OVERVIEW.

-- Darragh was the only son of a single mother who struggled for most of her life. Aishling O'Connor became a mother for the first and only time at seventeen years old, and was ill-equipped to handle it after being cut off by her family for deciding to go through with the pregnancy.

-- Despite growing up in uncertainty, for the most part Darragh had a happy childhood. They didn't have much, but they had each other.

-- As far as schooling went, he never displayed much of a natural apt for it. He found classroom settings too restrictive and there was no specific academic subject that held his interest. The only days he would definitively be guaranteed to show up at school was when he had P.E. or football.

-- After a number of calls from his principal and run ins with other mothers on their council estate over fights and scrapes Darragh found himself involved in, his mother enrolled him in a local boxing club when he was ten, and it fostered an interest in the sport that has stayed with him through adulthood.

-- He found something of a father figure there in his coach and trainer, Tom. The discipline of the sport kept him on the straight and narrow, even though there were some run ins in his teenage years with the Garda for being present in robbed cars and where drug deals were occurring.

-- Darragh's whole world shifted on it's axis at his mother's death when he was seventeen years old, and then again a few days later at her funeral when he discovered that his biological father was both alive and well and a man that had three other children who were all older than him and a wife to boot.

-- This news rocked the foundation of everything he thought he knew about himself and his ma, and made him question every word she had ever spoken to him. As soon as he turned eighteen, after a few months of staying with the family of his best friend, he set off travelling rather than having to share a city with a man who knew of his existence and chose to ignore it entirely instead.

-- He initially moved to Australia with two school friends who aspired to do the same and lived/worked there for just under a year and a half before deciding it wasn't for him. Leon and Karl stayed on, while he set his sights on the next continent he would search for some semblance of a new start.

Mitch is the youngest of 3 siblings and grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth. His parents were both very well off and successful music producers.

Mitch was kinda the odd man out in his family. He wasn't the most attractive of his siblings, nor was he the most popular. His brother was an all star athlete and class president. His older sister, Anna, was the the prom queen and cheer captain.

When Mitch was 12 his whole world changed. His parents ended up divorcing so his father could start a new life with his new boyfriend. His mother got full custody of him and his sister who were still under age and moved back to her home town of East Haven.

Mitch's family was easily one of the most wealthy in East haven, which put a target on him in school. Because not only was he rich, he was awkward, had braces, horrible acne, and new his freshman year of high school.

Mitch would have despised his entire high school experience if it wasn't for one girl in particular, Rhiannon Spring. From the moment he laid eyes on her, Mitch fell head over heals for her. though it took him forever to muster up the courage to ask her out on a date. But the two clicked, and it wasn't long before he said I love you. Eventually, Rhi said it back.

The two were an odd couple. Clearly from different worlds and social circles. But their love was strong. Unfortunately Mitch's mother drove a wedge between the two and they broke up. Mitch's world was shattered once again. When Rhi broke his heart his whole world came crashing down, not only did he loose his girlfriend, he lost his best friend.

As much as it seemed that Mitch had a charmed life, it was lonely. His father and older brother weren't a part of his life. His sister was always out god knows where doing god knows what, and his mother, well more often then not she was away on business.

Mitch is back from college. Having both simultaneously flunked/dropped out, Mitch's mother is furious with him.

The college Mitch attended was Boston College. He was a Business administration and management but was struggling because he hated it, but his mother didn't care and support him wanting to change majors so now he's cut off.

B A C K G R O U N D – ( cw : physical injury )

tl;dr - quinn was born into an old money family, got into snowboarding young, put all her time and focus into it, became a pro snowboarder, and made it to the olympics but crashed out before her first race. took her almost two years to get back on a board and she ended up as a snowboard instructor – whether by her name or by her skill, who knows – but she's basically been hiding out in east haven since she got an instructor job at mount aston.

quinn was born into a family that essentially defined old money .  from the moment she opened her eyes , she had a world of opportunities at her fingertips .  unfortunately , these opportunities also came with a litany of responsibilities .  at first it was fine .  she even liked it for the most part – dressing up for the fancy events , all of their family friends constantly fawning over her , getting whatever she wanted for her birthdays and for christmas – but then , at 9 years old , she fell in love .

