in ECOATM, though Larson has hinted (broadly, see photo above) that Michigan all-arounder Fred Thomas (of His Name Is Alive, Saturday Looks Good to Me, Tyvek, Idle Ray, Winged Wheel, etc.)is the man behind the curtain. If so, it’s a radically new look for him.ECOATM doesn’t sound like any of his previous bands.
The disc starts with skittery “Deluge,” an antic skirmish of drums and synthesizer that erupts periodically into full-on battery. It moves quickly and lightly, rattle-stomping barrages of terse snare and cymbals like gloves on a speed bag.“Stimulus Check” leaves more negative space between its thumps and rattles, an altered voice popping up on off-beats like a stuttery ghost. You can feel a drummer’s sensibility (again, maybe Thomas, maybe not) in the way these cuts box up time in tight, inelastic packages, a music made of points and vacancies, no colors.
Yet not everything is a rush and a clatter. Some of these cuts run surprisingly lyrical, with long echoing synth tones that sculpt otherworldly shapes in the air.“Glass Yard,” for instance, flickers and glows, nearly rhythmless as its bright notes blink on and off. “Dawnless” moves ponderously, a big drum boom punctuating the end of glittering glass-bead guitar lines. And “As You Said” floats in a percolating unreal synth space, the thump of kickdrum anchoring airy iterations of keyboard motifs.
It's all pretty good, surgically scrubbed but not unwelcoming, the kind of clean well-lighted sonic space that invites cogitation rather than bodily motion.Whoever made it (maybe Fred Thomas!) was from Michigan, continuing a mighty tradition of electronic experiment.Roll on Motor City.

Theory
In this post I will try to guess who Eleanor is and what role she plays in the plot. Enjoy reading.
– Acquaintance with Eleanor.
Before I start discussing her, I want you to roughly know and understand who she is.
Eleanor is the antagonist of the Fazbear's Fright series of books, appearing in the chapter "Being Beautiful" and the epilogues.
Eleanor has a painted face with pink cheeks and lips. Her red hair is braided in two tight pigtails, and her green eyes with long eyelashes look a little like a child from the circus. She has a smooth body with grayish skin, a long neck, a thin waist, rounded bust and hips. Her arms and legs are long and thin. Her body is also small and light, as seen when Larson easily threw her to the sides.
She is an evil and manipulative creature, prone to lies and deceit. She likes to tease and mock her opponents by winking at Jake after he has absorbed the evil contained in the Stack Ghost and telling Sarah that her wish came true when she was dying. Until now, the only person with whom she had any positive relationship was William Afton, as evidenced by the fact that she gave him the strength to create a merger and supported him when he was too weak. However, she was actually using him for her own purposes.
In addition, Eleanor used Andrew's infected things to her advantage: it was she who gave the Plush Toy Hunter his human eyes and teeth. It was she who tortured Delilah at 1:35 a.m., implying that Eleanor was experiencing Ella's Agony. She held Pete after he was hit by a truck in the movie "Closer to the Step." She was the great evil that was inside William Afton and popped out of his body. There is a version that she was the second signal in his brain when he was a patient. She was also the one who clung to Toby's shadow, appearing as RWQFSFASXC from the arcade game, inheriting his competitive nature in hide and seek, and was the one who pushed Sam under the train in Blackbird.
-Agony.
Well, when you've read this, it's time to start analyzing personality. And the first thing I would like to talk about is that Eleanor is an agony associated with an egg pit.
In this case, her existence is similar to that of Kelsey (the Newcomer), who may also have been created out of agony.
I will express my opinion: I agree with this theory, but not completely. Eleanor was most likely a Pitbonnie, because Pitbonnie, like Eleanor, had a black mustache. Perhaps Eleanor really knows how to travel in the pit, but she is not connected with this, but with balls. If she had been bound, she probably would have taken the rest from the soul balls, but she didn't, implying she couldn't. She just uses the power of the pit, but not the composition of the pit.
