🚨 don't shoot me | masterlist
two detectives go head to head in a battle of wits and stupidity. who wins? who loses? perhaps you both do.
pairing: detective!y/n x detective!han jisung (both in their early 30s)
genre: crack, fluff, mild angst, inspired by my most favorite show in the world: Brooklyn 99. lots of character tropes are inspired from actual B99 characters
warnings: (some violence, obvi) this is a fictional portrayal of the police and will not at all reflect any real world issues. furthermore, everything here might not be completely accurate or just a blatant exaggeration of how a police station works (because i have zero clue how it goes and i'm just basing it off of tv shows). some topics of misogyny in the workforce, mental health issues, death, inaccurate mental health professional portrayal, family problems, vulgarity, etc.
note: jisung's spin-off from the SLC-HDD universe (before felix and HDD!y/n got together). still, you don't need to read the other two fics for this to make sense, could totally be read as a standalone! to make the timeline not confusing, here's how it is:
SLC (early 20s) -> HDD (early 20s) -> SLC BONUSES (mid-late 20s) -> DSM (early 30s) -> HDD ENDINGS (mid-late 30s)

“felix!!!!” a chirpy voice shouted from a distance as the young lad went barreling straight to the freckled blonde.
“jake! it’s so good to finally see you again!” felix hugged him, just as enthusiastic as the younger one. suddenly, they feel themselves ripped off from each other as strong arms pull felix away.
“felix is mine! MINE!” jisung possessively grabbed felix from behind, trying to push away jake who just laughs at him.
“he’s quite the popular one,” chan comments from a nearby distance which seungmin shrugs at.
“tell me about it,” the former lawyer said.
“kim seungmin, attor—no, sorry, force of habit. i’m unemployed now,” he shook hands with chan, who introduces himself just as politely.
“bang chan, one half of 2RACHA,” he replies.
“i don’t get the deal, i’m so much better than this whatever felix guy,” changbin pipes up with an eyeroll, though it’s quite obvious that he’s simply exaggerating. especially knowing he was one of the most excited to see felix's reunion with his loved one.
as if felix heard his name mentioned, he takes jake and jisung to their spot to introduce his two worlds together, “i invited them, by the way! chan and changbin, these are my old pals—jake, jisung, and you already met seungmin.”
“oh my god!! 2RACHA, i’m such a big fan!!” jake fanboys as he eagerly shakes the hands of the two buff men.
with a boisterous laugh, changbin takes out a pen to sign his autograph on jake’s arm, “i like this guy,” he comments, and jake nearly fainted.
“is he always this…full of himself,” seungmin asks.
chan just nods with a laugh, “can you believe it used to be worse?”
in the distance, jisung sees a familiar set of foxy eyes which makes him jump up and down, “i also have someone i invited from my new life!”
“hello everyone!” jeongin waved with a polite bow, a bit intimidated with the outstanding presence of jisung’s friends but the detective tried to carry himself well.
but what made him feel truly welcome is when felix didn’t hesitate to give him a warm hug, “nice to finally see you in person, jeongin, thank you for watching over jisung.”
“it’s my pleasure,” jeongin says back.
“finally, my plus one is here,” changbin suddenly pipes up as a sleek black limousine pulls up on the road.
emerges from the exquisite vehicle is none other than lee minho, in his extravagant black suit and sunglasses.
“who’s this stud now,” kim seungmin mocks with much sarcasm as he lays his eyes on minho’s out-of-place attire.
though it seems like minho didn’t know the dress code either as he looks around everyone wearing their different versions of summer attire, “i thought we’d be in some guy’s villa?” he asks, confused and a bit shy with his armani extravagance.
“it is my villa,” jisung piped up, pointing toward a beach mansion further up the road.
“villa? more like prison,” seungmin mumbled but felix elbowed him at the side.
you see, it’s been years since any of the guys have seen each other—or at least, those that don’t have any direct connections in their relationship. still, they decided it would be fun to lounge around the beach in the bahamas—and just to hammer in the irony, jisung offered to host the gathering in the place where he was held captive.
it was a way to reshape his memory of the place. what used to be his prison will now become a new sanctuary (although they’re just renting it out as a bnb because jisung doesn’t own any properties anymore).