her parents had brought her and her brother allowing to go skiing with them , claiming the need for a family vacation ( they were actually meeting with business owners in the small town by the resort to talk about buying them out , quinn later found out ) .  needless to say , quinn didn’t much enjoy skiing .  in fact , it bored her .  and so , being their wonderful and precious daughter , her parents allowed her to try snowboarding after she begged for …  well , for like two hours  ( they’re not very good at saying no to their daughter tbh ) .  

and the second she got on that board ?  oh man .  nothing had ever felt so natural to her before then .  her natural ability to make an entire room turn their heads in her direction was nothing compared to this .  it was like she was always meant to do this .  even the private instructor assigned to her couldn’t help but praise her for how quickly she’d taken to it .  and so it began .

from then on , every spare moment quinn had was spent on a snowboard .  her parents had the money and the means to make sure she could get the proper training wherever and whenever possible , so why wouldn’t they ??  they were nothing less than supportive , though admittedly it could feel borderline obsessive at times , but quinn didn’t mind .  in less than two years time , she was already competing with teenagers and winning .  her natural ability on the board and her innovative twist on various tricks flowed into her routines and it was clear she was meant for greatness .  everyone started calling her q , and honestly she liked how cool it made her sound so she kept the nickname .  ( her parents always made sure to use her given name , though ) .

for 10 years , she competed and trained and rose through the ranks .  with the amount of time spent on snowboarding , she wasn’t necessarily up to helping out with the family’s business affairs , which left that responsibility to her brother .  unsurprisingly , he began to resent her for it and the little sibling who once would show up to her competitions with entirely too many embarrassing posters turned into a young man who would barely speak a word to her .  on one hand , she understood .  it was never a life he wanted .  growing up , he was content with sitting in his room and reading his books and thinking up ways to fly to saturn .  but now it was his responsibility to keep their parents happy and to keep their clients happy .  but as much as she understood , she wasn’t willing to leave her dream behind .

then at 20 , she was finally poised to join the olympic team .  the previous olympics she had supposedly been too young , and despite the young girl being an absolute beast on the slopes , the qualifiers had been a challenge for her .  the last event had come just hours after an explosive fight with her brother and despite how hard she tried not to let it get to her , she’d been unable to completely focus and completely whiffed the tricks she had planned and had to reduce the skill level for her safety .  it was disappointing , to say the least ( and her parents made sure to tell her so ) .  but now she was ready .

unfortunately , no amount of practice could have prepared her for what would happen .  during a practice run , she’d hit a particularly slippery patch of snow and it caused her to lose control .  next thing she knew , she was head first in the snow and there was a severe amount of pain coming from her left side .  turns out she’d torn her left acl – for the second time ( and she’d torn her right one once already too ) – and dislocated her shoulder .  the shoulder was easy enough to fix but the acl …  well , that took a bit more recovery than she wanted .

she was pulled out of the olympics to recover , and it being her second acl tear , the recovery was much more mental than physical .  by the time she was cleared to be on a board again , her mind kept her from it anyway .  for her , it seemed that despite how much she was meant to be on a board , she wasn’t meant to succeed the way she wanted to .  to keep herself busy , she took on other hobbies ( i.e. the drums ) and traveled to places that were anything but cold , fully content to do anything that didn’t require a board .

it took a while ( almost 2 years , in fact ) before she got back on a snowboard .  but the second she did …  she realized how much she loved it still .  all that time away was necessary for her to remember why she loved the sport in the first place .  she’d learned that success wasn’t necessarily about winning the most medals or getting the most sponsorships or even competing in the fucking olympics .  it was about being to get back on that board despite the setbacks .  it was about landing that cab 12 for the first time in forever .  it was about getting other people to fall in love with the sport too .