Eleanor was involved in Larson's nightmares, so maybe she's connected to his mind.
-Charlie in the trilogy.
There is a version that Eleanor is a creature similar to the robot Charlie from the trilogy.
I think so because she has a human body and the ability to transform into other people in the form of an illusory disk. At the same time, the name Eleanor is another form of the name Ella, like the Charlie doll.
Perhaps Eleanor was created by Dr. Talbert to revive Renelle after her death. The drawings of Charlie's bodies could have been found by him completely by accident.
-PitBonny.
As I said earlier, Eleanor was most likely a Pitbonnie before the events of the epilogues. This proves that PitBonny, like Eleanor, cried with a black mustache and had disks of illusions, rushed at everyone.
Perhaps Afton was even obsessed with Eleanor when he killed Bonnie in a spring suit. That's cool.
-Patient out of 46.
There is a theory that Eleanor may be a patient from 46, which is based on the fact that patient 46 looks like a person, but very unnatural, which is consistent with Eleanor's ability to disguise herself as people, as well as the fact that they seem to be related to William.
This sounds very interesting, and it's possible that Eleanor is probably the second signal keeping Afton alive. She could keep him at a distance. Unsurprisingly, the authors mentioned patient 46.
-Shadows.
There are rumors that Eleanor may be Bonnie's Shadow and Freddie's Shadow from the fnaf plot.
This is proved by the chapter "Hide and Seek", where the Shadow of Bonnie, who was Eleanor at that historical moment, came for you. Plus, Freddy's Shadow in the canon always brought back memories to the main character and was like a signal not to forget the past, and Eleanor has the same abilities. It looks like it.
-A Nightmarish Puppet.
And then hardcore starts for the Old fnaf.
There is a version that Eleanor, under someone's guidance, takes the form of a Nightmarish Puppet and torments children in their nightmares. This proves a security breach when we found Nightmare Doll toys in a room with a sleeping girl.
Eleanor's resemblance to a Puppet from a Nightmare firsthand: they both have antennae, and they are both real material beings, unlike nightmares.
But what if the Crying baby was also Eleanor's victim? It turns out that it existed back in the days of FNAF 1, in 1994. It's scary to live.
-Elizabeth.
The most popular theory is that Eleanor is the new Elizabeth.
It is quite possible. Eleanor pursued Delilah, holding back Ella's agony. Ella, who appears in chapter 1:35 in the morning, may be a Child without disks. In this case, Eleanor is closely related to a Child without disks, as if the soul of this Child has moved into Eleanor's costume, becoming a perfect evil. It sounds brilliant, and those who support this theory are probably smiling now.
-Perfect hell.
Well, the last thing I want to notice is a full mention of hell in Eleanor's presence.
In the epilogues, words like occultism, hell, demonic being refer to Eleanor. Maybe it's just a birth from hell that feeds on agony. What other creature can feed on the torment of people?? Just a hellish creature.
An ordinary robot does not need this, moreover, Eleanor did not really like Afton and did not get the rest for him. She lives for herself. And everything else.

The Wolf Moon event has officially concluded.
While more information has been gathered on these mysterious beasts that terrorized the town and presented to the Supernatural City Council, they are no closer to being caught. One thing we may be certain of, though, is that Edgewood hasn’t seen the last of these fiends...
Below the cut is a summary of the events and encounters that took place over the weekend of the Wolf Moon.
In the days leading up to and during the full moon...
Frankie Holloway and Monty McAllister had a series of bizarre visions alluding to possible events taking place during the course of the Wolf Moon.
Friday, January 10th
Around 2:30PM an unusual howl was heard in The Outskirts. Not long after that, something attempts to enter the Mystery Shack. After the tour concludes, Phoenix Castillo discovers tracks around the building that head toward town.
As night falls and the moon rises higher, Monica Rodriguez took to the woods of The Outskirts. Here, she discovered a trail of red and blue colored tracks that smelled like blood and some kind of chemical. The tracks led towards town.
