Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested in New York City on Monday for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick, police sources told ABC News.
Porter, 23, was formally charged with assault and strangulation.
Porter returned early Monday morning from an evening out to the Millennium Hilton near U.N. Plaza, where he and Gondrezick were staying. Gondrezick was upset with the late hour of his return and locked the door, according to police sources. Once he entered with the help of hotel security, Porter beat up the woman, the sources said.
Gondrezick was treated for a cut on the right side of her face and neck pain.
The pair was in New York City for Fashion Week. Porter and Gondrezick were photographed at the Vogue Smart Tox NYFW Kickoff event on Sept. 7.
MORE: NBA star Ja Morant sidelined after showing off gun on social media
Porter was drafted with the No. 30 pick in the 2019 NBA draft out of the University of Southern California, but has developed into a star player for the Rockets. He had his best career season in 2022-23 with 19.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game.
Gondrezick, 26, played college basketball for Michigan and West Virginia, before being drafted No. 4 overall in the 2021 WNBA draft by Indiana. She played one season for the Fever before being waived. She has not played the last two WNBA seasons and is currently a free agent.
Porter was previously arrested in November 2020 in Ohio on a weapons charge, but a grand jury declined to indict him. However, the Cleveland Cavaliers made him inactive for the first half of the season and he was traded to Houston in January 2021.

Movie : "AIR" (2023)
Directed by Ben Affleck
Written by Alex Convery
Produced and distributed (USA) by Amazon Studios
By now, you all understood I particularly enjoy films based on true events. Therefore, I had to watch Air, an American biographical sports drama film directed by Ben Affleck which tells the origin of the Nike basketball shoeline Air Jordan. The film is available on Amazon Prime Video and stars Matt Damon, which plays Nike's basketball talent scout Sonny Vaccaro, Ben Affleck which plays his relectant boss and friend and Viola Davis, who plays the role of Michael Jordan's charismatic mother, Deloris. The film takes place in Oregon and North Carolina in 1984.
At that time, Michael Jordan just got drafted to the NBA but nobody really believes that he is going to achieve greatness, except his mother, Deloris, and Sonny. At that time, Nike doesn't have any basketball player representing the brand and is making less money than Adidas and Converse, two brands that also want to sign Michael. All three have the same offer : 250 000 dollars a year. If Adidas and Converse have no problem with that amount, it is not an easy decision for Nike. The previous year has been a though one for them and they can't risk to bet all their annual budget on one player that nobody really heard about, a rookie.
Sonny then put all the effort to convince his board, but more especially Michael's mother, who is very protective and aware of the marketing system. She doesn't want brands to make money on her son's back and knows very well that those 250 000 dollars a year will disappear if Michael happens to get injured at training and can't play anymore.
Air is not about Michael Jordan's career, it is about Sonny's struggle to convince people about Micheal's greatness and the need for Nike to create a shoeline around him, Air Jordan, that he will wear during the NBA games. It is also very instructing as to how brand deals were orchastred in the 1980's and which arguments were used. When the Air Jordan was released in 1984, Nike's executives expected to make around 3 millions dollars, but ended up making a 55 millions dollars in sells and retails. Thanks to the Jordan shoeline, Nike made 150 millions dollars in total (2020).
The film received great critics and was highly promoted by Amazon, who spent 40 to 50 millions dollars promoting it. While researching infos about Air, I found out about a documentary telling the story of the Air Jordan's phenomenon, which could interest you if you enjoyed Air : "One man and his Shoes" by Yemi Bamiro.

Nonfiction Thursday: Sports Biographies & Memoirs
One Jump at a Time by Nathan Chen
When three-year-old Nathan Chen tried on his first pair of figure skates, magic happened. But the odds of this young boy--one of five children born to Chinese immigrants--competing and making it into the top echelons of figure skating were daunting. Chen's family didn't have the resources or access to pay for expensive coaches, rink time, and equipment. But Nathan's mother, Hetty Wang, refused to fail her child. Recognizing his tremendous talent and passion, she stepped up as his coach, making enormous sacrifices to give Nathan the opportunity to compete in this exclusive world.
That dedication eventually paid off at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, where Chen--reverently known as the Quad King--won gold, becoming the first Asian-American man to stand at the highest podium in figure skating. In this moving and inspiring memoir Chen opens up for the first time, chronicling everything it took to pursue his dreams. Bolstered by his unwavering passion and his family's unconditional support, Chen reveals the most difficult times he endured, and how he overcame each obstacle-from his disappointment at the 2018 Olympic Games, to competing during a global pandemic, to the extreme physical and mental toll the sport demands.