NOW : and that’s how she ended up at the mount aston ski resort in east haven , vt .  she’d only been a couple of times , but she remembered loving the slopes there .  so she’d signed up to be a snowboard instructor and it didn’t take her much time to get to her level 1 + 2 certifications .  her skills – and not to mention her name – were enough to get her that opportunity .  that was almost two years ago .  this season she was set to earn her level 3 certification and she couldn’t be more excited about the prospect .

snowboarding is lowkey her life .  like there are very few things , if any , that she values more and / or has committed to more than snowboarding .  you can guess pretty easily how that affects her dating prospects .

she's sort of got himbo vibes , but she'll also throw out like random facts that she knows sometimes and people will look at her weird .  not very talkative though unless it's about snowboarding .

a bit of a snowboarding snob .  like she doesn't necessarily "look down" on skiers . . . but she doesn't necessarily respect them as much as she does snowboarders .

a sk8r girl !  getting back on a snowboard also got her onto a skateboard and a surfboard .  she's not nearly as good on either of those, she uses her favorite longboard to get around when the ground isn't icy or snowy .  sometimes when she get sleep , she'll go to the beach and just sit in the water on her surfboard to clear her head .

Gwen was born in Jacksonville, FL she had moved to Portland when she was 10 with her parents due to her fathers job transfer.

She grew up there, went to college in Seattle then that is where she met her ex-husband.

When Gwen met Eric she was head over heels, the rose colored glasses were on and there was no looking back. No matter how many red flags popped up- she stayed.

Gwen felt herself starting to get swallowed by her love for Eric, herself becoming mostly just a shell. Her favorite color became his, his favorite food she always made, etc. She didn't know who Gwen was anymore.

Then when she found out about the affair it completely ruined her, her whole life surrounded him- so with that she took her things and fled.

Their anniversary trip was supposed to be in VT so she stayed, fell in love with the town and set up shop.

She's still very close with her parents, but she's trying to rebuild her life here- swearing off love even though she craves reciprocation and the image of a life she thought she'd have, a family, kids, etc.

When you think of Gwen think of fresh cut flowers from a garden, the cherry on top of a perfect sundae, the final placement of a candle on a cake. Phoebe hasn't always had the best relationship with her family- her mother is an insanely bitter woman who was never around town long enough to make it to a school function, let alone keep a hot meal on the table. Her father, whoever he is never cared to know her.

So Phoebe is who she is because of her grandmother who raised her and was far off from who her daughter was. Barb was kind, hardworking, and everything that Phoebe turned out to be. Sometimes she wished her grandmother was her mother- she figured it'd be easier that way.

Her mother had her young and acts as if Phoebe owes her for giving her life, when she does blown into town she most often is just pretending to care long enough to ask for a 'small loan' then disappear for months at a time.

Phoebe has taken over the bistro, being it was where she spent most of her time growing up. She takes pride in it - although at times kicks herself for never leaving home- figuring maybe her mother was onto something this whole time.

She has a really sad mindset about who she is, I mean who wouldn't when pretty much both of your parents wanted nothing to do with you your whole life and made you feel unwanted.

HISTORY

Chanse was the third child to Maggie and Edward Ainsworth, a prominent London couple. Maggie was a social butterfly, at every event and tea that happened in their neighborhood. Her husband a businessman, successful in his own right. Everyone knew them, knew their picturesque family, and everything was perfect.

Behind closed doors, it was another story. Maggie was never in her right mind, a timid drinker and self-medicator. Edward detested his wife's habits, but never took it out on her. Instead, he took it out on the children. They learned to hide their bruises, and to stay out of his way if they could. Chanse, being the third born, found it easiest to stay out of his home whenever possible. He was social, like his mother, and managed to befriend just about anyone. It was no wonder he was never home, he just had too many friends; it was normal, nobody asked questions, and nobody knew what went on in the Ainsworth home.

As he got older, Chanse knew he was different than his siblings. His sisters would dress him up sometimes, and he loved it. When they invited him to tea and talked about the boys they fancied, he giggled and chattered with them, happy to fit in with the girls. Which wasn't to say he didn't enjoy time with his brothers, as well, because he did. He liked to be rough with them, and he loved the sports they'd play at the park with the other boys. But he was always just a little bit more sensitive the rest, prone to getting upset and running back to his older sister, who always comforted him just how he needed.

He fell in love as a teenager. A close friend, maybe even his best friend, who became his first in a lot of things. And as they got older, they made plans to live together, and Chanse couldn't have been more excited. Finally, out of his family home, away from the danger that lurked in the shadows that nobody knew about, that the Ainsley's pretended didn't exist. Unfortunately, things didn't work out the way they were supposed to.

