L’Eggo My Eggo? L’Eggo YOUR Eggo! Kellogg Flips an Iconic Tagline

Eggo is grateful for the halo effect from its product placement boost in Netflix’s Stranger Things, with the brand being the preferred meal of Millie Bobby Brown’s character Eleven in seasons one and two. Presumably her Eggo-centric diet will continue in season three, which is now in production, even if the Halloween costume won’t remain as popular come October.

Not waiting around for another Netflix nudge in sales, however, the Kellogg-owned brand has bumped up its waffles with the Thick & Fluffy line, which it’s promoting with a new campaign that flips its iconic marketing on its head.

In its new U.S. ad campaign, Eggos argues that its new waffles line is “too thick and fluffy—not to share” as (for example) a man takes a bite of his Eggos waffle and is so excited that he feeds a piece to his still-sleeping partner.

Eggos is casting the new campaign as a way of reversing its half-century-old tagline—one of the most iconic taglines in advertising history—in “L’Eggo My Eggo!”

Its traditional approach was to describe the frozen-waffle brand as so good that no one eating an Eggo would want to share it with anyone else. Now, as befits the sharing economy era, they’re deemed too good not to share.

“After 50 years of keeping the deliciousness to yourself, America is being encouraged to share their precious and scrumptious waffles with the latest Eggo campaign.” The Belgium-style thick waffles, Eggos said, is the perfect messenger for the shift. “They are simply too good not to share— L’Eggo YOUR Eggo.”

Kellogg has added a new Double Chocolatey flavor to the Thick & Fluffy line as well as enhanced other flavors including Original, Cinnamon Brown Sugar and Blueberry. They’re sure to be classics—but as classic as the iconic tagline which made the brand’s fame?

“The new, fun flavor upgrades to our beloved Eggo Thick & Fluffy Waffles will provide the ultimate deliciously indulgent experience for waffle lovers nationwide. They are the fluffiest waffles that are just too good not to share and we’re excited for you to see TV and digital advertising that demonstrates just how irresistible the new and improved waffle flavors are,” said Dick Podiak, Kellogg’s Vice President, Marketing and Innovation of Frozen Foods.

As part of its U.S.-wide marketing push this summer, Kellogg is bringing an Eggo Waffle Bar to Walmart locations in the Midwest.