Around midnight, Bridgette Kingsley witnesses a cat-like creature attack Dr. Kenneth Blackthorne in the parking structure of Edgewood Memorial Hospital. While the security guard discovers the body and calls for a lockdown, a howl echoes from the city and the cat vanishes into the shadows.
At the same time, Charlotte Kingsley is run off the road near Old Edgewood by a massive wolf-like creature. She’s injured in the accident and makes it over the town line in time for the Veil to prevent the monster from mauling her. The same howl from the city draws the beast’s attention and it takes off toward it.
Saturday, January 11th
At 12:41AM, Monty McAllister finds Charlotte’s car and takes her to seek medical treatment. Due to the lockdown at Edgewood Memorial Hospital, they are rerouted to BHM.
Having heard the howl earlier in the night, around 3:00AM Logan Cree goes out to investigate the area. He covers from the North Star Lounge in Uptown to the Downtown area, and eventually discovers two bodies in an alley by the vampire bar Last Drop. One is still alive, but after touching Logan, she turns into a large wolf-like creature and attacks him. He’s left alive but injured, and with an unusual psychic connection to the beast’s other victims. Having sustained what he believed to be a werewolf bite, he seeks treatment at BHM.
The body of Nora Li-Marin is discovered around 4:00AM by police.
At 5:00AM, the lockdown is lifted at Edgewood Memorial Hospital and patients, visitors, and staff are allowed to leave.
Later that morning, Bridgette Kingsley relays what she saw at the hospital to the SCC’s witch representative, Rose-Marie Arceneaux. While there, she receives a phone call from her mother and learns of Charlotte’s accident.
Beatrice Larson gets the feeling something is following her, but every time she looks there’s nothing there.
Monica enlists Simon Romero-Martin and Ronan North to help her follow the trail she discovered in the woods the night before. Following the tracks, they discover two more sets of tracks heavily intersecting with the original. All three have a chemical smell, but a slightly different scent below that. The trail leads them to the Olympus subdivision and the golf club, both deep in Callaghan Pack territory. They inform Pete Callaghan of their discovery, and he takes the investigation from there.
After a morning of restfulness and healing, Charlotte gets restless and sneaks out of her room at BHM and goes exploring. She finds Logan Cree is also checked in and the two compare the events from the night before. Upon learning of Logan’s apparent connection to the creature, Charlotte attempts to scry for its location.
After all the... excitement of the night before, Xavier Bennett forgot to take his medication. As he goes about his day, he feels a presence following him as he runs errands and opens up the North Star Lounge for the evening. He serves a young woman asking odd questions about the attack the night before and swears he recognizes her from somewhere. It’s later he realizes he saw her in that day’s newspaper.
Sunday, January 12th
The body in the alley is officially identified as Nora Li-Marin. Publicly, her death is ruled as an overdose; the supernatural community know differently and host a vigil for her.
Late Sunday evening, Ernie Vesper was found critically injured in his warded bunker in the abandoned Olympus subdivision. He was found by Liam and Fiona Callaghan after Monica’s crew put the pack on the case.
Despite treatment of human and supernatural origin, Kenneth Blackthorne is unresponsive and his condition continues to deteriorate.
What We Know:
Three different creatures were involved in the attacks. While they resemble werebeasts, none of them were recognizable members of Edgewood were-packs or neighboring packs.
It’s likely they are not werebeasts at all, as the full moon did not seem to dictate their Changes, and their bite did not kill a vampire.
Two of the creatures resembled wolves, but larger and much larger than a normal wolf. The third resembled a large jaguar.
The jaguar is able to disappear into shadows, but also felt rage, relief, and fear while it carried out its attack.
The smaller of the two wolves was human before the touch of a supernatural turned her into her beastly form. She was fearful and apologetic before Changing quickly.
The larger of the two wolves is massive in size and seems to relish in the thrill of the chase.