It was the last holiday he was going to take with his family. He promised himself that. They went somewhere warm, somewhere sunny, and he did try to have a good time. But at the same time, he was planning. Making a list, as he often did when he was stressed out about things. What was he going to pack, what was he going to leave behind, how would he make his grand exit, etc. It wouldn't have been a big deal to his mother when she found it, except that he'd written a few little notes to himself about his love for another. Maggie recognized the name, 'Owen', and brought it to her husband's attention that their son was not the son they'd thought he was.

Edward was angry. Extremely angry. And he let Chanse know it. The police might have been called, but Edward wouldn't know. After hitting some sense into his son, he dragged him downtown, past the exotic nightclubs and to someplace darker. Someplace dingier. Where women took money in return for certain favors. And with Edward sitting outside of the dilapidated building he'd shoved his son into, Chanse was given copious amounts of tequila until he was in a twilight state that allowed the woman paid to give Edward's son the good time Edward had paid her for.

Chanse barely remembers that night. He doesn't remember most of the holiday afterwards, either. He knows his father hit him several more times, he knows his mother cried at his bedside when it seemed like he wouldn't get out of bed again. And a few weeks later, just before they were going to head home, the woman from the dilapidated building showed up demanding more money. She was pregnant, he was the father, and she was going to have that baby so they were going to have to keep paying her. Mortified, Chanse stayed in the warm, sunny place with his new baby momma. His family returned to London without him, and he fell into a deep depression.

Once the baby was born, the woman took whatever money Chanse had left and abandoned the both of them. Lost, Chanse took his baby to the United States, figuring at the very least he could figure something out in a new place, with a fresh start. He might have given up entirely, if it weren't for the child who now relied on him.

He struggled to make ends meet for a long time. But he started working an IT job at a local college, and quickly picked up on the ins and outs of the computers he worked on. He'd always been clever with technology. Eventually he started creating his own software at home, and ended up inventing a malware protection software that the college he worked at began to use. Once it had been proven successful, other colleges bought his work.

At the time, he had finally come to terms with his own sexuality and was seeing an older man, Pietro. Pietro saw an opportunity, and utilizing Chanse's intelligence and lack of entrepreneurial know-how, he founded a company that based its work on Chanse's original software. Chanse continued to engineer, believing himself to be an equal partner in the company, not realizing he was actually the equivalent of a kept housewife who just happened to do all of the work. He was young, and stupid, and he came to regret everything.

For eighteen years he worked for this company he believed he'd helped found.

Things at home weren't great, but Chanse had a twisted idea of what love was, anyway. So for eighteen years he let himself be treated badly, mostly because it kept his child in a good home and in good private schools. He did his best to keep the toxic behavior of his boyfriend hidden from his child, though. Any bruises he hid, and any arguing he would back down from, letting Pietro always have the last word. Chanse believed it was what he deserved. He'd let his life get this way, after all.

When Pietro passed away, eyes were on Chanse. Who fell from a third-story balcony in the middle of the day, anyway? Autopsy said Pietro was quite drunk, however, and so Chanse was dropped as a suspect. Just a terrible, tragic, accident.

Pietro had a will, and nothing was left to Chanse. Suddenly he lost everything. The company he believed himself to be part owner of? Gone. They took his work and they abandoned him, just as he'd been abandoned so many times in the past. Once again, he was struggling, the difference being he was older now, and he no longer had a small child to support. Still, he looked for work that would pay what he felt he deserved after working so hard for nearly two decades. And eventually he received an offer from Heywood University. They were losing their software engineering professor, they needed a new one, and his name was still on so much of the work his old company produced.

So he moved to East Haven, bringing his son, the one person in the world who meant absolutely everything to him, with him. For the time being, they are renting a house in Maple Hills, but he is looking for something that will be more permanent for them eventually.

PERSONALITY

Chanse is smart, but definitely foolish. He can memorize numbers, build a computer out of spare parts, and solve intricate math problems in his head, but he'll also hand all of that work over to the nearest person, believing them to have good intentions, and be baffled when they take his work and put their name on it instead.