“so what were we celebrating again?” chan asks the group, wondering about their scheduled meet-up.
everyone looked at each other, gauging for an answer, but jisung just shrugged, “anything and everything.”
“could be my search of a new career path,” seungmin shrugged.
felix also joined in, “i’m getting married soon, so maybe this could be a bachelor party of sorts.” changbin fakes a gag in the corner, making chan smack him on the head.
“oooh i just got promoted!” jisung suddenly pipes, as if he forgot. knowing jisung, he probably did.
“then i’ll put in that 2RACHA just ranked in the billboard,” changbin smugly comments.
but he spoke up again, “don’t ask which place though, the numbers don’t matter,” changbin added, making chan groan.
“still! that’s huge news! i don’t have anything, unfortunately,” jake comments, so seungmin just pats him in the back.
"true, the billboard is THE billboard," felix comments.
"look at you, getting to know pop culture," seungmin nudges felix mockingly but the freckled one just laughs.
“i’m just happy to be here,” minho says fondly, still getting used to the new people.
“honestly, same,” jeongin agrees beside him.
“am i late to the party?” an arrogant yet bubbly voice asks from behind everyone, and it damn near made jisung combust when he sees who it was.
“HWANG HYUNJIIIIN!!!” jisung shouted at the top of his lungs before running towards hyunjin for a hug. immediately, the long-haired man made a face of disgust as he hesitantly (yet lovingly) reciprocated the hug.
“ew, seungmin’s my best friend, not you,” hyunjin says like a diva as he jokingly pushes jisung off him.
“glad you can make it,” seungmin pats him on the shoulder, affectionately.
hyunjin just groans, “are you kidding? i wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
“home life must be tough right now, huh?” jake asks with a knowing smile.
at the comment, hyunjin buries his face in his palms, “i have two daughters and another one incoming. somebody save me.”
jeongin cringes beside them, “i don’t like thinking about what that implies.”
“HEY! don’t think about my wife like that,” hyunjin glares at jeongin, who suddenly stands up straighter in surprise. but felix just laughs and shakes jeongin on the shoulder.
“don’t worry about him, he’s a man in love,” felix waves hyunjin off.
“you’re one to talk, SIMP,” changbin comments, making chan look at him in disbelief.
“YOU’RE one to talk,” he reverses the table making changbin jokingly square up at him.
“i was just kidding, i’m not gonna take felix’s mi amor away from him,” changbin confesses, mad and a bit embarrassed that his cover is blown. still, felix just gives him a toothy grin, not minding their past.
“i like to think i’m the luckiest out of everyone,” jisung smugly comments.
“oh yeah sure, you basically did your own version of stockholm syndrome on her but go ahead,” seungmin snarkily comments making jisung defensive.
“I DID NO SUCH THING!!” jisung shouts, making jake and jeongin laugh.
chan pipes up, “i think nobody’s a match on felix’s fiancé who literally waited for him for a decade,”
with that, hyunjin suddenly speaks up, “woah woah woah, why are we doing comparisons here? if we’re gonna do that then obviously my wife is the best.”
seungmin just groans at the topic.
“what about you guys?” jake asks, looking at minho, chan, changbin, jeongin, and seungmin. the single guys of the group.
they all scratch their heads, looking away with a small whistle to avoid the question.
“2RACHA is a full-time commitment!” changbin suddenly exclaims, making chan smack him again.
“you make it sound like we’re married,” chan laughs.
“i, too, am busy with work,” minho adds, making jeongin and seungmin nod.
“ditto,” “agreed,” they two younger ones reply in unison.
“hey! that can’t be right, seungmin doesn’t have a job anymore,” jisung points out, making seungmin glare at him.
“need i remind you that you owe me hundreds of thousands of dollars?” seungmin slaps in his face, making jisung avert the subject.
“anyways! i’m so happy to see you hyunjin baby, you’re my favorite out of everyone,” jisung makes kissy faces toward the man but hyunjin just rolls his eyes.
“obviously, if it wasn’t for me, you guys wouldn’t exist.” hyunjin comments with an eyeroll.