The only known victims of these creatures’ attacks have been other supernatural beings. Christian Valentine, chief of police and SCC werewolf rep, still believes there may be other victims out there that haven’t been found yet.
Known victims include Dr. Kenneth Blackthorne (a warlock; deceased), Charlotte Kingsley (a witch; alive), Nora Li-Marin (a shifter; deceased), and Ernie Vesper (a shifter; alive).
Since the night of the Wolf Moon, no new attacks have occurred. Everyone injured by the beasts was attacked Friday night or Saturday morning.

Kirsten! I know you sometimes give out book recommendations and I was wondering if I could get some from you! I'm not picky with genre really, so anything that comes to mind would be great :) Thank you so much!
hi, darlin’! I most definitely have some book recommendations for you and, since you’re not too picky with genre, I’ll try to rec some from a few different ones
The Diviners by Libba Bray
Summary: Evie O'Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City--and she is pos-i-tute-ly ecstatic. It's 1926, and New York is filled with speakeasies, Ziegfeld girls, and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult. Evie worries he'll discover her darkest secret: a supernatural power that has only brought her trouble so far. But when the police find a murdered girl branded with a cryptic symbol and Will is called to the scene, Evie realizes her gift could help catch a serial killer. As Evie jumps headlong into a dance with a murderer, other stories unfurl in the city that never sleeps. And unknown to all, something dark and evil has awakened....
The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
Summary: The book is set in Chicago in 1893, interviewing the true tales of Daniel H. Burnham, the architect behind the 1893 World's Fair, and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the serial killer who lured his victims to their deaths in his elaborately constructed "Murder Castle.”
In the Woods by Tana French
Summary: As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. But when a twelve-year-old girl is found murdered in the same woods, he and Detective Cassie Maddox—his partner and closest friend—find themselves investigating a case chillingly similar to the previous unsolved mystery. Now, with only snippets of long-buried memories to guide him, Ryan has the chance to uncover both the mystery of the case before him and that of his own shadowy past.
The Line of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst
Summary: Nick Guest has moved in with the Feddens, a family whose patriarch is a conservative member of parliament. An innocent in matters of politics and money, Nick becomes caught up in the Feddens' world of parties and excess, as well as in his own private pursuit of beauty. Framed by the two general elections that returned Margaret Thatcher to power, The Line of Beauty unfurls through four extraordinary years of change and tragedy.
The Night Listener by Armistead Maupin
Summary: "I'm a fabulist by trade," warns Gabriel Noone, a late-night radio storyteller, as he begins to untangle the skeins of his tumultuous life: his crumbling ten-year love affair, his disaffection from his Southern father, his longtime weakness for ignoring reality. Gabriel's most sympathetic listener is Pete Lomax, a thirteen-year-old fan in Wisconsin whose own horrific past has left him wise and generous beyond his years. But when this virtual father-son relationship is rocked by doubt, a desperate search for the truth ensues. Welcome to the complex, vertiginous world of The Night Listener....
Meet Me in Venice by Elizabeth Adler
Summary: Precious Rafferty is an American antiques dealer living in Paris. Though Precious--known as Preshy--lives in the world's most romantic city, she keeps her feet firmly on the ground.  No man will ever sweep her off her feet. Until she meets Bennett James.  He's perfect in every way.  Is he too good to be true?  Granted, she doesn't know much about his business or personal life in Shanghai, but isn't it time to stop being so jaded about romance? And then her long-lost cousin Lily Song sends her an urgent message about Preshy's new love.  "Meet me in Venice" are Lily's cryptic words.
The Alienist by Caleb Carr
Summary: The year is 1896. The city is New York. Newspaper reporter John Schuyler Moore is summoned by his friend Dr. Laszlo Kreizler—a psychologist, or “alienist”—to view the horribly mutilated body of an adolescent boy abandoned on the unfinished Williamsburg Bridge. From there the two embark on a revolutionary effort in criminology: creating a psychological profile of the perpetrator based on the details of his crimes. Their dangerous quest takes them into the tortured past and twisted mind of a murderer who will kill again before their hunt is over.
