Coorg or Kodagu is a district in Karnataka and Madikeri is the district headquarters. At an altitude of 1525 meters on Western Ghats, it is also known as the Scotland of India. It was a Britisher planters community, Most of the planters were Scots and the uncanny similarities between both places earned Coorg that nickname. Coorg is mountainous, misty and cool and is one of the best hill station in South India. It is covered with stunning landscapes, beautiful waterfalls, huge coffee plantation and lush greenery. Madikeri is the heartland of Coorg region and was the seat of ruling dynasty. You love them, they will love you back! At #Dubareelephantcamp Karnataka’s history with elephants, goes a long way back and currently the state’s Forest Department has about 150 elephants in various camps. But in the recent past, after logging operations were ceased, there was a situation of freshly unemployed elephants. As they claim, they take of these, train them for the annual event of Mysore Dussehra! However, the way they keep them chained and hit them with a sharp stick to control them is appalling. Undoubtedly, they are being fed with utmost care, taken care of medically but in physical care, better means can be utilised! I hope, they get better means to take care of these animals as they deserve it. .