“is he saying he’s our dad?” jeongin whispers to felix who just shrugs.
“i think he’s implying something else.” felix answers.
the day continued with the guys just seemingly celebrating anything and everything. though changbin adamantly persists to play their music and their music only.
together, they toast for:
2RACHA’s music.
jisung’s promotion.
jake and his happy home life.
hyunjin’s upcoming daughter.
jeongin’s addition to the group.
felix’s marriage.
seungmin’s career searching.
minho’s entrepreneurial success.
and the guys’ newfound friendship in general.
it took them a long time to get to this point. to stand in one room with no bad blood, simply just love and admiration for each other.
newcomer or not, everyone was welcome in the strong bond that started with hyunjin and seungmin—and perhaps, also felix and jisung's.
if not for everything that happened, they wouldn’t’ve come to this point. in fact, none of them would’ve been friends at all.
so, here they all are, bonding and connecting with each other. all reminiscing the steps that led them to this exact moment.
all the bad and all the good.
no matter what it made them feel during the time it was happening, they can’t deny that it ultimately led them to a better ending. an ending that will never end.
before they part, they all make a promise never to stop being in contact with each other. a promise to always be by each other’s side and help them no matter what new trials they may face.
because no matter where the story stops being told, their lives will continuously bloom into a beautiful flower that everyone can look at and admire—but only they get to hold.
a/n: and that's a wrap!

Suki, I’ve recently discovered your blog and read through some of your fics. I really love a lot of them, and I’m waiting eagerly for updates to the ongoing ones.
The most recent fic of yours I’ve read is “don’t shoot me” and now I’m debating whether or not to read the entirety of that universe (SLC/HDD). But I’m slightly concerned about the tags (bc I get emotional and sensitive ugh). I need to know. How bad are they? Like, how much angst should I expect, how long is the burn before the angst is resolved, etc.? Are there any possible/prominent trigger warnings (other than the ones in the masterlists)? Even if you could tell me a small summary of them, that would be really appreciated and would help me figure out if I should read it or not. I’m sure your writing is amazing, and I know from DSM that they have happy endings, but I also get rly hung up on fiction sometimes… could you help me out?
Thank you, and I really love and appreciate your works! Take care of yourself, always take breaks for your mental and physical health, drink lots of water, eat and sleep enough, the whole gist. Self-care to the max 😌✨❤️
aw thank u!! that's v v sweet. 🙏🙏🙏💓💓💓
mmm yeah, as for that universe, i can def agree that DSM is the most lighthearted one. i already forgot the warnings in the masterlist so ig i'll just try to add a summary/explanation that's spoiler-free???
SLC: def the core theme here would be the bullying, so keep that in mind. during it's time, it was prob the hardest fic that i had to write (now OATGE is in the lead lolz). there's a lot of ups and downs—betrayal, hurt, and whatnot. but there are a ton of light moments sprinkled in. in terms of getting hung up, i think SLC would be in the middle. it isn't as lighthearted as DSM but not as angsty as HDD either. i think what puts this in the middle of the "triggering" list is because of how bizarre the situations are. i've had a reader before who is triggered by themes of bullying and whatnot so i did my best to over exaggerate those themes to the point that it becomes unrealistic. thus, it's enjoyable for what it is: fiction.
HDD: i think this is on top of the "triggering" list amongst the three because in a sense, it deals with more mental damage. lots of the topics discussed are often scummy and it's more of a social war in comparison to SLC (which has some physicalness aspect to it, not necessarily violence but idk how to explain it). it also has more sexual themes compared to DSM and SLC, both good or bad.
overall, i'd like to think that the payoff is worth it, if the feedback is anything to go by. SLC is more of a slowburn compared to HDD tho, just basing off the chapter count. SLC also has a bigger universe (more characters and whatnot) hence why i was able to expand on its story.
anyhow, it's still up to you if you want to read it, we're responsible for our media consumption afterall, thus the warnings are placed. if anything, i have other fics that are very lighthearted! (jeongin smau is my fave LMFAO).
i'm also over my "edgy/experimental" phase so most of my future fics will definitely be more on the lighthearted side. consider it my retirement phase or smth.