Pulling back the curtain on the figure skating world and the Olympics, Chen reveals what it was really like at the Beijing Games and competing on the US team in the same city his parents had left--and his grandmother still lived. Poignant and unfiltered, told in his own words, One Jump at a Time is the story of one extraordinary young man--and a testament to the love of a family and the power of persistence, grit, and passion.
The Rise by Mike Sielski
Kobe Bryant’s death in January 2020 did more than rattle the worlds of sports and celebrity. The tragedy of that helicopter crash, which also took the life of his daughter Gianna, unveiled the full breadth and depth of his influence on our culture, and by tracing and telling the oft-forgotten and lesser-known story of his early life, The Rise promises to provide an insight into Kobe that no other analysis has.
In The Rise , readers will travel from the neighborhood streets of Southwest Philadelphia―where Kobe’s father, Joe, became a local basketball standout―to the Bryant family’s isolation in Italy, where Kobe spent his formative years, to the leafy suburbs of Lower Merion, where Kobe’s legend was born. The story will trace his career and life at Lower Merion―he led the Aces to the 1995-96 Pennsylvania state championship, a dramatic underdog run for a team with just one star player―and the run-up to the 1996 NBA draft, where Kobe’s dream of playing pro basketball culminated in his acquisition by the Los Angeles Lakers.
This is more than a basketball book. This is an exploration of the identity and making of an icon and the effect of his development on those around him―the essence of the man before he truly became a man.
The Last Folk Hero by Jeff Pearlman
From the mid-1980s into the early 1990s, the greatest athlete of all time streaked across American sports and popular culture. Stadiums struggled to contain him. Clocks failed to capture his speed. His strength was legendary. His power unmatched. Video game makers turned him into an invincible character—and they were dead-on. He climbed (and walked across) walls, splintered baseball bats over his knee, turned oncoming tacklers into ground meat. He became the first person to simultaneously star in two major professional sports, and overtook Michael Jordan as America’s most recognizable pitchman. He was on our televisions, in our magazines, plastered across billboards. He was half man, half myth.
Then, almost overnight, he was gone.
He was Bo Jackson.
Drawing on an astonishing 720 original interviews, New York Times bestselling sportswriter Jeff Pearlman captures as never before the elusive truth about Jackson, Auburn University’s transcendent Heisman Trophy winner, superstar of both the NFL and Major League Baseball and ubiquitous “Bo Knows” Nike pitchman. Did Bo really jump over a parked Volkswagen? (Yes.) Did he actually run a 4.13 40? (Yes.) During the 1991 flight that nearly killed every member of the Chicago White Sox, was he in the cockpit trying to help? (Oddly, yes. Or no. Or … maybe.)
Path Lit by Lightning by David Maraniss
Jim Thorpe rose to world fame as a mythic talent who excelled at every sport. He won gold medals in the decathlon and pentathlon at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, was an All-American football player at the Carlisle Indian School, the star of the first class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and played major league baseball for John McGraw’s New York Giants. Even in a golden age of sports celebrities, he was one of a kind.
But despite his colossal skills, Thorpe’s life was a struggle against the odds. As a member of the Sac and Fox Nation, he encountered duplicitous authorities who turned away from him when their reputations were at risk. At Carlisle, he dealt with the racist assimilationist philosophy “Kill the Indian, Save the Man.” His gold medals were unfairly rescinded because he had played minor league baseball. His later life was troubled by alcohol, broken marriages, and financial distress. He roamed from state to state and took bit parts in Hollywood, but even the film of his own life failed to improve his fortunes. But for all his travails, Thorpe did not succumb. The man survived, complications and all, and so did the myth.

“Fake Wannabe All-Star” Proves Doubters Wrong
Tumblr media
Tyrese Haliburton is a name that most sports fans should be ready to learn about. Born on the special leap year day of February 29, 2000; the 6′5 point guard from Wisconsin was born with something special about him. Haliburton was drafted out of Iowa State with the 12th pick of the 2020 draft class to the Sacramento Kings. Most basketball fans remember this class through the likes of All-Star Lamelo Ball and 1st overall pick Anthony Edwards. While they may share the spotlight, Haliburton’s rise as steadily been a focus of some select fans. Although he made the All-Rookie 1st Team back in 2021, the Kings seemingly did not think much of his potential because just a couple months later they would trade Haliburton to Indiana. While Sacramento management felt accomplished in aquiring All-Star Domantas Sabonis, many Kings fans were furious at the organization for letting go of a talented young prospect. At this time, Haliburton was averaging 14 ppg (points per game) with about 7 apg (assists per game). With numbers like these, it was uncertain whether he would flourish into a Star, or remain as an essential role player.