He's a lover, not a fighter. All his life, he just wanted to be loved. And when he had love, he did everything he could to keep it. When it seemed like he'd lost it, he gave up immediately. Such as with Owen; knowing he'd slept with someone else, even if he didn't remember it and even if it was basically forced on him by his homophobic father, he felt immense guilt and knew he would just hurt Owen when he told him. And so he never did, he just stayed gone, terrified that Owen would hate him. And thus, he likely made Owen hate him just based on his own disappearance.

In addition to looking desperately for love wherever he could find it, he accepted a lot of things as love, even when he knew they weren't. He believed his parents loved him, even though they ignored or hurt him. And he believed Pietro loved him, though their relationship was bizarre to say the very least. He could write books on the things Pietro did to him, especially when he was a young man with a small child, but chances are he won't open up to anyone about all of that. Now that Pietro is gone, Chanse is realizing exactly how fucked up he is after twenty years of that relationship.

He's a good person, believe it or not. He wants what is best for others, though he seems snarky and sarcastic most of the time. His social skills are lacking, but if you can get through to him you'll have a loyal friend for a long time.

Were he to ever seek professional help, he would be diagnosed as bipolar and autistic. He'd probably be given ways to cope a little better than he has in his lifetime, and it could probably be very good for him. Unfortunately, he's never had anyone around to tell him to seek that sort of help, so he's never known how it might actually benefit him. All of the problems he faces he believes are his own fault, and thus his own burden to carry.

It was rough growing up in Lisette's household. Her mother had an addiction to alcohol and drugs and her father was never home, always trying to escape her mother's unpredictable temper. When she was 7 her father left for good and without a trace. Which left Lis alone to take care of herself and her mother.

With no other person around to take her mother's rage, Lis was the primary person who had to deal with her mother's outbursts. It lasted like this until she was 12 and taken away by the state to live with her aunt and uncle. It wasn't as if she didn't see her mother around town but the move provided her with a sense of stability that she never felt before.

But by then, the girl was wild. She had learned quickly how to manipulate others to get what she wanted and much like her mother, she had a temper. Lis always seemed to find herself in trouble but never faced any serious consequences. Even when she threw a huge house party and had the cops called on her, she was able to talk her way out of trouble.

At the age of 18, Lis moved away. She was convinced that she belonged in a big city such as LA, and that's exactly where she went.

She lived out of her car for a few months, taking whatever jobs that she could get. It wasn't until she met a great connection at a Hollywood mansion party(a party she crashed), that she was able to become a makeup artist working on various sets.

Was she professionally trained? No. Did she manage to pull it off as if she was? Yes.

After years of finding work, one day on a set she met her ex-husband, Max. Typically Lis was never one for commitment but she had fallen hard and fast for him, and after a few months of dating, they were already married. There was a considerable age gap, but at the time, they complemented each other.

Lisette never expected it to last forever, but she didn't expect to be cheated on. When she figured out that he was seeing another woman, Lis left the city without giving him a chance to explain. She mailed back her ring and within a week had her lawyers serve him divorce papers.

Being back in East Haven was healing in a way. She decided to start going to therapy, became a yoga instructor, and even began to patch up her relationship with her mother...but seeing her ex around definitely brings up sour feelings.

Reyhan Sahir was the third-born child into the Sahir family. She was supposed to be another boy, but when she came out a girl, the family treated her like a princess. A part of her always resented that, because she idolized her older brothers and felt like she was always kept separate from them.

She did well in school, but her true passion always laid with art. Despite that, she decided to be the most responsible of her siblings, and went to college on the pre-law track, before continuing on to law school at Brown.

She had just graduated, and was preparing to take the bar when her oldest brother, Selim, died, completely devastating her entire family. She took the bar and failed, which proved to be one loss too many and Reyhan decided to blow her entire life up.

She broke up with her serious boyfriend who was about to propose, and decided to pursue a career in tattooing instead. She's spent the last two years apprenticing at Everlasting Ink.

Adem is her only brother still left alive, but while one might assume that would only have brought them closer together, the opposite is true. Adem has become mean and angry, and even if Reyhan could figure out how to get through to him, a part of her is mad that she was always on the outside of their special bond.
