Yeah - agreement, casual
Yyyyeah - So, here's the thing:
Yeahhhh - you're right and that sucks
Yep - agreement, brief, mild
Yyyyep - I know. Isn't it bullshit?
Yes - agreement, direct
Yyyyes - I wasn't sure, but on reflection I believe so
Yesss - agreement, hooray!
Mhmm - agreement, mild
Mmmmhmm - I fucking told you so but go on

This PROBABLY won't come up but like
What do you do when a king (or equivalent) offers you a boon
Like
They're all "anything in my power is yours" and it's like. Really? I don't think you really mean that
They're not gonna like, abdicate the throne or whatever. They're not even gonna dance for your amusement while you sit on their throne even for half an hour. They're not gonna make major policy changes for you
That's TOTALLY within their power but definitely not on offer
Which means there's some SECRET rule about what you can ask as your boon
And I HATE secret rules
Is it like, an indirect way to say "do you want a knighthood, my daughter's hand in marriage, or a pile of cash?"
Like sure if you're Gandalf and you happen to have previously borrowed the World's Best Horse from this particular king then it's easy you can just be like "World's Best Horse please"
When they were leaving Lothlorien everyone got a very nice and thoughtful gift except Gimli who got a very awkward and politically charged situation instead
Idk I feel like if a king ever offers me a boon I'll be all "uhhh what have you got"

Thing from a dream I just had: a tumblr user with a bi pride flag colored avatar posted "I am ok with Le Guin just bag catching teens"
I assume, had the dream continued, that deceased author Ursula K Le Guin kidnapping teenagers with a bag would have been the latest drama going around tumblr and that this would have been how I heard about it

Why is it so fucking difficult to refill prescriptions that I'm going to be taking indefinitely
"oh we gotta check with your doctor" ok but the doctor would base their answer on checking with ME like "hey you still got migraines? Still a transsexual? Ok cool here ya go"
There are too many middlemen in this system

I've never had fruitcake
People talk about it like it's this awful unpleasant thing
And I'm just like. How
It's fruit baked into a loaf, isn't it?
How can that be awful???
Is the common opinion just wrong (likely), are they often cooked badly (likely), or is there some other weirder explanation??

It's pretty funny to read about people who've died and come back wrong and what's wrong is all chronic illnesses that I specifically have

Wife, whose head has been buzzed for the past while: I think I'm going to grow my hair out
Me, who has been married to her for 6 years and seen the longhair-sideshave-buzzcut-growout cycle several times: ah yes right on schedule

Idk I think it is bad to frame beauty as frivolous and unimportant
Even people who broadly agree with stuff like "art is important" will still casually act like beauty should be sidelined in favor of efficiency sometimes
Like. I saw a post about light pollution asserting that energy efficiency is a more important factor than seeing the night sky
But like. Which is more disturbing on a societal level? "we waste X% of our annual energy budget sending light into the sky" or "most of the population of earth has never seen the night sky"?
Like yeah save energy that's good but lighting isn't even that energy intensive, there are bigger savings to be had elsewhere, and the problem of light pollution would not be solved by magical free-energy lights
(it would likely get worse)
Anyway this post isn't only about light pollution it's about everything

The fucked up thing with audiobooks ultimately is just that I can't put all of them in one place, each is forever bound to the place I bought it from
It doesn't matter where I get a physical book, they all go on the shelf together
I prefer that

I love imagining the Unusual Assistance in Book of Hours from the other side
You're a surrealist painter and you're passing through this tiny coastal village when this weird old librarian offers you good money to come to her fucking castle and drink hundred year old whiskey and help her chase birds out of a tower
she gives you a silver-plated globe and insists that it Will Help and the fucked up thing is it does
Anyway this artist is having the best day of her entire trip and she can't wait to tell her friends all about it

Did not realize that the whole "men think about the Roman empire" thing was not intended as an insult to those men until just now
Like
Who thinks about the Roman empire? Fuck those guys (the Romans)

What I find interesting is that, while much discussion has stated that to be up for something and to be down for something mean the same thing, they don't quite.
If I say I'm up for it that's more a statement about my capacity to do it and if I'm down for it it's more about my interest in doing it
You can examine it better in the negative--if I'm not up for it then I'm probably just too tired or something, but if I'm not down for it I'd really rather not do it at all
Like they both mean "I'll do it" but with very subtle difference

Ok but like clothing does have a gender
It's culturally defined but that doesn't make it not a thing
Clothing is like. The primary method by which people can express their gender
Like sure if we lived in Bee World and all clothing was identical beekeeping PPE because there's a practical reason to wear clothing of a particular design To Keep Bees Out then clothing wouldn't be a gender expression thing, but in the world I live in it is
When people are gender nonconforming in their clothing choices that's saying something! It's not saying nothing. It's not just Keeping The Bees Out.
I do not want the ability to express my gender taken away from me, actually