After the trade, Haliburton revealed that he cried uncontrollably. At 21 years of age, he had been dealt the harsh reality of life in the NBA. His love for the city or organization had been crushed with a business deal. Although shocked by the news, he manage to tweet out to his fans, “Sacramento, I love y’all! Can’t put all my feelings into words yet, but know I’m forever grateful and appreciative of each and every one of you.”
Now with the Indiana Pacers, Tyrese took a major step into stardom as he no longer had to share the point guard position alongside Kings’ De’Aaron Fox. With the point guard position all to himself, Haliburton exploded this season with his numbers jumping from 15 ppg to 20 ppg this season. His playmaking has also vastly improved as he now leads the entire NBA in assists per game averaging 10 and a half. Haliburton’s defense has also improved as many around the league have claimed. His 1.7 steals per game is in the top 10 of players in that category.
Unfortunately, greatness comes with a price. Hate! No matter how great a player is, or how great of a storyline, there will be haters out there. In Haliburton’s case, we look at former NBA All-Star Wally Szczerbiak. Wally played for multiple teams, however he is best remembered for playing alongside MVP Kevin Garnett on the Minnesota Timberwolves. The former player now turned Basketball Analyst had this to say about Haliburton when he missed a crucial shot in a narrow loss to the New York Knicks. “Mister supposed wannabe fake All-Star with a big miss. He’s a very good player, he’s not going to make the All-Star team. Guys like Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson will make it over Tyrese Haliburton, and tonight we saw why.”
The comments seemed to come from a place of hate and not at all a critique of his play. Some would suggest that Wally should have more empathy given that his only All-Star appearance came down to the wire on whether or not he would make the team. While an arguement can be made about which player deserves to make it, the comments were confusing to Haliburton as he had never mentioned or petitioned to make the All-Star game. He responded saying, ““I know the name Wally Szczerbiak. I couldn’t tell you where he played. Couldn’t tell you what he did as a basketball player. I don’t know. He had a lot to say about me. I was really questioning, first, who is this? And why is he talking about me like this? I think he was just excited about a Knicks win. He’s just doing whatever he can to get attention. That’s just the media these days.”
After a large backlash from the NBA fan base and former NBA player/media member Matt Barnes, Wally Szczerbiak retracted his comments by saying, “I want to apologize personally to Tyrese Haliburton. He’s a wonderful young player and is definitely in the All-Star conversation, along with guys like Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson. It’s going to be interesting to see who makes it. All those three players are wonderful players.”
Although the apology was made, the comments cannot be wiped away from existence. Some fans will choose to use the words “Fake” and “Wannabe” to demean Haliburton’s game. However, Haliburton did not get distracted from this incident. His focus was on playing the reigning Eastern Conference Champion Boston Celtics on the road. With some excellent shooting and determination, Haliburton proved that he wasn’t some wannabe All-Star has he led his team to a victory against the team with the best record in the NBA. In that game, he put up 33 points and 8 assists while also knocking down 6 triples.
In their next game, the Pacers would face the Miami Heat on the road. This was another tough matchup as the two teams sit at 8th and 9th in the Eastern Conference Standings. Given that the Miami Heat won the Eastern Conference back in 2020 and were in the Conference Finals last season, many believed Miami would win this game. Haliburton had other ideas as he notched a career high 43 points with 10 triples made! To wrap up a spectacular performance, he hit an extraordinary 3 pointer from the edge of the Miami Heat logo in the middle of the court to win the game!
Tumblr media
While doubters can continue to criticize or even hate on Haliburton’s game, there is no question that he likes to prove his doubters wrong. With 2 spectacular performances against the last 2 Conference Champions, there is no question that Tyrese Haliburton deserves a spot in the All-Star Game. If you agree with that statement, don’t forget to vote for Tyrese Haliburton for the All-Star Game on the NBA app.

NBA 2020s: the USA vs World Era
Tumblr media
In nba 2k the past two games they named 2010-14 the Lebron Era and the Steph era being apparently from 2017 to I’m guessing 2019?
