What breaks me the most about Yunmeng Shuangjie is how painfully obvious it is that WWX has outgrown the past in more ways than JC has. He was literally reborn, and even long before that he’d been transformed and transcended too many times, he’d already lost hope of ever seeing his shidi again and bid farewell to the childish little part of him that used to have hope. But it doesn’t stop the yearning, deep down, even as a married man he still wants JC back, but he’s also painfully aware that things would never truly be the same again, and another part of him, the shattered one that places every shard into the hands of LWJ and begs to be mended, isn’t ready to face the consequences, nor the mere concept of it. It’s not about replacement. It’s not even that he moves on completely. But he could live with it. He could make that yearning part of him less prominent, less loud, and at least make some semblance of peace with it. It would just be an occasional longing, not something that clouds his mind in the long run. He doesn’t dwell on the past but doesn’t leave it behind either. But that wound isn’t half as fresh and deep as the one the whole ordeal left on JC.

A softer way of saying that JC needs WWX more than WWX needs JC. (Except he still doesn’t know)
