Teaching Men About Good Touch and Bad Touch: A Crucial Step Toward a Safer India
In a country grappling with over 32,000 reported rapes annually, it's clear that urgent action is needed to transform our understanding of respect, consent, and personal boundaries. Recent alarming cases in cities like Kolkata underscore the critical need for educating boys and men about what constitutes appropriate versus inappropriate physical contact.
Why Educating Men is Essential
Understanding the difference between good touch and bad touch is fundamental to fostering a culture of respect and safety. Education in this area not only helps prevent harm but also contributes to a broader cultural shift towards healthy relationships and personal boundaries.
What is Good Touch?
Hugs from Family: A warm embrace from loved ones that conveys affection and comfort.
Friendly High-Fives: Quick, cheerful gestures shared among friends.
Doctor's Examination: Professional touch with clear consent and purpose.
Holding Hands: A supportive gesture with someone you trust.
Encouraging Pat on the Back: A gesture of motivation and support.
What is Bad Touch?
Non-Consensual Contact: Touching private areas without permission.
Secretive Touch: Any touch that is requested to be kept secret.
Unwanted Kisses or Lingering Touches: Affection that is not reciprocated or desired.
Aggressive Grabbing: Forceful or intimidating physical contact.
The Impact of Education
Imagine a world where these critical conversations start early and are part of our everyday interactions. By educating men and boys about these concepts, we can significantly reduce the instances of abuse and violence. It's about changing mindsets and fostering a culture where everyone feels safe and respected.

To change the world, you must first change yourself. My "passion project" is myself. I am molding, and cultivating a life that I can be proud of on my death bed. We all have the power to change our situations. More importantly, we have the power to help those who can't help themselves. I have been given a platform in which I can do just that. As an educator, it is my job to motivate students to their highest potential. To get them to question everything that doesn't sound right. We educators have the most important job in the world! We work for less than peanuts, spend more time with other people's children, and still manage to find a way to be involved in our own kids' lives. If that doesn't make someone a superhero, then what does? I choose to use my platform to strive for change in the world. As long as I can change the life of one student a year, they will spread the message. Little by little, we can change the negative news to become more positive. People think it is a bipartisan problem. Wrong! It is an American problem. We are allowing people who don't know the everyday struggle of the common person to make our laws, set our wages, and control our schools. Education can change that I believe. Educators, we have to spark the flames of curiosity in our youth. We must make them want to seek out the truth for themselves. We must. We must. We must. #ProudEducator #EducateForChange #UseYourPlatform #ItStartsFromWithin #BeTheChangeYouWishToSee

This lil guy was given to me last Sunday after our social justice panel on indigenous rights in Norman, OK. It was given after a good one on one discussion about what the boarding school era was really about and the impact that it had on our communities, which then turned into a conversation about power dynamics and structural oppression. He's been hanging around my computer serving as a reminder that while many people consider themselves "woke", we still have a long way to go. #socialeducation #powerdynamics #talkitout #educateforchange #nativerights #indigenousrights #woke #speakup #forchange
