Well I’m already going insane tonight so I figured I might as well do a writeup on the single most indulgent part of my Fine and Good AU: The Goop. Lore under the cut, it’s insane and awful and I’m sorry.
In the Fine and Good AU I was absolutely desperate to redeem Wilfre without getting him killed, so at the end of the first game my hero essentially carves his shadow off of him with a pocket knife. The resulting shadow goo reforms itself as a separate sapient entity, which I lovingly refer to as The Goop. Goop was attached to Wilfre for about 20 years, so it’s kinda almost a copy of Wilfre, but more pitiful and sad. It’s the physical embodiment of “poor little meow meow.” Goop also serves as my villain for DtL2 so that I can keep Wilfre as a “good guy,” but I end up redeeming it too anyway. It’s called Fine and Good for a reason!
I was really unhappy with the way Heather was treated in DtL2, as I felt like she should have had a more active role in the story. She was just sorta abandoned for so much of it... anyways for my AU I wanted her to be more present, so I needed to keep her separate from the villain. My solution for this was to essentially villainize Wilfre anyway, except this time it’s against his will. I have Wilfre serve as the vessel for Goop in the F&G AU like in-game Heather does for Wilfre in DtL2.
Because Goop is like, imprinted on Wilfre, it can appear in a form similar to him (but inky and slimy) on its own, but it has to be attached to him in order to shape shift around. The two of them can talk to one another in a shared headspace and Goop will occasionally “shed” itself from Wilfre in order to go do things on its own.
Like I said, I DO redeem the Goop because I have problems “punishing” characters. I think Goop is funny and deserves a second chance. Its major issue is that it DID imprint on Wilfre and is working with a copy of his very upset and conflicted personality from right before the end of the first DtL, so it didn’t get the epiphany moment where it apologized to everyone and saw the error of its ways etc... That means it continued on with the original plan of trapping a child in a coma </3 It gets redeemed after my hero once again kicks its ass and carves it off Wilfre, then gives it a stern talking-to.
So, final end-game of my AU: Mike is awake and he and Heather are able to straddle the divide between their world and the raposa world and visit both freely. Wilfre is not a villain anymore and he’s living comfortably with his husband, daughter, and two adopted grand-children. The Goop is also there so Mari now has two basically identical dads, one of which leaves inky handprints on everything. Life is good and everyone is happy.