Beren and Luthien by J. R. R. Tolkien
Summary: The love of Beren, a mortal man, and Lúthien, daughter of the Elven King of the forest realm of Doriath. The disapproval of Lúthien's father sends the two lovers on a series of perilous quests, but they rescue each other through bravery, music and love — with an assist from a magical dog.

Listed: Dr. Pete Larson
Tumblr media
Dr. Pete Larson runs Dagoretti Records now, he’s gotten there by an unusually long and winding road. Earlier in his career, Larson fronted 25 Suaves and Couch and ran BULB records. He also trained as an epidemiologist and spent time in Kenya studying the transmission of malaria. While in Kenya, he developed an interest in a lute-like eight-stringed instrument called a nyatiti and studied it with the master player Oduor Nyagweno. All these interests collide in a striking first album from Dr. Pete Larson and His Cytotoxic Nyatiti Band, where the nyatiti “cuts through a haze of electric rock distortion, pinging rhythmically and restlessly against floating euphorias of ululating vocals,” per Jennifer Kelly’s review. Here he lists some favorites from several continents.
I have been asked to create one of these lists for Dusted and here’s what I came up with. Making these lists is kind of difficult. I have a hard time remembering what I’ve been listening to at any moment, but here is a collection of old and new that get frequent airplay in my home. I play a Kenyan lyre, so this heavily leans toward lyre and harps and East African music in general, with some other choice cuts thrown in.
Musicians Of The National Dance Company Of Cambodia — Homrong (Real World Records)
youtube
I think I got this record (CD) back in the early 90s when I was selling music to Caroline Records. A friend sent me a box of CD promos, most of which wasn’t very interesting, but fortunately, this one was included. I don’t really know anything about Cambodian music, but for some reason, this collection of mid-tempo Cambodian court jamz plays every couple of months. Lots of weird sort of lurching rhythms and chorus singing with an erhu like instrument over it. A great listen.
Maleem Mahmoud Ghania w/ Pharoah Sanders — Trance of the Seven Colors
The Trance Of Seven Colors by Maleem Mahmoud Ghania w/ Pharoah Sanders
Trance inducing this is. Maleem Mahmoud Ghania is (was) one of the 20th century masters of Moroccan Gnawa music, a sort of spiritual, bass-heavy, rolling kind of music of Morocco. Any recording by Maleem Mahmoud is going to impress, but this mash of up of Gnawa with the great Pharoah Sanders is another level. If you are familiar with Gnawa music, it is a little disorienting to hear Sanders howl over the slow burn trance jamz but you are quickly drawn into what a perfect matchup this ended up being. Released on CD in the 90s, it fortunately has finally gotten a proper vinyl release.
Momoyama Harue — “Lullaby for the mother demon’s baby” (桃山晴衣* ‎– 鬼の女の子守唄)
youtube
I was playing the shamisen for a while (a three stringed lute from Japan) and found Momoyama Harue as part of my research. Shamisen is kind of a folky instrument for drinking parlors and entertainment of old Japan. The instrument and the music was nearly dead but saw a revival in the 1960s, similar to folk revivals in the US that brought the banjo back. Momoyama, however, was kind of an outlier, more arty than folky, and more poetry than song. Rather than box the music in an imagined past or try to hopelessly smash it into amplified rock music, she pushed it forward, blending it with ambient synth along with Indian and Middle Eastern musics. One of her best collaborations was with the great Egyptian oud player Hamza el Din that was nearly dead until the 1960s. All of the songs on this record are haunting (as the title suggests), but these tracks with el Din are truly singular. I have been searching for a vinyl copy of this record for years; one day I’ll get lucky.