There been some talk about the division and timeframe like would it not all be Lebron era for example or why specifically 3-5 years and so on like I would just say 15-19 to make it even with Lebron or just call it Lebron vs Curry era
But I want to discuss the current era of 2020-24 and potentially onwards
I want to call it the USA vs the World Era
Tumblr media
Championships
Unlike the past decade the 2020s have had no repeat champions so can’t say a team dominated like Lebron Heat or Superteam Warriors
It’s been a different team each year and not in the 2010 way where every year has either Lebron or Steph in it
Something I noticed is that the main player of each team has been alternating between a U.S. player and a foreign player
2020: Lebron & AD (US)
2021: Giannis (World)
2022: Stephen (US)
2023: Jokic (World)
2024: Tatum & Brown (US)
So it’s been back and forth this decade so far and while we don’t know 2025 and on at this time if an era is 5 years like 2K did then this is a good frame to go off of
Foreign player dominance
Tumblr media
Players such as Jokic Giannis and Embiid if you count him as foreign have won the past 5 MVP awards showing to at least a lot they have been the best players in the NBA
Not even counting Luka Doncic, Shai, and even Wemby now
And there has been a talking point about foreign players both positive and negative because of their dominance recently
To the point where the negative can be seen as xenophobic
Which has created a sort of USA players vs foreign player debate
Rivalry’s
Tumblr media
While in a sense team rivalry’s are dead in the nba they’re are some player rivalries that make it a point touching on
Doncic vs Booker (Suns vs Mavs)
Doncic vs Kawhi/PG (Mavs vs Clippers)
Lakers vs Nuggets (Lebron vs Jokic) (I know those fans might deny it but they played three times in the playoffs in 5 years two of them in the conference finals and both teams are definitely trying harder against each other than others)
Bucks vs Heat (Heat with Butler has been one of those teams that stop the Giannis Bucks or at least give him trouble and they’re matchups in the post season has been consistent)
All these have a world player against a U.S. player
There’s other rivalries like Celtics vs Heat but these I feel are consistent and fit the theme in the past 5 years
Plus it’s a still a US dominated (in number of players) league so just lower odds for other rivalries with foreign players
Olympics
Tumblr media
This isn’t technically the NBA but a big thing that occurred was the Olympics and is a good “finale” for this 5 year era
Not even discussing the “World Champions” / best in the world topic brought up by Noah Lyles
It was questioned if they could win Gold due to how much better a lot of countries have gotten and it was definitely tested in the 2024 Olympics
This while putting a pin in the U.S. vs World debate for Olympics since USA won, does bring up that when Lebron Steph & Durant retire the scales seemingly heavily tip in the worlds favor in some eyes going forward as it took 3 top 15 players ever to squeeze out those wins against the other top teams like Serbia and France
Plus other talking points like Tatum the recent nba champion barely playing, is Anthony Edwards ready to take over, and so on
Misc
Until 2022 the rising star game was USA vs World
There’s been a want for that to return and be applied to the main All Star game
More foreign players coming over to the NBA now more than before including top draft picks
NBA being more global by having games in Africa and other places in the world
If you include 2019 the champions were the Toronto raptors which is the only non US team in the NBA so while not led by a foreign player it is the “foreign” team and continues the back and forth pattern
All these make the aspect that narratively it’s been USA vs World players believable to me
I do think if a team like the Celtics repeat as champions it could skew some points here but overall at just these five years I prefer this than just calling it the Jokic Era because he has three mvps

Shaun Patrick Livingston (September 11, 1985) is a basketball executive and former player. He entered the league directly out of high school and was selected fourth by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2004 NBA draft. In a 15-year professional career in the league, he played 959 games for nine teams and won three NBA championships as a Golden State Warrior— in 2015, 2017, and 2018. He suffered a debilitating knee injury that damaged almost every part of his left knee. It took him about a year and a half to return. Between 2008 and 2010 he played only 22 league games. He has played for the Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder, Washington Wizards, Charlotte Bobcats, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Brooklyn Nets, and Tulsa 66ers. He played his last five seasons in the league with the Warriors and retired from professional basketball in September 2019.
He was born in Peoria, Illinois. He led Concordia Lutheran Grade School to LSA state titles. He played competitive basketball in high school at Richwoods High School for two years and then transferred to Peoria Central High School, where he led his team to back-to-back Class AA state titles.
He was named Illinois Mr. Basketball and played in the McDonald’s All-American Game. He was voted one of the 100 Legends of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament for his superior performance in the tournament. Considered a five-star recruit by Rivals.com, he was listed as the #1 point guard and the #2 player in the nation in 2004. He committed to play college hoops at Duke but opted instead to make the jump to the NBA straight out of high school.
On September 15, 2020, the Golden State Warriors announced that they had named him as director of player affairs and engagement. He will be leaving his position at the end of the season. He won his fourth NBA championship after the Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics in six games in the 2022 NBA Finals. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

LeBron James: The King of Basketball
LeBron James is more than just a basketball player — he is an icon whose influence transcends sports. Since entering the NBA in 2003, LeBron has consistently redefined the game, becoming one of the greatest athletes in history. With his unparalleled versatility on the court, commitment to excellence, and impact off the court, LeBron’s legacy is one of dominance, leadership, and social activism.
