Sometimes I feel like something that holds e back from letting myself be less feminine and more visibly ambiguously gendered is that I'm just so good at being a woman. BillFord and ShadowVanilla scratch an itch in my brain because they're both dealing with the question of... what if you felt like you finally found your equal and felt a deep connection with them after years of isolation. Shadow Milk Cookie's genuine admiration and envy towards Pure Vanilla Cookie for being a bigger person and choosing to do the right thing despite facing the same problem he did (the responsibilities of and expectations on a ruler, and figuring out what to do when faced with the Truth). Pure Vanilla Cookie feeling repulsion and pity towards Shadow Milk Cookie for failing his people and not seeing his duty as a promise and a mark of mutual trust between his friends and citizens. I think the problem with the Beast Cookies is that they were baked by the Witches with the intent of embodying virtues/ideals .. but putting someone fallible under the pressure of embodying an ideal and leading society is bound to get messy.

In that position, they'd deal with complex and messy situations and fall short of the ideal. Someone's always bound to get the short end of the stick no matter what they do. and since it's the one thing they're made for (and explicitly know their purpose), it'd probably eat at them little by little - because what is expected of them seems impossible! Until all of their regrets add up (and probably, their public record becomes worse) and they just give up.

I like to think that That is one of the bigger reasons why the Beast Cookies became perversions of their original virtues lol. Maybe power and arrogance were also a reason but I also feel that these are much more interesting themes to explore, especially with the Ancient Cookies as well