Lucas Odote — “J. Oreng”
Nyatiti Singles Volume 1 by Lucas Odote
I spent several years in Kenya learning to play the nyatiti, an eight stringed lyre historically played by a group of people in an area around Lake Victoria. I also spent time collecting records, searching for hours in dusty boxes for Kenyan traditional music records. One of my best finds was at Jimmy’s Records in Kenyatta Markets, this record by the great Nairobi based nyatiti player Lucas Odote. Most nyatiti records are just a guy playing solo and more ethno than funky. But this one seems to be Lucas teaming up with what I think to be Nairobi funksters, the Loki Toki Tok band. At least that’s what I can guess. My copy is beat to hell. It took some doing to get some sound out of it, but this is one of my faves in my collection.
Siti Muharam — Siti of Unguja (Romance Revolution On Zanzibar)
Siti of Unguja (Romance Revolution On Zanzibar) by Siti Muharam
I swear I saw Siti Muharam sing on the deck of a hotel bar while vacation in Zanzibar several years ago. I can’t be certain, but I am pretty sure it was her singing for the band I saw. The traditional form of Taarab music is something to be experienced. Taarab music comes from the Arab coast of East Africa, and is this fantastic mix of local feel and Arab sounds, overlapped with heart wrenching songs of lost love and longing. I think there are some foreigners involved in this production, but this is an excellent document of Taarab music at its best.
Grandmaster Masese — “Orogena rwa Baba”
Grandmaster Masese: New African Soundz Singles No.1 by Grandmaster Masese
It might be gauche to put records from your own label on a list like this, but I am first a music fan and second a musician and third a music seller… so this one stays. G-master is a friend of mine from Kenya and one of the best humans I know. One of just a handful of people who play the Obokano, a giant 8 stringed lyre that emits an unforgettable sub-bass buzzing sound and this was his first release in the US and one of my favorite records ever. We recorded this in his kitchen in Nairobi with just a couple of mics over dinner. G is a cool guy. You should listen to his music.
Yagi Michiyo — Seventeen
youtube
Yagi is another Japanese musician who specializes in what one would think is a “traditional” instrument, but who brings much more to the table than one would expect. Yagi is a koto player by training. You have probably heard koto in the background music for scenes of Japan in American movies. The version you hear there is mostly lifeless and flat, kind of like a plastic chair in the corner. Yagi, however, plays the 17 string bass koto, invented in the 1920s or so, to try and give new life to the instrument. Yagi creates weird percussive, dissonant music that I can’t really get enough of.
Asnakech Worku (featuring Hailu Mergia) — Asnakech
Asnakech by Asnakech Worku
Asnakech Worku was a lot of things; pioneer, actress, but most notably a female Krar player. Certainly there might have been other female Krar players in Ethiopia at the time, but Krar players are mostly men. The Krar is a lyre from Ethiopia, mostly played with one hand, though there are several playing styles out there. Worku plays haunting sounds on her Krar on this record, backed up by famous Ethiopian keyboardist Hailu Mergia, who really needs no intro.
Ogola Opot — “Domtila Ogola”
youtube
This will probably be the only 78 on this list. Ogola Opot is considered the grandfather of the Kenyan nyatiti, coming to prominence in the 1960s and 70s, and creating the genre we know as Siaya style “traditional nyatiti.” If someone asks me what nyatiti music sounds like, this is probably where I would have people start. I include this first because it is a great record and second because it was my holy grail for a while (though I always have new holy grails) and managed to find a pristine copy for sale from a place in France recently. I am not going to say how much I paid for it.
Sosena Gebre Eyesus — S/T (Little Axe Records)
Sosena Gebre Eyesus by Sosena Gebre Eyesus
I bought this record off the net because I am a huge fan of Begena music, this haunting, trance inducing music from Ethiopia that appears to be the go-to for Ethiopian Christians… but this record explained nothing of that. Just a picture of a lady with a begena and no other info…. It took me a while to put together what the record was and where it came from, but the sounds contained within are impeccable. Just 40 minutes of weird undersea tones on a giant bass lyre.