Early Life and the Making of a Star
Born on December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio, LeBron Raymone James was a basketball prodigy from a young age. Raised by his single mother, Gloria James, LeBron’s rise from humble beginnings to superstardom is nothing short of remarkable. His basketball talents were evident early on, as he led St. Vincent-St. Mary High School to multiple state championships and was dubbed “The Chosen One” by Sports Illustrated while still a teenager.
By the time the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him as the №1 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, LeBron was already seen as the future of basketball. He entered the league with immense expectations and, remarkably, has exceeded them over his career.
Dominating the NBA
LeBron’s NBA journey has been marked by consistent greatness. He made an immediate impact as a rookie, averaging 20.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game, and winning the Rookie of the Year award. As his career progressed, LeBron evolved into the complete player — equally adept at scoring, passing, rebounding, and defending. He’s known for his incredible basketball IQ, ability to play all five positions, and making everyone around him better.
LeBron has played for three teams in his career: the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat, and the Los Angeles Lakers. His versatility and leadership have led him to four NBA championships (two with the Heat in 2012 and 2013, one with the Cavaliers in 2016, and one with the Lakers in 2020). His ability to adapt and dominate in different team environments is a testament to his greatness and work ethic.
In addition to his championships, LeBron has accumulated countless accolades, including four NBA MVP awards (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013), numerous All-Star appearances, and multiple All-NBA First Team selections. With over 38,000 career points (and counting), LeBron is on the verge of becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing record.
The Historic 2016 Championship
Perhaps LeBron’s most iconic moment came in 2016 when he led the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first-ever NBA championship. After falling behind 3–1 in the Finals to the Golden State Warriors, LeBron delivered an extraordinary performance, averaging a triple-double over the final three games and famously blocking Andre Iguodala’s shot in Game 7 — an iconic play that sealed Cleveland’s victory. This triumph was not just a championship; it was a moment of redemption and a testament to LeBron’s leadership and determination.
LeBron’s Impact Off the Court
While LeBron’s basketball legacy is secure, his impact off the court is just as significant. He has used his platform to advocate for social justice, education, and equality. In 2018, LeBron opened the I PROMISE School in his hometown of Akron, providing underprivileged students with education, mentorship, and resources. The school is a reflection of LeBron’s commitment to giving back and helping the next generation.
LeBron has also been an outspoken advocate for social justice issues, particularly regarding racial inequality, police brutality, and voting rights. He helped launch the More Than a Vote campaign in 2020, which aimed to combat voter suppression and encourage Black Americans to exercise their right to vote. In an era when athletes are increasingly expected to speak up on social issues, LeBron has embraced his role as a leader and role model.
The Business of LeBron
Beyond basketball and philanthropy, LeBron has become a savvy businessman. Through his company, SpringHill Entertainment, he has ventured into media production, creating films, documentaries, and television shows that highlight social issues and empower communities. He also co-produced the 2021 film Space Jam: A New Legacy, in which he starred as himself — a nod to Michael Jordan’s original Space Jam.
LeBron’s business acumen extends to partnerships with major brands like Nike, with whom he signed a lifetime contract reportedly worth over $1 billion. His entrepreneurial efforts have made him one of the wealthiest athletes in the world, and in 2022, he officially became a billionaire — a rare feat for an active athlete.
The Legacy of LeBron James
As LeBron James continues his career, his legacy is already cemented as one of the greatest players in NBA history. His ability to maintain elite performance deep into his career, playing at an MVP level in his 19th and 20th seasons, is unprecedented. Yet, his legacy goes beyond the numbers and championships. LeBron has redefined what it means to be an athlete in the modern era — an era where athletes are not just competitors but activists, entrepreneurs, and global icons.
When the day comes for LeBron to retire, he will leave behind an indelible mark on the game of basketball and society as a whole. His commitment to his craft, leadership on and off the court, and tireless efforts to uplift his community make him more than just a basketball player — LeBron James is truly a King.
LeBron James has reigned as one of the most dominant athletes of his generation. His journey from a young prodigy in Akron to an NBA superstar, global icon, philanthropist, and businessman is a story of greatness, perseverance, and purpose. Whether it’s on the basketball court, in the boardroom, or in his community, LeBron continues to push boundaries and inspire millions, ensuring his legacy will endure long after his playing days are over.
LeBron James, the King of Basketball, has changed the game forever — both on and off the court.
